I personally love to explore things; helping others to learn rather than making them remember. I usually solve any logical problem and explain it clearly. Experience came from the exams, where i used to explain to my friends before the exams. However we do get good results. I only want to make myself challenging and keep myself to a limit where i can enjoy the work and coming up with satisfying output.

My name is Nayim, I am 23 and live in South London, and I work as both a professional tutor and also a teacher in North London. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2016 and graduated with a MSc from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Astrophysics and Cosmology in 2018. My professional experience with tutoring began while studying at the University of Cambridge as I partially supported myself through tutoring A-level students in the city and also helping my fellow colleagues in my course. After graduating, I spent a year in Berlin working and volunteering with groups that were in need of people with mathematics and science skills, and it was here that I started to tutor full-time as I fully supported myself through teaching students Mathematics and Physics, mainly at IB, A-level and University level. I also continued full-time tutoring while in Barcelona for a year completing my masters. My students during these two years ranged from ages 12 to 29, while primarily being in 14 to 19 age range. During these two years, I was responsible for: liaising with both prospective students and their parents; coordinating lessons and devising tailored lesson plans for my students based on their abilities and curricula; bridging the gaps between my knowledge of courses in the UK and the courses being taught in Europe; understanding how best to engage and teach my students while also tracking their progress to ensure that they were best prepared for their exams. My hopes for now are to further my teaching abilities and experience while also pursuing my own writing and research interests, so as to become a more full teacher, learner and human.

I am currently in the second year of my PhD in pure mathematics at the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (Imperial, UCL, and King's). Before that, I was an undergraduate at the University of Queensland, Australia, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours Class I with an extended major in Mathematics. I also have a Diploma of Languages majoring in German, and spent a year of my undergraduate degree studying in Munich. As an undergraduate, I gained a variety of experience from both private tutoring and teaching in university environments for students ranging from high school to undergraduate level. Before I began university I did a gap year working for a prep school in Surrey, where I primarily helped students between the ages of 8 and 13 who were struggling in class and/ or being disruptive. I also helped prepare students for the 11 and 13+ exams. I believe that mathematics is an under-appreciated discipline, and I have a passion for teaching maths in an intuitive and relatable way that applies real-world examples. I have ample experience in communicating complicated ideas to students of all abilities and in guiding students to their own understanding.

General information about studying Philosophy at University

While many students may have studied Philosophy at A-level, it is not a prerequisite for most University Philosophy courses and the syllabus is developed to serve students who are studying the subject for the first time. In the first year, Philosophy students will be given an introduction and overview of Philosophy, discovering the various subcategories and key thinkers as well as beginning to consider some key ethical, moral and logical Philosophy questions.

As the degree course progresses, students will dive deeper into the key schools of thought in Philosophy before going on to select modules and a Philosophical specialism that is most reflective of their interests. While each University Philosophy course is different, and each student will select different modules, students can expect to be given the option of studying some or all of the following:

  • Metaphysics
  • Philosophical Ethics
  • Philosophical Logic
  • Epistemology
  • Political Philosophy

Regardless of their module choices, students can expect to confront some of the big questions about life, such as the basis of morality, the value of life, the nature of truth and reality, the purpose of human existence and the complexity of human nature. Students will be introduced to some of the most prominent and obscure Philosophical theorists throughout history, from Aristotle to Kant, Aquinas to Chomsky, Descartes to Bentham and many more. The course also teaches students to apply theoretical ethics to real-life issues and debate different stances from a range of perspectives.

Philosophy encompasses a vast array of topics and subjects, often seeping into other disciplines such as politics, sociology and psychology. As a result, many students choose to study Philosophy as part of a dual honors with common combinations including, PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics), Politics and English, Politics and Maths or Politics and History. Many students choose to focus entirely on pure Philosophy so as to delve further into the different Philosophical approaches, topics and theories.

Philosophy degrees involve a great deal of extended writing, predominantly in the form of essays. Students are generally assessed via a combination of module essays, end of year written examinations and a final year dissertation. Some courses also include assessed presentations or debates where students will be expected to deliver information orally.

Benefits of Studying Philosophy at University

    Tutoring FAQs

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

    Tutoring FAQs
