I have been a tutor for over 2.5 years, focusing on Chemistry, Maths, Biology and Physics. My students have ranged from young children all the way up to GCSEs and A levels/International Baccalaureate, helping students improve by an average of a two grade increase. I also have experience tutoring undergraduate Law students, aiding with Common Entrance exams (11/13+), and also have experience working with disadvantaged students under the Government-sponsored Pupil Premium Programme. I am Masters qualified from the London School of Economics (graduated in December 2018 with an LLM Law), and during my International Baccalaureate I achieved a 6 and a 7 in HL Chemistry and SL Mathematics. At GCSE, I achieved straight A*s for the relevant subjects. If you have any other queries I would be more than happy for you to contact me to answer any questions!

I'm an experienced science and language tutor with more than 10 years of teaching. SPANISH I have studied Spanish for over 10 years and obtained the highest certificate in Spanish as Foreign Language (DELE) with distinction. I was awarded first prize in many Spanish international competitions. For four years, I did courses in Spanish geography, history and culture, and I normally use what I learned to make my classes interactive and more than a way of teaching a language. I like immersing people in the Spanish culture, with its food, dances, famous painters and explorers. Have taught Spanish as foreign language for more than ten years, in one-to-one and one-to-few sessions. I adapt my style to the students I work with - for one, it can be all about having fun while translating lyrics of famous songs and watching Spanish short films (audio, experiential learners); for another it can be about rigorously tackling grammar and crafting complex stories. Regardless of the approach, you should expect that after a year of weekly/fortnightly classes you would advance by two levels (e.g. A2 to B2). I wholeheartedly recommend trying learning a language from a non-native speaker, as the way a foreign language is learned is very different from a native tongue. If you speak foreign languages, you know what I mean. If not, just give it a go! SCIENCES I'm doing a PhD in Biology at the University of Oxford and have taught both within the university and in private summer schools in Oxford on the topic. I teach both high school students who need help preparing for exams, as well as university students who want to go in-depth within a certain subject or understand course material. My methods focus on applied learning, which means I'll help you understand why it is important to learn something and what you can do with that knowledge, not just how to learn. My teaching method for A-level students focuses on problem-based learning similar to university admissions interviews. I am comfortable teaching younger students in a variety of science subjects, including students with learning difficulties. You can expect a very fun, hands-on approach to learning.

Hi I'm Yetty and I'm a Science Teacher. I have been a teacher for the last 3 years and teach all the sciences (especially the AQA curriculum) up to GCSE level. I've done some tutoring for family and friends in the past and I have really enjoyed the chance to go deeper with explanations. Chemistry is my speciality and I really enjoy it as it was one of the subjects that clicked for me whilst doing my A-levels. I have a Masters in Chemical Engineering because I loved Maths and Chemistry at school and wanted to combine my love of Maths and Chemistry at university. Understanding the basics in any of the sciences is hard so I drill down using lots of examples to ensure that the foundation is laid. This enables you to then build on this and answer challenging questions. So I'm happy to help build those foundations so that you can then move on to the harder more challenging questions enabling you to succeed.

Tutoring FAQs

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.
