I am a qualified teacher with a degree in teaching Mathematics and a PGCE in Maths. I have been teaching Maths for more than 24 years all levels of Maths (all Key stages, GCSE, A level). I have taught a great number of students over these years and published two books in Maths. I teach students by showing them how to do maths in the most efficient and clear way that will deal with problems and use different resources or methods to enable them to understand the concepts very well, some of these methods or techniques, you won’t usually find in the books. I have had particular success in helping students to achieve top grades at GCSE, A level and get into their school of choice. I also have lots of experience and success in teaching students who have had trouble with Maths.

I am a highly experienced tutor of Physics and Mathematics. I tutor students between the ages of 10 and 18, preparing them for their entrance exams, and for their GCSE and A level exams. I also assist students with their UCAS applications and university interviews and have recent experience of teaching mid-career students for exams such as GAMSAT. My aim is to help my students to reach their full academic potential and get the grades they deserve. I believe in making sure that the underlying fundamental concepts are fully understood as this provides a solid foundation. There is nothing more rewarding than a student saying "oh yes, now I get it". My tutoring style is to seek to identify the key areas where support is required and then patiently and sympathetically to help and encourage my tutees to master these areas. I have a post-graduate teaching degree and have taught in a number of Schools, Colleges and Universities. I tutor individuals and also groups in schools, sixth form Colleges and Russell group universities. I was a lecturer at Imperial College for 26 years where I was an admissions tutor, senior tutor and postgraduate tutor and became deputy director of the Graduate school. I won the Rectors award for excellence in teaching at Imperial College twice. I have recent experience of tutoring and one to one teaching and also of tutoring in four central London schools, namely the City and Islington college, the Harris academy St Johns Wood, St Saviours and St Olave’s school and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school, Islington. In my spare time I like to swim, exercise in the gym and kayak. I also love to travel and have lived in Singapore, Sydney and Dallas. I support QPR more in hope than in expectation !

Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks.

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.
