Music Pre-U is designed to challenge students’ thinking in an ornate theme. Obtaining a D1 or D2 in Music Pre-U is essential for students hoping to attend their first-choice university.

The Cambridge Pre-U Music exam is composed of four components, which are (2019-2021 syllabus):
- 1 – Paper 11 & 12: Listening & Analysis and Historical Study – One hour and thirty minute external exam for each – weighing 15% each (60 marks each)
- 2 – Performing – Twenty-five to thirty minute external exam – weighing 22.5% (90 marks)
- 3 – Composing – Tw0 hour external exam plus coursework – weighing 22.5% (30 marks)
- 3 – Personal Study – External exam – weighing 25% (100 marks)
