I have taught at a Civitas Schools for a year. Civitas is a charity which provides the quality of private tutoring for socio-economically disadvantaged children. Here I taught Maths and English to a range of children between 8-12 years old. I have also privately tutored one-to-one for a year. This was at higher levels, as it was in A-level and GCSE Chemistry, with students going on to reach their target grades. Furthermore, I also have experience in online tutoring in all sciences. In all, I am an experienced science and maths tutor ideal for tutees from primary school to sixth form and beyond.

I am currently in the second year of my PhD in pure mathematics at the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (Imperial, UCL, and King's). Before that, I was an undergraduate at the University of Queensland, Australia, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours Class I with an extended major in Mathematics. I also have a Diploma of Languages majoring in German, and spent a year of my undergraduate degree studying in Munich. As an undergraduate, I gained a variety of experience from both private tutoring and teaching in university environments for students ranging from high school to undergraduate level. Before I began university I did a gap year working for a prep school in Surrey, where I primarily helped students between the ages of 8 and 13 who were struggling in class and/ or being disruptive. I also helped prepare students for the 11 and 13+ exams. I believe that mathematics is an under-appreciated discipline, and I have a passion for teaching maths in an intuitive and relatable way that applies real-world examples. I have ample experience in communicating complicated ideas to students of all abilities and in guiding students to their own understanding.

A-Level German Course Breakdown

Whilst exam boards differ slightly in terms of the specifics of their A-Level German courses, they are all relatively similar in terms of their structure, content and assessment methods. A-Level German syllabuses across exam boards are designed with the intent of testing students on their reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities. The course builds on the knowledge obtained by students at GCSE, and the syllabus content is centred around the interdisciplinary relationship between language, society and culture.

Throughout the course, students will be expected to demonstrate extensive cultural awareness through engaging with the context and history of Germany, developing their understanding of the culture that exists in German-speaking societies and how these societies have changed over time. In the first year of the course, the focus is largely based around the social context and artistic aspects of German-speaking countries. The second year of the course works on building on student’s knowledge about the social and political background of Germany in addition to teaching students about the intricate political and economic relationships that exist between Germany and other European countries.

Students studying German A-Level will also be expected to dedicate a significant amount of time to working on their grammatical skills. They will be required to exhibit an accomplished understanding of the structures and systems of grammar, and be able to implicate these in their own writing and speaking. Students must then use their grammatical knowledge in order to demonstrate that they can speak German spontaneously and creatively, showing that they can use the language to ask and answer questions, and argue a point effectively. Students will also need to study a cultural artefact in either the form of a text or a film, and then engage with it from an interrogatory perspective. They must demonstrate that they have understood the intention of the writer, the themes of the text studied and an appreciation of its wider social, cultural and political contexts.

A different language is a different vision of life - Federico Fellini

Benefits of studying German at A-Level

Skills - A-Level German is a considerable step up from GCSE, and students are encouraged to take a far more independent approach to their learning whilst also producing work to a very high standard. Upon completion of their A-Level German qualification, students will have cultivated their speaking and writing language skills, obtained excellent grammatical abilities and grown considerably in confidence, all of which are coveted skills that are sure to set them apart from the crowd and guarantee them a successful future.

A-Level German also fosters a diverse and widely applicable set of transferable skills that students can take forward into the remainder of their academic experience and post-education careers. Students will gain skills including critical thinking, communication, creativity, time management and organisational skills, all of which are not only valuable to the individual, but will also make them valuable members of society as a whole.

Our expert A-Level German tutors will not only make sure that they are helping students to attain all the subject-specific knowledge needed to excel in their assessments, but they will also help students to cultivate their personal skill set in order to maximise their chances of success no matter what their future has in store.

    Tutoring FAQs

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

    A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

    A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

    A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

    A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.
