I have a patient and calm tutoring style and love working with students of all ages. I've tutored A level history students in the past and 3/4 of my students got A grades. I also tutored young children in an after-school homework club at Oxford. I know how to engage students with the curriculum and make them see the fun side of studying. I think the best way to get top grades is by understanding the material, so my methods involve telling stories, QandAs, and making mind maps and colourful notes to make the important stuff stick. I also want my students to take a genuine interest in the subject and be curious about the world and find the experience of learning as enjoyable as I do. A bit about me -- I studied History at Oxford University and graduated in 2012. I've worked as a journalist for the Guardian and the Washington Post and now I work in finance in central London.

I've always had a passion for the sciences, so studied Physics at undergraduate level. Following a master's in (essentially) medical technology I had realised that I am truly energised by helping others, so I decided to study Medicine. I love to teach and have been been tutoring for just over eight years. I have an excellent track record, with all of my students having either exceeded or met their targets. I take a calm approach to tutoring and endeavour to teach my students the skills to learn effectively and with confidence.

I am currently a physics undergraduate at Warwick University. I have previously tutored at a local community centre where I would tutor students over a 5 week period on a specific topic so at the end of the sessions they were confident in that area. Similarly , i tutored in my high school, providing extra support to students who struggled in science and maths . Having struggled with maths and physics when i was younger , I know how to help students approach these subjects to make them less daunting and more enjoyable, hence i think i am an ideal candidate to tutor students in these subjects .

    Tutoring FAQs

    A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

    A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

    A

Booking and paying for private tuition has never been easier! As a customer, you’ll need to add your credit or debt card details to your profile after you sign in. You pay the tutor online using a debit or credit card, with your booking being secure and private. Our tutors get paid on the same day of the lesson, so please make sure that you’ve confirmed the lesson before your tutor arrives. Of course! We use Stripe as our third party payment platform. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

    A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

    A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

    A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. Tutor House is designed to introduce excellent tutors to customers putting tutors in touch with students and learners. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Tutor House, outside the online platform, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions. In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above. For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

    A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.
