I am a qualified teacher, with several years of classroom experience. I obtained my teaching qualification from the University of Cambridge in 2004, after receiving a BA in Psychology from the University of Durham in 2002. For the past 5 years, I have taught in an international school in Panama, which uses Cambridge International Exam board. I have taught and tutored for English (as a first language and as a second language at IGCSE and A Level), English Literature (at IGCSE and A Level) and Biology (at IGCSE). Before this, I worked as a UK primary school teacher in the Cambridge area. When tutoring online, I like to agree in advance on the objective for each session and send reading or interactive material beforehand. This makes the actual session as interactive and productive as possible. I also like to set activities at the end of the session, which I can then give detailed and personalised feedback on, in adherence with exam board guidelines (where appropriate). Outside of actual tutoring sessions, I like to be available for my students, so that they can contact me with any questions whenever necessary. I am looking forward to tutoring online, helping students get the grades that truly reflect their potential and their hard work.
Hi! I'm currently a final year student at King's College London, studying Biomedical Sciences. I have a strong passion for neuroscience and pharmacology and hope to pursue a career in the science industry. I am enthusiastic and enjoy working with children, therefore have a strong desire to teach. I am currently volunteering at a homework club for refugees, in which I am helping a year 7 student with her weekly homework and her english. I take an open-minded and holistic approach in tutoring, with an aim to tailor teaching methods based on each student and their strong suits. I am hardworking and hope to help any student struggling with their work, as well as motivate their own interests. My interests outside of academia include art, dance, squash as well as being a big movie fanatic.
My first experience teaching was as an assistant language teacher on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. I taught for three years in a junior high school and primary schools in Tottori Prefecture and really loved it. I learned a lot about teaching and facilitating language development. Living in Japan was an absolutely amazing cultural experience! When I returned to the UK I taught English privately to Japanese families living in London (children and adults) for a period of about two years. This involved one-to-one work and more focus on the clients' individual targets and ambitions. Some students were studying for daily life, others for school and others for business. Most recently I completed a Primary PGCE through LSBU. Over the course I taught the whole primary curriculum to classes in four different primary schools in London, including a special school. This was a great opportunity to teach new subjects with the guidance of senior school teachers and tutors from university. It is a privilege to work with children and to help them make progress in their learning. I can teach primary students the main curriculum subjects and help prepare them for SATs and 11+/common entrance examinations. I can teach English up to GCSE level. I will adapt my teaching style depending on students' needs, likes and learning styles, tailoring exercises so that they are pitched at the right level. For me, it's really important that learning is enjoyable and interesting. Education has made my life richer and has given me a lot of opportunities. I am still learning myself, regularly taking short courses like creative writing, photography and film making. I love doing my own research and my own projects and will always encourage my students to be independent learners.
