I am a final year medical student who will be graduating in July as a doctor from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. I have been teaching maths, science and latin for more than five years now and have learnt greatly from teaching students of different abilities and ages. Seeing my students improve and reach their full potential has encouraged me to continue teaching despite the heavy workload at university and I thoroughly enjoy the experience. I am a caring, hardworking and enthusiastic individual who always tries to give his best. My patience and good organizational skills are one of my greatest assets and allow me teach freely. Furthermore, I am both friendly and understanding and this helps me to work effectively with students of any age. I find teaching very rewarding and this drives me to continually improve my teaching standards.

Having worked as a teaching assistant at a school in South Wales, with pupils aged 3-18, I gained a wealth of experience in one to one, group and class teaching in a range of topics. I often worked with those pupils who might be struggling with a particular topic and also helped able and talented children excel. I have developed my teaching skills further as the coordinator of a programme aimed at providing Mental Health Workshops in London schools. I have a strong Academic background personally, with A*AA at A Level Chemistry, Biology and Physics and English Literature at AS Level and excellent GCSEs. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to ask, I am happy to tutor through most of London.

Hi, I'm Jack. I love music and scuba diving and have always had a keen interest in science. I started tutoring during my second year of university where I was part of the University of Bath's 'Chemistry Crew', a group of older students that first years could come to for help with any work they were struggling with. Since completing university I have helped various family friend's children study for their A-levels and GCSE's, giving them some extra guidance before they sat their exams. I've mainly studied Chemistry but have always had a keen interest in Biology as well, and took many biology based modules during my degree. With my experience studying science at GCSE, A-level and university i'm confident I can help your child achieve their best results for their upcoming exams.

GCSE and IGCSE Chemistry Course Breakdown

GCSE Chemistry covers a range of diverse material, and the specifications differ slightly depending on the exam board. However, the course content tends to focus on similar areas, and much of the topics covered are the same.

At its core, GCSE Chemistry is the study of chemical behaviour, the properties and composition of matter, the Earth and its atmosphere. GCSE Chemistry teaches students about a wide range of subtopics within these categories, including the study of atoms, elements and compounds, the periodic table, bonding, structure and the properties of matter, chemical changes, as well as the rate and extent of chemical change.

The course is generally linear and is taught across two years, with examinations taking place at the end of the second year. In the first year of the course, the course is generally focused around three main topics: physical chemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. In the second year of the course, the level of knowledge becomes more complex, with topics taught including thermodynamics, rate equations, and protein synthesis.

Students will generally be assessed via a mixture of written and multiple-choice exams, both of which will test their ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the complex topics that they have been taught.

Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world - Louis Pasteur

Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.
