Hello! I'm a recent architecture graduate, and I want to help your child achieve their potential and stimulate a positive attitude towards learning. It's as simple as that. In my opinion, the root of successful tuition consists of three factors: the attention the tutor pays to the student's learning methods, the passion the tutor has for the subject and the enjoyment the tutor receives from the act of teaching. My teaching methods hinge on the recognition that every child is unique. There is no "one size fits all" solution to learning, and hence I establish as quickly as possible which of the various techniques works best for my students and then apply the relevant tutoring methods. As well as maximising academic progress, this approach gives you more value for money. I know that a concept fully understood and a method embedded and consolidated through practice will arm your child with the confidence and skills they need to tackle any question or problem successfully. I also know that the key to success is effective study skills and habits. I can show your child how to organise their learning into easy to revise chunks that work for them. This is a skill that will carry them through their whole education. Anyone who knows me well knows my three main passions to be architecture, Spanish and football (because I rarely talk about anything else!). Unfortunately Tutor House don't offer football coaching, so instead I've opted to tutor the beautifully logical language of Spanish and the disciplines that underpin architecture: maths and physics. So, what makes me qualified to teach these subjects? As shown by my qualifications, I hold an A grade in both maths and physics A-Level with AQA and OCR, respectively. This knowledge is put to use daily in my job as an architectural assistant, where we use calculation and scientific reasoning to create imaginative, effective and innovative architecture that pushes materials to their physical limits. I studied Spanish up to AS-Level, receiving an A grade, and lived in Spain for 9 months last year working as an English teacher. Immersing myself in the language allowed me to learn it from a new, colloquial perspective, broadening my capability. Being the son of a teacher, I've always been close to the profession, and have learnt a lot about the process of teaching and learning through discussion with and observation of my mother. I get a sense of happiness and pride from helping people do things that they couldn't do before, so have always sought out opportunities to teach. In Spain I worked in a primary school, teaching ages 4-12 a range of subjects in the students' non-native English. It was incredibly satisfying to see how far they progressed month to month, and when I left to return to England it was sad to say goodbye; we'd built up quite the relationship. In addition I tutored young adults individually to improve their English. On returning home I have been involved in a term long programme for the organisation Archimake, which teaches children architectural design skills and inspires confidence in their creative ability. My other relevant experience includes childcare and mentoring. My positive and energetic character allowed me to build up a rapport with the children that I minded in their own homes, out and about and on their family holidays abroad. I strove to be an outstanding and trusted role model, whilst allowing them to have fun. At university I was a peer mentor to architecture students in the year below me. My role was to ensure their mental wellbeing as they adapted to university life and the intense architecture degree. Despite being a young tutor, my varied experience thus far has taught me a diverse range of skills and techniques that lend themselves to successful tutoring. I also think that my age makes me more relatable to students. In many cases I will understand and even remember the emotion behind their frustrations, allowing me to formulate a more considered and effective response. My attention to detail and thoughtful approach will provide your child with a considered tailor-made tutoring package. Meanwhile, my irrepressible passion for my chosen subjects coupled with a knowledge base formed by their intense study will facilitate productive and engaging tutoring. Finally, through my love of teaching I will try to inspire a fascination with learning in your child that will benefit them for the rest of their life. It's as simple as that.

I am a qualified medical student from King's College London. I have completed my medical degree and in addition successfully completed a Medical Humanities degree within a year at the University of Bristol. As a highly motivated medical student I enjoy a very successful academic career resulting from my use of well honed study skills. Medicine requires me to demonstrate particular strengths in maths and the sciences, however I have also used my excellent communication skills to present new medical concepts to my colleagues. I have regularly led, set up and organised practical study groups to improve peer skills in objective clinical examinations. I have also taught across a broad range of ability levels: spending two years as an instructor at a swimming club for people with disabilities meant I needed to be positive and encouraging, using my initiative to create fun games and exercises, as well as sympathetic in acknowledging their limitations. As a tutor I am able to share my pragmatic approach to successful study. This includes: the importance of my commitment to a structured learning framework, ensuring study time is a prioritised but integrated part of life, also allowing for the pursuit of other valuable interests; access to relevant learning material targeted to personal requirements. My strong people skills, combined with a passion for learning and motivational, sympathetic approach mean I am to help tutor others to engage more successfully with their studies. For those interested in pursuing medicine as a career, I can also offer coaching in attaining acceptance into University to study it as a degree. This includes (but is not limited to) advice on relevant work experience and personal statements, to applications and interview technique. From my experience, I can also offer insight into what it is like to study medicine, and can answer any questions one may have on the course and potential career options.

After spending ten years happily immersed in Mathematics teaching and private tuition back in Surrey, my wife and I chose to emigrate to South-West France back in 2004 to start a whole new life. It has been the most extraordinary adventure, and we are now fully integrated into French life and have become (almost) fluent French speakers. But I have started to miss the algebraic and numeric world - the time is now right to put on my still-fitting teacher's hat, and help students once again to achieve the best grades that they can, in the subject which has always been close to my heart. My most relevant experience as far as Mathematics tutoring and Classroom teaching is concerned is as follows: Sep. 2003 - Feb. 2004 Beaminster Secondary School, Beaminster, Dorset Part-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Sep. 2002 - Aug. 2003 Sherborne School for Girls, Sherborne, Dorset Full-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for Key Stage 3 SATs, GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Oct. 2000 - Sep. 2002 Holyrood Community School, Chard, Somerset Full-Time Mathematics Teacher. Teaching for Key Stage 3 SATs, GCSE (including coursework) and A-Level. Oct. 1994 - Aug. 2000 Self-Employed (Steve Trinder Tutoring) Full-time home tuition to students of SATs, Common Entrance, GCSE and A-Level Mathematics (Pure, Mechanics and Statistics). Includes assistance with GCSE coursework, A-Level Statistics projects and mature students. Sep. 1998 - Aug. 2000 Parkside Preparatory School, Cobham, Surrey Part-Time Mathematics Teacher. Common Entrance Examinations and Scholarships. Jan. 1997 - Aug. 1998 Denmead Preparatory School, Hampton, Middlesex Head of Mathematics. Full-time Mathematics Teacher. Common Entrance Examinations and Scholarships. Sep. 1994 - Dec. 1996 Burpham Primary School, Burpham, Guildford Mathematics Co-ordinator. Mathematics Teacher to Year 6. Since our emigration to France in 2004, my wife and I have managed our own property management business, “Le Cloup Assistance Location.” We specialise in the marketing and management of rental properties and second homes, with swimming pool maintenance services. I also spent seven years (2007-2014) working for an Estate Agent here in France, as a Commercial Agent. This involved providing internet-based property marketing, selling and valuing properties, and dealing (in French) with French legal acts of sale.

Tutoring FAQs

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Payment will be automatically processed by Tutor House’s Payment Service Provider (PSP). We do not charge you a joining fee or an administration fee, instead we allow you to interact with your chosen tutor directly. You pay the tutor online using a debit or credit card, with your booking being secure and private. Our tutors get paid on the same day of the lesson, so please make sure that you’ve confirmed the lesson before your tutor arrives. Of course! We use Stripe as our third party payment platform. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A-Levels are a stressful time for any students, especially as the results can have a significant and long-lasting impact on a student’s career - both academically and in the workplace.

A

If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks.
