I have taught at a Civitas Schools for a year. Civitas is a charity which provides the quality of private tutoring for socio-economically disadvantaged children. Here I taught Maths and English to a range of children between 8-12 years old. I have also privately tutored one-to-one for a year. This was at higher levels, as it was in A-level and GCSE Chemistry, with students going on to reach their target grades. Furthermore, I also have experience in online tutoring in all sciences. In all, I am an experienced science and maths tutor ideal for tutees from primary school to sixth form and beyond.

I am currently in the 2nd year of a PhD in chemistry at UCL following an MChem degree at the University of Durham. As part of my duties and responsibilities as a PhD student, I have taken part in laboratory demonstrating and marking for the undergraduate students. I have enjoyed talking through the chemistry of the students' experiments and have found more effective ways to communicate science over time. When marking, I leave no stone unturned and always emphasise the use of concise and precise scientific language in answering questions. I am keen to bring this thorough approach to more students at the crucial GCSE and A-level stage via one-to-one tutoring.

When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons.
