I'm a Qualified Primary Teacher with experience in teaching in different year groups. Being a teacher has made me realise the immense gap that exists between different children in one class and the need for children to have one-to-one attention from a teacher, to make great progress. Therefore I decided to focus on tutoring so I can ensure I can make a great impact on an individual's life. I still remember my teachers and how they contributed to my thirst for knowledge, which led me to complete my Bachelor's degree in Law and a Master's degree in Public International Law. My interest in teaching was first sparked when I volunteered at the Shire Foundation in London, a charitable organisation, focused on improving educational standards for deprived communities. At the Foundation, I taught English to adults and tutored young children on a one-to-one basis within the subjects of English and Maths. As a result of this experience, I decided to do the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA). This was an intensive course that provided me with the essential teaching pedagogical knowledge and it was a hands-on teaching experience which strengthened my classroom confidence. I have also learned the value of thorough lesson planning which has proven essential in my teaching. Upon completion, I became a qualified teacher of English as a second language (ESL) and also gained the CFE qualification: Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. I carried on to study for my PGCE and completed this successfully as I began my teaching into mainstream schools. This is where I found the need for children to get attention and specialised focus from their teachers, which teachers cannot provide in classes with 30 children. I take great pride in creating original tasks that engage and motivate students to actively participate in lessons. 100% active participation is something that I expect from all my students, all the time. In addition to this, I set high expectations for students, because research has shown, high expectations are a driver of high academic achievement. I enjoy travelling, learning about different cultures and trying out new experiences. Exercising is another hobby of mine and I think it is important to take care of the body as well as the mind.
After spending ten years happily immersed in Mathematics teaching and private tuition back in Surrey, my wife and I chose to emigrate to South-West France back in 2004 to start a whole new life. It has been the most extraordinary adventure, and we are now fully integrated into French life and have become (almost) fluent French speakers. But I have started to miss the algebraic and numeric world - the time is now right to put on my still-fitting teacher's hat, and help students once again to achieve the best grades that they can, in the subject which has always been close to my heart. My most relevant experience as far as Mathematics tutoring and Classroom teaching is concerned is as follows: Sep. 2003 - Feb. 2004 Beaminster Secondary School, Beaminster, Dorset Part-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Sep. 2002 - Aug. 2003 Sherborne School for Girls, Sherborne, Dorset Full-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for Key Stage 3 SATs, GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Oct. 2000 - Sep. 2002 Holyrood Community School, Chard, Somerset Full-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for Key Stage 3 SATs, GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Oct. 1994 - Aug. 2000 Self-Employed (Steve Trinder Tutoring) Full-time home tuition to students of SATs, Common Entrance, GCSE and A-Level Mathematics (Pure, Mechanics and Statistics). Includes assistance with GCSE coursework, A-Level Statistics projects and mature students. Sep. 1998 - Aug. 2000 Parkside Preparatory School, Cobham, Surrey Part-Time Mathematics Teacher. Common Entrance Examinations and Scholarships. Jan. 1997 - Aug. 1998 Denmead Preparatory School, Hampton, Middlesex Head of Mathematics. Full-time Mathematics Teacher. Common Entrance Examinations and Scholarships. Sep. 1994 - Dec. 1996 Burpham Primary School, Burpham, Guildford Mathematics Co-ordinator. Mathematics Teacher to Year 6. Since our emigration to France in 2004, my wife and I have managed our own property management business, “Le Cloup Assistance Location.” We specialise in the marketing and management of rental properties and second homes, with swimming pool maintenance services. I also spent seven years (2007-2014) working for an Estate Agent here in France, as a Commercial Agent. This involved providing internet-based property marketing, selling and valuing properties, and dealing (in French) with French legal acts of sale.
Hi, I'm Jack. I love music and scuba diving and have always had a keen interest in science. I started tutoring during my second year of university where I was part of the University of Bath's 'Chemistry Crew', a group of older students that first years could come to for help with any work they were struggling with. Since completing university I have helped various family friend's children study for their A-levels and GCSE's, giving them some extra guidance before they sat their exams. I've mainly studied Chemistry but have always had a keen interest in Biology as well, and took many biology based modules during my degree. With my experience studying science at GCSE, A-level and university i'm confident I can help your child achieve their best results for their upcoming exams.
