The search for a tutor like Miss Honey

Tutors

We experience hundreds of requests through the Tutor House site every day, ranging across all subjects and levels. However once in a while we receive a request that’s a little more bespoke and ‘out there’. Naturally we’re happy to help our customers find the right professional for them, no matter how bizarre their requirements seem to be!

It’s been a while since we’ve had such a request, but we’re sure there’s a tutor out there who can help this family find their very own Miss Honey.

Here’s a screenshot of their email:

And the request in full:

Hi Tutor House

We’re after a maths tutor for our 8 year old, who is extremely timid and struggles with her teachers at school to the detriment of her education.

XXXXX is Matilda obsessed, she’s read the book, watched the film like 50 times and been to the theatre production 3 times. The other day XXXXX commented on how much she’d love to have Miss Honey as a teacher. This sparked an idea and the reason behind why we’re emailing you. How likely do you think it is that we’ll be able to find a Miss Honey via your site for our daughter?

We’d ideally like a tutor an hour a week to teach XXXXX whilst in character as the lovely Miss Honey, costume and all. We think it’s important that she has Miss Honey’s gentle demeanour, can act her well and stay in character throughout the tuition. Obviously a likeness to Embeth Davidtz is important and we’re happy to buy a costume, like her pink dress and round glasses. If the tutor can copy her hairstyle as well that would be great, the soft shoulder length style which flicks out at the end.

We’d like the tutor to have 3 years experience in teaching or tutoring maths, and obviously must have seen Matilda or read the book. We’d also like to have a trial session to see how well the tutor can get in character. Those are our only requirements! We’d be willing to pay £60 an hour for the right person, which I believe is over the normal amount?

When we say our daughter is timid, we mean timid, she can barely look strangers in the eye, it’s something we’re really working on and hopefully having her very own Miss Honey as a teacher will help her become more confident, and get her maths up to scratch.

We look forward to hearing from you!
