I have been tutoring for over 15 years and I have lots of experience in teaching English at all levels. I tutor face- to- face and also online and have experience in teaching English as a foreign language, both online with students in China and in groups to European students in a summer school. I have a wealth of great resources that can help students understand the subject they are studying much better and lots of in depth knowledge of my subject as I have a Master's Degree in English. I can also prepare students for private school entry and 11 plus and I have an excellent record in helping students gain entry into their desired school. I have 8 years of experience in a college setting, teaching GCSE and A level English. I have also taught privately at undergraduate level, helping with research for dissertations, for example. I am also an examiner so can help students reach their potential in their exams. This experience means that I can help students to avoid the common pitfalls that can be encountered in exams; such as structuring their answers and answering in the time allowed.

I am a qualified teacher and a conscientious freelance tutor, specialising in preparing students for 11+ exams in Maths, English,Verbal Reasoning and non Verbal Reasoning. I have a wide experience in working with an array of school pupils of all ages in applications to selective grammar schools. I have been a tutor for 10 years and offer personalised and rewarding lessons. My approach is to build a strong professional relationships with my tutees and swiftly establish what pupils need help with, this is achieved in ensuring students are comfortable to question what they don't understand and so fourth. I strongly believe in a systematic approach of using a personalised plan I create from initial assessments. This is used alongside material's from books to gain a depth of understanding and lots of past papers to get students into the swing of time pressures and methods. I go through past exam papers with my tutees to help with examination technique. For vocabulary learning I feel that a little, aloud and often approach is necessary every evening. I set vocabulary learning and tests every week. The most important aspect of lessons I think is ensuring learning is engaging and this derives from the relationship with the Tutor and tutee. After achieving my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Royal Holloway University of London, I then went on to do a Masters in Education. I taught for a couple of years where I had qualified. I now work for one of the Global Big 4 Accounting firms as a Business Consultant recently becoming a Chartered Institute of Management Consultants qualified. I am therefore confident that I have a unique skill set whereby I can ensure I we can gain your child admission into the school of your choosing.

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly.
