I have a patient and calm tutoring style and love working with students of all ages. I've tutored A level history students in the past and 3/4 of my students got A grades. I also tutored young children in an after-school homework club at Oxford. I know how to engage students with the curriculum and make them see the fun side of studying. I think the best way to get top grades is by understanding the material, so my methods involve telling stories, QandAs, and making mind maps and colourful notes to make the important stuff stick. I also want my students to take a genuine interest in the subject and be curious about the world and find the experience of learning as enjoyable as I do. A bit about me -- I studied History at Oxford University and graduated in 2012. I've worked as a journalist for the Guardian and the Washington Post and now I work in finance in central London.

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol with a BsC in Psychology & Philosophy. I have experience as a Social Organizer at a TEFL Language school. where I was responsible for students well being (mentoring), workshops and educational excursions around London. Additionally I worked in the SEN department at a school In Westminster. Supporting students ages 11 - 18. All Key Stages including A Level & IB. I have worked with students who have Asperger's, Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Anxiety, Sight-Impairment and Physical Disabilities. I have been working with young people for 3 years now and have gained a well rounded portfolio of experience. I have been grateful to receive wonderful feedback from students, parents and colleagues! Previous tutoring jobs: - Mentored a teenager with Anxiety over an 8 month period. - Tutored part-time for 2 years in subjects such as Art and A Level Psychology, iGCSE & IB (HL) History, iGCSE English Literature & Language. - Since October I have been working full time as a tutor in a home school set up. I have been responsible for developing their curriculum in subjects: English Literature & Language, R.E, Art, Politics and Current Affairs, Textiles, Educational Excursions, 11+, 13+. Both students have excelled under my guidance and really come into their own! They have consequently been accepted to their school of choice. I have varied interests myself and really try to instill confidence and academic curiosity in my students. As I believe this is equally important to achieving top marks! Fun fact: I paint professionally and like to write in my spare time. I am now keen to take on more students and would love the opportunity to work with you!

I am a Linguistics graduate therefore I am passionate about language. I am hoping to go on to complete a Masters in Speech and Language Therapy to build on my current work experience in school. I currently work in a Primary School as a Teaching Assistant supporting students with SEND and those on the Autism Spectrum in Reception Class. I support them with Speech and Language and help develop their Fine Motor Skills. My teaching style is that I like to base topics around students' interests especially when they are younger. My approach is adaptable and I can alter the plan according to the students' needs. I am happy to share resources so the students can work on the topic outside of tuition. My experience as a tutor includes mentoring students on a one-to-one basis studying English and History at A Level by building up their confidence to tackle exams and to deconstruct questions to help build a better understanding of the topic. I previously have tutored a student in conversational French to prepare for their move to Canada. My professional experience includes working in Marketing and Graphic Design roles including running my own marketing campaigns for a College. This means I can assist anyone looking to build their marketing skills or need assistance on projects.

Why Book A Private History Tutor?

Online History Tutoring

A private history tutor can be a great addition to a student's regular schooling. History poses particular challenges to students requiring additional levels of research and a large amount of information to be learnt over the course of a school year. A history tutor, at any level, can help guide students through these challenges by giving extra attention to specific elements of the syllabus that the student may be struggling with.

History holds a very interesting position amongst the humanities as it gives students a wider understanding of the world they live in, as such those topics can sometimes get muddled in context. This is just another expamle of how a private history tutor can help a student by refocusing research and writing techniques to make sure the point that is trying to be made isn't lost.

"

A truly excellent teacher. Ned has 'teacher intelligence' he is able to understand where the student needs help and he is able to provide help in a powerful and clear way. Quite a rarity and much appreciated.

A Level History Tutor - Looking for help learning and studying History A-level in your area? Our private history tutors will travel to your home, or tutor History online, so that you feel confident and prepared come exam time. Whether you’re in need of help with a cumulative project or an extensive A-Level paper – our tutors are passionate to help you learn history.
Pre-U History Tutor - A Pre-U History Tutor can do a great deal to help students achieve the highest grades at Pre-U possible. Pre-U History offers more of a challenge to students than a History A-Level does due to the structure of the learnring focusing freedom and resourcefulness. It's why Pre-U is especially good for those looking to study History as it mimics the way in which students will be responsible for their own research and the requirement to read around the subject.

A private Pre-U history tutor can assist a student when navigating through the demands of Pre-History.
Degree Level Private History Tutor - Degree level history takes the subject into considerably more detail. A great deal of a student’s time is spent in the library researching in order to develop a thorough understanding of the topic being studied.

Unsurprisingly this can be a taxing task, both intellectually but also on a student’s stamina. It’s common for some history students to find themselves lost for direction, with the university facility unable to devote the time to assist properly.

A history degree, like many other subjects at university, is assessed in three key ways. Long-form essay assignments, exams and a final dissertation. A private history tutor in London can help with each of these to make sure you or your child receive the highest grade you can.

A private history tutor can help make sure you’re spending your time in the library as efficiently as possible. Deciding on the best essay titles, making sure you’re reading the correct books, essay structure and exam preparation are all areas where private history tuition is beneficial at university level.

With Tutor House you can speak with your private history tutor before booking a lesson through our messaging platform. This way you can make sure that they have the relevant knowledge to properly help you with the topics you’re studying.

Think of a private history tuition as something to assist you with your history studies. One to one history tuition offers a teaching experience that even small seminars cannot replicate.

Universities are melting pots of ideas. A place where, especially if you’re studying history, you can learn from other people opinions and knowledge on a particular subject. A private history tutor can help you process that new information – to help you develop your own ideas with thorough research and a clear and concise point to be made.

If you need help navigating through historical periods meticulously, our degree-level private history tutors are highly experienced and can help today. Most of our degree-level tutors are also experienced history lecturers and professors; many having written university textbooks themselves.

Tutoring FAQs

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

A

You can pay the tutor directly and securely through the Tutor House website. However, if you do pay outside of the Tutor House site, you will not be protected by our 48 hour Cancelation Policy, nor our Disputes or Refunds Policy, we also do not guarantee that you’ll be protected from fraud. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.
