I am a qualified and current secondary school Maths and Computer Science teacher with 5+ years experience in the classroom and as a private tutor. I have a degree in Computer Science from Imperial College and industry experience with Deloitte and Goldman Sachs. My school experience includes head of department, head of faculty and Assistant Headteacher. My mission is to help my students achieve their personal best - regardless of ability. My approach is simple: build and deliver lessons around the students need with a focus on exam success and targets they want to achieve. Exam boards wise, I have experience with GCSE Maths (Edexcel) and GCSE Computer Science (OCR). However I can confidently teach for other boards and iGCSE if requested. As I am based near Horsham in West Sussex, I understand that many of my lessons with clients will be online and hence my rate reflects this.
I am an Oxford and KCL graduate with three years tutoring experience. I pride myself in being really approachable and friendly, while also motivating my students to achieve as much as possible through the time we spend together. I get a huge amount of satisfaction watching a student improve and develop what we've learnt together into independent confidence. Working with my past tutees, we have managed to get them into their number one school of choice, achieve top marks in their end of year school tests, and in the most recent set of public examinations, exceed early expectations with a 9 in IGCSE English Literature. A little bit about me: for my secondary schooling I went to Dulwich College, where I received 10A*s at GCSE and then 3 A*s at A Level. I went on to study English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford and achieved a First Class BA degree, before reading for a MA in Film Studies at King's College London. I was awarded a Distinction and the Best Postgraduate Dissertation Prize. Alongside my tutoring work I am a screenwriter and film director. My films have screened and won awards at film festivals, including London and the Berlinale, as well as being broadcast on the BBC. My film work has been an incredibly useful background to bring to my tutoring. Many of the skills I teach are essential to the work I do in film; being able to demonstrate the exciting real life application of analytical skills, linguistic dexterity and focus to a disinterested or struggling student has been an excellent source of motivation and inspiration in my work.
I am a Qualified Science Teacher. I graduated through the very selective TeachFirst programme. I taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE and Biology to A Level students under the new specification. Ive taught in state schools in Luton, Birmingham and East London to students with varied abilities, different learning styles and learning difficulties. Therefore I had to learn to adapt my teaching methods to suit the diverse range of abilities in classes of up to 32 students. I am a confident and an excellent public speaker. I am resilient, ambitious, extremely focused and motivated. I come from a very academic background and love to learn; through conversation, blogging, YouTube debates and reading (currently making my way through the last of the Game Of Thrones series). I love to help children unlock their potential and motivate them to motivate themselves, ultimately achieving their best in the process. I do this through fun, engaging yet challenging activities. The brain needs practice, repetition and challenge, therefore I like to stretch my students and encourage them to develop their own independence through autonomous learning. I believe structured learning and repetition are key to academic success. I have been a teacher for 4 years teaching the Sciences, Maths, Health and Social Care. This is one of my passions. I am extremely experienced and will endeavour to do my very best to support and enthuse your child.
