I am a qualified Science (Biology) teacher with a strong academic background in Biomedical Science. An enthusiastic, highly motivated and reliable with an outgoing personality. A friendly and understanding person who is able to establish good working relations with students. I have the UK Qualified Teacher Status and experience in working in mainstream and private secondary and primary schools in London. I plan, prepare and deliver lessons to cover the Curriculum and teach a topic using a wide range of learning resources and education strategies. I have lived in London for a little over 20 years and successfully combined my studies with working and family commitments. Throughout my career in the UK, I have worked as a Public services Interpreter for 15 years. I am also a professional translator/proofreader (English-Russian, Russian-English language pairs), I did my Masters degree in Translation and Linguistics at Imperial college London. My approach to teaching involves meeting students’ individual needs. I provide individualised support to learners to achieve their goals. In addition to my educational background, experience, and personal qualities, I am a person with an optimistic attitude who is able to create a positive working environment, motivate and encourage students to get a positive outcome.
As a major academic scholar at Magdalen College School, Oxford, I studied maths and sciences at A-level, achieving grades of A* (Maths) AAA (Further Maths, Physics, Music). Although my greatest academic strengths are maths and physics, my personal interest led me to study Music at the University of Leeds, where I graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree. I tailored my degree to included a mix of musicology, performance, pedagogical techniques, and a strong side component of philosophy. I'm patient and friendly, and am skilled at quickly developing a rapport with children and teenagers. I currently work as an instrumental tutor and freelance musician. I have been giving one-on-one guitar lessons since 2016. I teach both children and adults from beginners to advanced players. As well as this I have studied teaching techniques as part of my degree. I have also had experience in a language school working with teenage students visiting the UK to improve their English. This role required me to oversee groups of 10-20 students, plan their activities daily, develop a friendly yet authoritative rapport with them (which required excellent communication given their level of English). With a breadth of interests and skills that cross over sciences, arts and humanities, I am accustomed to approaching a range of problems using different conventions and styles of thinking. I aim to understand a student's own way of thinking and learning and use this to develop their weaker areas in ways to which they are most receptive. In doing so, I aim to develop their confidence in their own ability to tackle problems and produce work of a high standard in areas they might not initially feel so comfortable in.
I graduated from Oxford University with a 2.1 in English, and I am now based in London studying law. I have found that organisation and enthusiasm are both key to unlocking academic success, and I take a personalised approach to tutoring to ensure my students find their lessons engaging as well as rewarding. I have tutored English through private tutoring agencies in London for the past year, largely working towards sitting school entrance exams. For the past four years I have also worked as an English teacher at an Oxford-based summer school where I am responsible for planning and executing English language lessons for foreign students. I believe that lessons should be tailored for each tutee, and a personal connection between tutor and pupil is crucial for success as I can understand their concerns and develop an action plan to tackle them. I believe setting goals and celebrating milestones helps achieve excellent results. I find it greatly fulfilling to see my students grow in confidence and ability as a result of their lessons, and it is very rewarding to teach them invaluable skills which will help them beyond the classroom.
