I have always enjoyed learning languages. I studied French, English and Spanish to A level along with History and General Studies. I went on to study French at Manchester University where I also enjoyed the challenge of learning Russian from scratch. This was to come in very handy when I later worked in Poland. I have been teaching for 30 years. During this time I have taught English as a foreign language to young students and adults in a total of 7 countries. In the UK, I have taught in a number of mixed comprehensive schools, teaching French and Spanish at Key stages 3 and 4. This has given me extensive experience of working with age groups from 11 to 16, a working knowledge of many coursebooks and exam syllabi I enjoy teaching whole classes as well as small groups , which i have experience of through revision clubs and culture clubs. I particularly like the challenge of making subject matter engaging and seeing the pupils progress. I firmly believe in the importance of enabling pupils to think for themselves and get actively involved in their learning. On a personal level, I enjoy running, reading, cinema and cooking. I also play the piano and the ukelele.

My name is Marie and I am a French native speaker. I’ve lived, studied and worked in France, Spain and England. I learnt Spanish as part of my degree (3years) and lived in Spain for five years. I learnt English mainly through immersion and learnt Hindi through self-study (more than 10 years) and visits to India. I spent 5 month in India to teach English and learn Hindi. I have a French post graduate degree in Teaching MFL and the PGCE in MFL. I have taught in a variety of contexts: Private Language Schools, State Schools, businesses and home tutoring, both face to face and online. I’ve been teaching languages – and learning - for the best part of the last 25 years and through these experiences I can, not only empathise with the doubts and struggles of my learners but also make very informed decisions about their needs and I am therefore able to teach them and help them to learn more effectively. The teacher’s role, it seems to me, is, above all, to facilitate and foster learning in a positive and productive environment. I love one-to-one or small group teaching as it is a great opportunity to create a personalised dynamic and to use materials in a more relevant, real-world way without the pressure of the competitive, over-crowded classroom but with the benefit of a hands-on approach. I use a variety of materials which range from traditional published text-books to more authentic materials. The choice of material depends on the age of the learner, their needs and interests. For younger learners the material tends to be more visual and interactive, for learners studying for state school exams the material will be more traditional and for older learners the material tends to be more functional and /or professional. The material in all cases ensures practice in the receptive skills of reading and listening and the productive skills of speaking and writing.

Who can benefit from a private French tutor?

Students from primary level through to degree level and beyond can reap the benefits of hiring a private French tutor. Whether you're learning French for the first time or you want the help of a degree level tutor to help you make that transition from A-Levels to University level, Tutor House will have the right private French tutor for you.

Primary school French tutors - Much like with a musical instrument, it is easier to pick up languages when you start to learn them at a young age. Our passionate and expert private primary French tutors can help children who are struggling with the language to really shine and excel. They will create a personalised and enjoyable learning plan that will address any areas of weakness to make sure that each student’s individual needs are met.

Even if your child’s school doesn’t offer French at primary level, hiring a private French tutor early on in their education will greatly enhance the ease at which they pick up the language and ensure they excel later in their academic career.
GCSE & IGCSE French tutors - GCSEs and IGCSEs are a challenging time in any student’s academic career, with both the complexity of the course and the high stakes of GCSE results making for a potentially stressful period in their education. GCSE French requires students to undergo speaking, listening and writing exercises. All three areas have their own inherent challenges and struggling in just one can damage a student’s grades and lead to a lack of confidence.

Your private French tutor will devise a learning plan that addresses any elements of the syllabus that you may be struggling with. Private French tutors can create exam-like conditions to help you practice for the big day, and can even devise oral exercises to banish those nerves and make sure you are feeling confident when it comes to the real thing. Your private French tutor will not only boost your academic abilities, but they will also ensure that your learning experience is enjoyable, whilst keeping your motivation levels up at the same time!
A-Level French tutors - With university places becoming increasingly competitive, hiring a private French tutor can make all the difference with regards to a student’s approach to their A-Level French. A-Level French is a big step up from GCSE, and it can seem like a daunting challenge to take on. Students are not only expected to develop a comprehensive and varied French vocabulary, but they must also be able to discuss, write about and understand complex social and political issues whilst simultaneously maintaining a strong level of grammar.

Our tutors will not only help students to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of French, but they will also be able to assist students in creating effective revision plans and teach them learning techniques that they can carry forward into the rest of their academic careers. Make sure you achieve those top grades and hire a private French A-Level tutor today.
Degree level French tutors - Studying French at degree level goes far beyond simply being able to communicate in the language. A degree in French will equip students with the skills needed to pursue a career in a position that requires fluency in French, whilst also teaching them how to discuss intricate and complex issues in the language. Many French degree courses also require students to spend a year in France, being immersed in the culture and the language in order to further hone their skill set.

Degrees are a huge step up from A-Level and many students can become overwhelmed by the workload and the quality of the work that is expected. Hiring a private French tutor to help with your French degree will have huge benefits. Private French Tutors can not only help you academically, but can also offer exam and essay tips and tricks that will truly help you to excel and prepare you for a career in the field.
French tutors for adult learners - Whether you’re looking to start learning French for the first time, you want to improve your existing skills or you’re lusting after a job that requires a second language, Tutor House has a whole range of expert tutors who will be able to offer adult learners life-changing French tuition.

Our expert adult tutors will be able to devise a learning plan that is perfectly suited to you. At Tutor House, we understand that working life is hectic and that adult learners may not have the time to undergo face-to-face tutoring sessions with one of our private French tutors. Instead, you can learn with a French tutor online and receive tailored tuition at a time that is convenient for you! In order to get the most out of your French studies, find an expert French tutor for adult learners with Tutor House today.

Tutoring FAQs

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. Tutor House is designed to introduce excellent tutors to customers putting tutors in touch with students and learners. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Tutor House, outside the online platform, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions. In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above. For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

I was head of the English department in my most recent school and have designed a range of English curriculums. I also have A Level Spanish exam marking experience. I have tutored English and languages for 4 years and have successfully helped pupils to gain entry into schools at 10+, 11+, 13+, and to succeed at GCSE and A Level. I love tutoring as I really enjoy working 1:1 with pupils and tailoring the material to suit their needs. I take pride in my enthusiastic, patient and thoughtful approach to teaching. I work closely with the parents to ensure they are up to date on progress made during the sessions and I enjoy getting to know the pupil in order to tailor lesson content to their interests. In my free time I enjoy keeping fit by swimming, running and cycling and I also like cooking, reading and going to the theatre on occasions.

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected.
