My name is Heather, I am a qualified nurse (psychiatric), I run my own practice delivering cognitive-behavioural therapy (specialising in brain injury) and general practice patients. I have been working in tutoring/teaching for over 30 years in a variety of settings. This has included training on brain injury, mental health issues and challenging behaviours to care agencies, other health professionals and I am a specialist mentor for students with psychological difficulties. I currently mentor students of all ages, including refugees, helping them to prepare for FE, school children and individuals with ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s and Dyslexia. I work at various universities and colleges throughout the country. The subjects that I teach are psychology and English. My approach consists of academic learning combined with exploring the subject in a practical way as well. I find that this keeps the students interested. I like to promote discussion and to help students see the bigger picture whilst keeping to the guidelines set by the relevant educational facility.

I am a qualified teacher and a conscientious freelance tutor, specialising in preparing students for 11+ exams in Maths, English,Verbal Reasoning and non Verbal Reasoning. I have a wide experience in working with an array of school pupils of all ages in applications to selective grammar schools. I have been a tutor for 10 years and offer personalised and rewarding lessons. My approach is to build a strong professional relationships with my tutees and swiftly establish what pupils need help with, this is achieved in ensuring students are comfortable to question what they don't understand and so fourth. I strongly believe in a systematic approach of using a personalised plan I create from initial assessments. This is used alongside material's from books to gain a depth of understanding and lots of past papers to get students into the swing of time pressures and methods. I go through past exam papers with my tutees to help with examination technique. For vocabulary learning I feel that a little, aloud and often approach is necessary every evening. I set vocabulary learning and tests every week. The most important aspect of lessons I think is ensuring learning is engaging and this derives from the relationship with the Tutor and tutee. After achieving my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Royal Holloway University of London, I then went on to do a Masters in Education. I taught for a couple of years where I had qualified. I now work for one of the Global Big 4 Accounting firms as a Business Consultant recently becoming a Chartered Institute of Management Consultants qualified. I am therefore confident that I have a unique skill set whereby I can ensure I we can gain your child admission into the school of your choosing.

GCSE Psychology Course Breakdown

Whilst specifications vary slightly across exam boards, at the heart of the GCSE Psychology syllabus is the study of human behaviour and the complex processes of the human mind. The course is assessed via written exams and is generally split into two sections:

Cognition and Behaviour - This section of the course is concerned with teaching students about the psychological processes and procedures that underpin human behaviour. Students will examine topics including human development, memory perception and research methods. They will be expected to be able to effectively communicate their knowledge and ideas using specialist vocabulary, terminology and convention in order to actively engage in the procedures of psychological enquiry.
Social Context and Behaviour - In this part of the course, students will engage more closely with social contexts and how these influence human behaviour. Topics studied include social influence, language, thought and communication, brain and neuropsychology and psychological problems. Students will need to demonstrate that they understand both the methods of Psychology and its practical applications.

Benefits of Studying Psychology GCSE

Studying GCSE Psychology is a great investment, and throughout the learning process students will gain a whole range of skills and knowledge that will form the building blocks of their further education. Not only will students obtain notable subject-specific knowledge, but they will have also cultivated a personal skill set that will ensure them success in their respective futures, whatever path they may take.

Skills - The skills gained from partaking in a Psychology GCSE are significant, and will not only help students going forward in their academic careers, but will also be significantly useful for them outside of a classroom setting.

Transferable skills that students will attain from studying Psychology at GCSE include research abilities, analytical thinking, time management, problem-solving skills, essay writing and personal motivation, all of which make them hugely attractive to both Universities and potential employers. Your GCSE Psychology tutor will not only work with you to improve your subject knowledge and understanding, but they will also help you to foster these skills in order to ensure that you are advancing as an individual as well academically.
A-Levels and beyond - GCSE Psychology equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the processes and contexts of Psychology, giving them the perfect platform from which to embark upon an A-Level in the same subject. However, the skills and knowledge gained are also applicable to a wide range of other subjects that span science, the arts and humanities.

Students who study Psychology at GCSE often go on to study Psychology or a Psychology related degree at University. However, Psychology is also a great prerequisite for a wide range of other courses, including other Science-specific degrees, humanities such as Geography and History, and even art degrees, as these all deal with human behaviour in some way or another.

Studying Psychology provides students with a broad range of skills and opens up opportunities with a variety of employers. Students who study Psychology go on to have careers in numerous different fields, ranging from clinical psychology, counselling and occupational psychology, to careers advising, policy, government roles, market research or even teaching. Tutoring FAQs

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. Tutor House is designed to introduce excellent tutors to customers putting tutors in touch with students and learners. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Tutor House, outside the online platform, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions. In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above. For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.
