I am a first year undergraduate at the University of Oxford studying Mathematics and Philosophy with A*A*A*A at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Ancient Greek and Physics as well as a 1 in STEP 2 and 11 A*s at GCSE. During my last year at school, I tutored pupils from the local area as well as fellow students at my school which I really enjoyed. One of the pupils who I tutored subsequently got into Hampton School at 10+. As someone who is closer in age to my tutees, I am able to develop a connection with students and thereby better approach their learning. Tutoring for me is immensely enjoyable and rewarding. Away from academic studies I also have a keen interest in music and drama - I play the piano, trumpet and guitar and regularly get involved with plays.

I am an Oxford and UCL alumna with over 3 years professional experience for a leading London tutoring agency. As a private tutor, I have 6+ years experience providing focused, energetic and creative lessons. *Mission & Vision* My lessons are seldom boring. I have a skill for transforming dull tasks and concepts into engaging projects. My passion to inspire my students to take ownership of their learning, means I deliver unique lessons beyond the conventional textbook approach. As a Software Engineer and business-technology professional, I think it is becoming increasingly important that my students are equipped with the skills and mindset to break the mould, have confidence to take on new ideas and emotional intelligence to support others. Most importantly, my students engage in thinking about wider economic, social and environmental issues in the world today. *Approach & Values* I really value giving the space for my students to explore what makes them tick. I take a ‘get knocked back one step and bounce back two steps’ approach as I feel that confidence and humility are the ingredients for successful learning. I encourage my students to treat others with respect and think about different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. There is a lot of diversity in students I teach and thus, lessons are tailored according to the learning styles of each student. My lessons combine theory and hands-on activities, so students can enjoy the entire learning process. I supplement learning with materials aligned to core specimens and those which I purchase complementary to individual learning goals. *About Me* Software Engineer - Fellow | Hobbyist Coder 💻 | Agile Enthusiast 😍 | Tutor 📔| Pianist 🎹 | Alto 🎤 I am a London-based Software Engineer and Fellow. As an experienced business-technology professional, I am interested in the power of coding and technology for instigating social, environmental and economic change. I lead and coach young people as a tutor and also play the piano and sing as an Alto at a Central London choir.

Just finished IB with a stunning full marks of 45! The journey definitely wasn’t easy but I acquired knowledge on how to excel on the exams, tips I definitely want to teach to you if you also want to achieve academic excellence. Having just taken the IB, I will fully understand the most important aspects of the subjects I took – the concepts you definitely need to comprehend and some details that you will be fine with overlooking. I am skilled at explaining complex ideas by breaking it down into small subtopics and patiently walking it through with students. I have also taken the IGCSE with equal academic excellence and am confident in teaching the subjects to students who are struggling. Having taken many exams in school, I have also learned a few critical methods that are not taught by teachers but will certainly improve your performance in exams. I have had multiple teaching experiences working with younger students which have given me a better understanding of how to most effectively explain difficult concepts and convey information. One such experience being the Long-Distance Learning Program I led in collaboration with NGO Noughts and Hearts to teach students in Inner Mongolia English as well as cultivate their critical thinking through discussions and debates. This experience was especially beneficial to me as an aspiring educator because it highlighted the problems encountered in online education lying in the difficulty of organising groups of students and building rapport with each student. As such, tackling these issues has enabled me to better deliver quality teaching to students. As a result, my teaching style is flexible and adaptable. I am meticulous and thus will make abundant preparation for each teaching session by listing out topics to cover, arranging accompanying notes to facilitate the session, and composing exam-style questions to check students' understanding. However, I will also adapt my teaching style once I get to know the student and their learning style better, making sure they can learn more effectively in each session. I am fully competent to teach biology, chemistry and maths at the level of IB and IGCSE as I have achieved both A*s and 7s in these subjects. Personally studying these subjects for the past 4 years, at different levels, means I fully understand the experience of learning the content of these subjects. I know which sections of the subject posed as challenges in my studies, and how best to explain them so students can successfully grasp the concept. Also, having taken the exams, I know which topics are more heavily assessed and which are most often ignored, thus allowing students to better understand their syllabus to organise their study time more effectively. Furthermore, I will also incorporate study tips and examination techniques that I have picked up over the past few years into each teaching session, thus making students better equipped to excel at their exams. Currently, I am studying medicine at GKT Medical School of King’s College London, a prestigious university that offers one of the highest standard education in medicine. I am also fluent in Mandarin and would love to provide help in studying and understanding this cultural-rich language. Looking forward to supporting your studies and future endeavours!

Tutoring FAQs

A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

A

Booking and paying for private tuition has never been easier! As a customer, you’ll need to add your credit or debt card details to your profile after you sign in. You can pay the tutor directly and securely through the Tutor House website. However, if you do pay outside of the Tutor House site, you will not be protected by our 48 hour Cancelation Policy, nor our Disputes or Refunds Policy, we also do not guarantee that you’ll be protected from fraud. You will then receive a confirmation email notifying you of the hours completed with the tutor. The email will also confirm the date and time that the lesson(s) took place. Payment will be automatically processed by Tutor House’s Payment Service Provider (PSP). We do not charge you a joining fee or an administration fee, instead we allow you to interact with your chosen tutor directly. You pay the tutor online using a debit or credit card, with your booking being secure and private. Our tutors get paid on the same day of the lesson, so please make sure that you’ve confirmed the lesson before your tutor arrives. Of course! We use Stripe as our third party payment platform. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

Tutor House endeavours to ensure that both tutors and clients have the best possible experience with our service. We’re always here to help, so do reach out and contact us. If you ever have unresolved disputes with your tutor we will assist you in reaching a mutual agreement. We will do our utmost to try and resolve all disputes; however we may not be in a position to resolve every dispute. Please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.
