I am an accomplished and student-focused Higher Education trainer, who has over 10 years of experience. I have decided to change my career path to become a private tutor. I am currently studying an MSc in Psychology from UEL and was awarded a scholarship to study this based on my research interests. I also hold a BSc in Anthropology from UEL. This academic course allowed me to acquire a deep knowledge in key subjects such as Biology, Psychology and Physiology. I am patient and a close observer of student weaknesses and learning styles. I have a step-by-step, methodical and enthusiastic approach towards teaching. I also advocate good writing and presentation skills, emphasising on the key areas for which marks are awarded in examinations. I am flexible and approachable and will develop individual plans for clients, to make sure that set objectives are achieved or bettered. If you would like to know more about my tutoring, then please do contact me and I would be delighted to discuss it further with you.

I am an experienced professional tutor with a First class Bachelor's degree in Physics and Philosophy from the University of Bristol. I am going on to study a Masters in History and Philosophy of Science either at Cambridge or the LSE (I haven't yet decided!) This interdisciplinarity commits me to well-informed, creative and self-generated ways of thought which I encourage in all my pupils. I have been a professional tutor for 6 years and besides tutoring my primary subjects of Natural Sciences, Maths and Philosophy I have given guidance with academic confidence, writing skills and exam technique. I am very comfortable with all syllabuses and am aware of the examiners expectations and motivations for the new style exams. Every one of my students has excelled and received A*/A grades at GCSE and A-level. I have a conversational style, part lesson and part problem solving. I pay lots of attention to how pupils engage with and work with specific problems. This allows me to simultaneously understand gaps in knowledge as well as technical and analytical reasoning. I am expert in helping students with formulating their thoughts and pushing themselves to be creative in how they handle the knowledge they take from school. By helping pupils explore how they learn they become comfortably able to present their knowledge with clarity- essential in both real life and exam settings. Most recently I was employed to deliver science lesson plans to a group of year 7 and 8 students of mixed ability from minority backgrounds. I instructed groups of 15 students and learnt a huge amount of techniques to garner respect and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning. I made an effort to incorporate interesting subject matter that connected obscure scientific topics to the world around them and gave them a taste of the activities and concepts encountered at graduate level studies. I left this job because I moved from Bristol to London. As part of my degree, I mentored a group of five fifteen year old children from Pakistan. Over the course of 6 weeks we developed comfortable bonds and were able to discuss Schrodingers cat as well as special relativity, accessed through a brief history of our conception of space. I was awarded the highest mark in the group for my efforts. The powerful dynamics of small groups brought to light the dangers of large class sizes where students are easily made to feel like unworthy contributors. "Samar was an excellent tutor to my sister, Andrea, through her A-levels. Andrea had chosen Physics and Maths out of a passion for the subjects but was held back by inadequate teaching in her GCSE’s. This meant that she was in need of a supervisor that could identify where the gaps in her knowledge were so that she could receive training for the tools she needed. Samar was instrumental in building knowledge and confidence so that Andrea could expertly grasp the topics and achieve A* grades. As soon as he started tutoring, Andrea related to us that Samar had helped her understand her weaknesses and shown her how to improve." -- Jemal, parent.

Why Book A Private History Tutor?

Online History Tutoring

A private history tutor can be a great addition to a student's regular schooling. History poses particular challenges to students requiring additional levels of research and a large amount of information to be learnt over the course of a school year. A history tutor, at any level, can help guide students through these challenges by giving extra attention to specific elements of the syllabus that the student may be struggling with.

History holds a very interesting position amongst the humanities as it gives students a wider understanding of the world they live in, as such those topics can sometimes get muddled in context. This is just another expamle of how a private history tutor can help a student by refocusing research and writing techniques to make sure the point that is trying to be made isn't lost.

We've had 10,000 lessons rated 5 stars by our students

"

My daughter has so far had a couple of sessions with Max, who has been tutoring her in History A Level and in particular has been advising her on how to research efficiently, as well as ideas on how to structure an essay. Very helpful and worthwhile.

- Isobel

"

I was looking for help with the step up from GCSE to A level History, and Jacob was excellent! It was very easy to book a convenient time. He provided a detailed plan of how to tackle an essay question, approach to sources and example essay structures.

- Rachel

"

Richard came prepared and helped enormously. He was very professional, on time and I would recommend him to any student that needs help with history which we needed.

A Level History Tutor - Looking for help learning and studying History A-level in your area? Our private history tutors will travel to your home, or tutor History online, so that you feel confident and prepared come exam time. Whether you’re in need of help with a cumulative project or an extensive A-Level paper – our tutors are passionate to help you learn history.
Pre-U History Tutor - A Pre-U History Tutor can do a great deal to help students achieve the highest grades at Pre-U possible. Pre-U History offers more of a challenge to students than a History A-Level does due to the structure of the learnring focusing freedom and resourcefulness. It's why Pre-U is especially good for those looking to study History as it mimics the way in which students will be responsible for their own research and the requirement to read around the subject.

A private Pre-U history tutor can assist a student when navigating through the demands of Pre-History.
Degree Level Private History Tutor - Degree level history takes the subject into considerably more detail. A great deal of a student’s time is spent in the library researching in order to develop a thorough understanding of the topic being studied.

Unsurprisingly this can be a taxing task, both intellectually but also on a student’s stamina. It’s common for some history students to find themselves lost for direction, with the university facility unable to devote the time to assist properly.

A history degree, like many other subjects at university, is assessed in three key ways. Long-form essay assignments, exams and a final dissertation. A private history tutor in London can help with each of these to make sure you or your child receive the highest grade you can.

A private history tutor can help make sure you’re spending your time in the library as efficiently as possible. Deciding on the best essay titles, making sure you’re reading the correct books, essay structure and exam preparation are all areas where private history tuition is beneficial at university level.

With Tutor House you can speak with your private history tutor before booking a lesson through our messaging platform. This way you can make sure that they have the relevant knowledge to properly help you with the topics you’re studying.

Think of a private history tuition as something to assist you with your history studies. One to one history tuition offers a teaching experience that even small seminars cannot replicate.

Universities are melting pots of ideas. A place where, especially if you’re studying history, you can learn from other people opinions and knowledge on a particular subject. A private history tutor can help you process that new information – to help you develop your own ideas with thorough research and a clear and concise point to be made.

If you need help navigating through historical periods meticulously, our degree-level private history tutors are highly experienced and can help today. Most of our degree-level tutors are also experienced history lecturers and professors; many having written university textbooks themselves.

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.
