I am a Maths graduate who is very passionate about the value of tutoring. Having struggled in lower school myself, I am very proud to be where I am today. The turning point for me was when I started having private tuition. After that, I never looked back and started scoring more than 95% every time. I had a test simply because I started understanding and loving the subject. That is when I decided to pursue my degree in Maths to teach and help other children overcome the fear for this subject. I can proudly say that I have been very successful in whosoever I have taught till now in terms of inducing the love for this subject. Once you start loving Maths, rest is fun. Mathematics is not just solving for "X", it's also figuring out "WHY".

I have a first class honours degree in Psychology from the University of Birmingham. During my second and third years I ran small group sessions to help first year students get used to the style of learning required at university. In these sessions I also helped the students with the content of the harder modules on the course which formed key platforms for understanding material in a wide range of the topics in psychology throughout all years. To do this I encouraged the students to think about their style of learning and used a variety of techniques such as games, worksheets which I prepared, group discussions, videos as well as powerpoint with key information. I also have experience teaching younger children, I have helped children succeed at the 11+. Dance and Drama has been a hobby of mine since I was little and before coming back to university I enjoyed teaching children at a local musical theatre group where I taught dancing, singing and acting to children aged 5-18, helping to prepare them for exams and shows. For some children this was the first time they went on stage, so I provided support and encouragement for this children who were initially overwhelmed by the experience. Since graduating from Psychology, I went onto complete Masters In Mental Health Research from the University of Nottingham, I am now studying medicine at St Georges University on their graduate entry programme.

With 7 years teaching experience and subject leadership experience I get the best out of young people. I have an 100% pass rate of my year 6 tutoring students. I am a sensitive teacher with an understanding of how to boost children's confidence and challenge them to achieve their full potential. I have taught every year group throughout Primary School and can support students in a range of subjects from reception through to year 9. Having spent two years in Year 6 I am experienced in teaching SATs and am familiar with the new style of SATs testing. As a fully qualified and experienced teacher with DBS clearance, I ensure all students are appropriately challenged. I have worked with pupils registered as Gifted and Talented and those with SEND status. Pupils always feel respected and are treated sensitively whilst learning and having fun. I have taught across the Primary phase and have experience of all levels of attainment from the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum to P scales and SATs assessments. I have worked with children on the Autistic spectrum, those diagnosed with Global Delay and those who struggle concentrating within a class setting. In whichever context I am working I ensure that students feel supported both academically, socially and emotionally. This I believe to be key to a successful and rounded education.

Tutoring FAQs

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.
