I have 6 years of full-time teaching experience at comprehensive secondary schools in London, with a proven track record of raising the attainment of students across the age and ability range. This means the lowest attaining year 7s right up to the highest attaining year 13s. I began privately tutoring in my 3rd year as a full-time teacher and quickly noticed that I could be even more effective tutoring individuals by adopting a bespoke approach. Private tutoring has enabled me to become familiar with all the major examination boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJEC. I have also applied to become an examiner for Edexcel which gives me an insiders knowledge of their requirements. Demand for my services has also extended to the 11+, where I have experience of successfully preparing students for the entrance test at schools of the calibre of Wilsons, Wallington Grammar and Whitgift in the county of Surrey. In addition to 1-to-1 tuition, I have undertaken group tutorials since April 2014 with the largest provider of small group tuition in the UK. I have become one of their go-to tutors as a result of my outstanding reviews. Increasing demand for my services led to my decision to increase my tutoring hours in 2017. My Approach to Private Tuition: Maths is a confidence subject, so an early priority of mine is to increase a student’s confidence in the subject. This is partly a function of having strong relationships with students. Diagnostic assessment is also an integral part of my approach as many students have gaps in their learning which prevent them from going past a particular point. Lessons that I teach also seek to engage students in a way that isn’t always possible in a classroom. For instance, having greater scope for discussion of what is being taught. Engaging resources that I have amassed over the last 6 years from various schools that I have taught at in addition to various conferences and seminars result in my students enjoying the journey as well as the end result.

Students will need to develop critical and analytical thinking as well as strong communication skills both in essay writing and debate format. Students will need to show the ability to research, assimilate facts, asses data and interpret information in order to come to evidence-based conclusions and build a strong argument. There will be opportunities for group work where students must show teamwork and leadership skills, as well as intense independent study, showcasing a students ability to use their initiative, work to deadlines and be self-dependant. Through the A-level Government and Politics course, students will find and nurture their voice, empowering them to comment on Political issues and developing the skills to become highly successful students and employees.

    Tutoring FAQs

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

    A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

    A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

    A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

    A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons.
