Hello My name is Sydney. I want to tell you a little information about my background. In 2014 I attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Chicago State University and in 2017 I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Radiometrics: Instrumentation and Modelling from the University of Liverpool here in the UK. I will be starting a self - defined PhD program at the University of Leicester in Mathematics beginning this fall 2019 semester. I tutored students in maths, physics and basic chemistry at the university level in Chicago for approximately 2 years. When I arrived in the UK I worked with third year level university students in lab and classroom tutoring for another 2 years. I enjoy traveling, reading, listening to music, doing math problems and puzzles and keeping fit. I am looking forward to furthering my tutor skills and helping students reach their potential!I want to develop their skills in maths at the fundamental level because I think developing a good foundation is the key to understanding mathematics.

I graduated from RHUL in 2016 with a Masters in Physics and a mainly Astrophysical focus, having spent my last year as a peer guide for undergraduate students. For three consecutive years from 2013, I was a Fencing coach during my summers. During that time, I developed an affinity for one to one tutoring and inspiring young people to bring out the best in themselves. During my studies at University, I was faced with a lot of Physical and Mathematical problems that I initially struggled with. To overcome these challenges I developed new techniques to memorise the key information, and most importantly improve my understanding of the topic going forward. As a testament to this, I was one of the weaker students in the programming modules, and am now employed as a professional software developer. I still have a keen personal interest in the subjects covered in current Physics and Mathematics curricula, and understand the importance of a solid mathematical foundation as well as a broad understanding of the concepts contained. My day to day work requires a consistent mathematical understanding of roughly the level that I would like to teach, and my personal interests overlap closely with the physics curriculum. Working with undergraduate students and peers, I most importantly found that different revision techniques can have vastly different impacts on individuals. I am keen on working with your child to develop the learning technique that's best for them and could help them later in their studies, as well as making the process as fun and inspiring as possible.

I also have experience tutoring undergraduate Law students, aiding with Common Entrance exams (11/13+), and also have experience working with disadvantaged students under the Government-sponsored Pupil Premium Programme. I am Masters qualified from the London School of Economics (graduated in December 2018 with an LLM Law), and during my International Baccalaureate I achieved a 6 and a 7 in HL Chemistry and SL Mathematics. Tutoring FAQs

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement.
