In the last 7 years I took every opportunity that offered work with children. I worked as an au pair, nanny, tutor, student ambassador, and mentor. In my colourful CV of various job experiences, these were the ones that gave me joy and sense of purpose. My passion for learning and spreading the knowledge were the only two things constant in my life. As a graduate of Anthropology, I have studied both science and humanities qualifying me to be tutor in both fields. My experience ranges from preparing students for 11+ exams, to holding workshops for first year university students. I am particularity proud of a student who moved to UK just in time to start college and had struggled with the English language. I worked with her in her preparations for GCSE's in History by creating a study plan suitable to her needs and she managed to make remarkable progress in a short period of time. Most recently I worked with a dyslexic student preparing for 11+ exams as an additional support in her studies. She is now having interviews in several high achieving secondary schools. As a strong believer in the individuality of all of us, I like to prepare all of my lessons in order to accommodate learning styles best suitable for my students. This is why I do not have a specific teaching style- I prefer flexibility. In my free time, I practice yoga and spend time exploring London. I particularly enjoy getting lost in the city and finding hidden gems. I love reading and writing poetry, preferably in nature. I enjoy finding alternative ways of learning and am a keen user of apps such as Duolingo. I try to dedicate some hours every week doing courses on the Future Learn platform.

I am a highly experienced tutor currently studying a Masters in Applied Clinical Psychology at the University of Exeter. I studied the International Baccalaureate myself but am experienced in tutoring the IB, A-Levels and GCSE. Due to having completed exams fairly recently myself and having tutored ever since I am still highly connected with the exam boards and the technique required to get great grades! It also means I understand the stress of this period of your life and so will work really holistically with you to make sure you not only get through this with the grades you want but also feeling you have succeed without too much pain! As I said, I have been tutoring since I finished my own exams meaning I have almost 4 years experience now. Through this time I have completed over 800 hours of lessons with more than 30 different students. This means I have seen almost everything and I know that no question is too small. I really appreciate the value of tutoring and have seen so many students gain in confidence through working with me and many have attributed great improvements in grades to our work. If you would like any evidence of previous student testimonials please feel free to ask! Currently I work in the following subject areas: GCSE Biology Chemistry English (Language and Literature) RS A-Level Psychology Biology IB Psychology For me tutoring is a two way street and I very much believe in us working together to get you where you need to be. I start every lesson with a brief review; how was your week in terms on the subject and what would you like out of today’s lesson? Then at the end of the lesson we review this again and this really helps you to keep track of your own learning. If you want homework for between sessions I am also happy to make suggestions based on areas I feel you need to work on. However, I know these years can be very stressful and so I will only add work if you want it. Overall, I am extremely flexible and can make whatever works for you work for me too!

Benefits of studying Biology at A-Level

A Level Biology Tutor 2

Biology involves a huge combination of scientific methods, problem solving and the acquisition of practical skill sets. A-Level Biology is a great subject to take if you intend to specialize in medicine, the environment or jobs that involve working with animals.

Biologists are masterminds of the natural world and all of its living creatures. Therefore, biologists are able to use their gained  knowledge and skill sets to do things like research cures for diseases, discover natural resources, improve public health, animal care and conservation and determine the exact effects that issues like pollution have on the world. This field also allows you to enhance your planning and research skills, and increase general knowledge on other subjects like history, culture, philosophy and even human behaviour.

We've had 10,000 lessons rated 5 stars by our students

Did you know? One of the main reasons Biology is a highly sought after degree is the ability for students to develop synoptic essay writing skills, which is hugely lacking in many major universities.

Tutoring FAQs

A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. Tutor House is designed to introduce excellent tutors to customers putting tutors in touch with students and learners. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Tutor House, outside the online platform, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions. In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above. For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

Booking and paying for private tuition has never been easier! As a customer, you’ll need to add your credit or debt card details to your profile after you sign in. You can pay the tutor directly and securely through the Tutor House website. However, if you do pay outside of the Tutor House site, you will not be protected by our 48 hour Cancelation Policy, nor our Disputes or Refunds Policy, we also do not guarantee that you’ll be protected from fraud. You will then receive a confirmation email notifying you of the hours completed with the tutor. The email will also confirm the date and time that the lesson(s) took place. Payment will be automatically processed by Tutor House’s Payment Service Provider (PSP). We do not charge you a joining fee or an administration fee, instead we allow you to interact with your chosen tutor directly. You pay the tutor online using a debit or credit card, with your booking being secure and private. Our tutors get paid on the same day of the lesson, so please make sure that you’ve confirmed the lesson before your tutor arrives. Of course! We use Stripe as our third party payment platform. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

In the last 7 years I took every opportunity that offered work with children. I worked as an au pair, nanny, tutor, student ambassador, and mentor.
