Hello! I'm a recent architecture graduate, and I want to help your child achieve their potential and stimulate a positive attitude towards learning. It's as simple as that. In my opinion, the root of successful tuition consists of three factors: the attention the tutor pays to the student's learning methods, the passion the tutor has for the subject and the enjoyment the tutor receives from the act of teaching. My teaching methods hinge on the recognition that every child is unique. There is no "one size fits all" solution to learning, and hence I establish as quickly as possible which of the various techniques works best for my students and then apply the relevant tutoring methods. As well as maximising academic progress, this approach gives you more value for money. I know that a concept fully understood and a method embedded and consolidated through practice will arm your child with the confidence and skills they need to tackle any question or problem successfully. I also know that the key to success is effective study skills and habits. I can show your child how to organise their learning into easy to revise chunks that work for them. This is a skill that will carry them through their whole education. Anyone who knows me well knows my three main passions to be architecture, Spanish and football (because I rarely talk about anything else!). Unfortunately Tutor House don't offer football coaching, so instead I've opted to tutor the beautifully logical language of Spanish and the disciplines that underpin architecture: maths and physics. So, what makes me qualified to teach these subjects? As shown by my qualifications, I hold an A grade in both maths and physics A-Level with AQA and OCR, respectively. This knowledge is put to use daily in my job as an architectural assistant, where we use calculation and scientific reasoning to create imaginative, effective and innovative architecture that pushes materials to their physical limits. I studied Spanish up to AS-Level, receiving an A grade, and lived in Spain for 9 months last year working as an English teacher. Immersing myself in the language allowed me to learn it from a new, colloquial perspective, broadening my capability. Being the son of a teacher, I've always been close to the profession, and have learnt a lot about the process of teaching and learning through discussion with and observation of my mother. I get a sense of happiness and pride from helping people do things that they couldn't do before, so have always sought out opportunities to teach. In Spain I worked in a primary school, teaching ages 4-12 a range of subjects in the students' non-native English. It was incredibly satisfying to see how far they progressed month to month, and when I left to return to England it was sad to say goodbye; we'd built up quite the relationship. In addition I tutored young adults individually to improve their English. On returning home I have been involved in a term long programme for the organisation Archimake, which teaches children architectural design skills and inspires confidence in their creative ability. My other relevant experience includes childcare and mentoring. My positive and energetic character allowed me to build up a rapport with the children that I minded in their own homes, out and about and on their family holidays abroad. I strove to be an outstanding and trusted role model, whilst allowing them to have fun. At university I was a peer mentor to architecture students in the year below me. My role was to ensure their mental wellbeing as they adapted to university life and the intense architecture degree. Despite being a young tutor, my varied experience thus far has taught me a diverse range of skills and techniques that lend themselves to successful tutoring. I also think that my age makes me more relatable to students. In many cases I will understand and even remember the emotion behind their frustrations, allowing me to formulate a more considered and effective response. My attention to detail and thoughtful approach will provide your child with a considered tailor-made tutoring package. Meanwhile, my irrepressible passion for my chosen subjects coupled with a knowledge base formed by their intense study will facilitate productive and engaging tutoring. Finally, through my love of teaching I will try to inspire a fascination with learning in your child that will benefit them for the rest of their life. It's as simple as that.

I am a friendly and hardworking student who is currently studying Biomedical Sciences at King's College London University which compliments my passion for mathematics and the sciences. Studying a degree composed of biology and chemistry has allowed me to further increase and strengthen my knowledge in these subjects, allowing me to be very knowledgeable on the contents taught in both GCSE and A Level Sciences. Through tutoring, I aim to provide great confidence to all students and help them to enjoy the subjects that they may find challenging. Since I appreciate that every individual has a different style of learning, I aim to adapt my teaching methods to suit each individual in order to provide the best experience and to deliver the content effectively. I am highly aware of the course structure for the subjects I tutor as well as exam techniques and the different effective approaches to learn content that students often find challenging. My style of teaching is to use diagrams, past papers questions and to deliver engaging sessions to make sure that students have grasped key concepts and are confident enough to tackle an exam style question. For mathematics, I am aware of many methods and different approaches which can be used to simplify difficult questions which are beneficial and time-saving skills that are useful in exams. Working in retail for almost 2 years has made me a very calm, understanding and helpful person which are important qualities all tutors should have. I give great importance to every individual that I teach and will aim to deliver the best assistance in helping each individual to achieve their target grades.

I'm an extremely passionate and experienced tutor. I am a polyglot, having learnt over 15 languages to various levels (of which I am at least conversational in 10) and I have an MA in French and Italian from the University of Cambridge. My considerable language learning experience is very helpful in enthusing and helping my students. As well as languages, I love foreign cultures and so often use foreign music, films or reading in my lessons. I am also an avid reader and sports enthusiast - I play tennis, badminton and football and sometimes squash and table-tennis. I'm a big Manchester United fan and one of my most embarrassing moments came when Manchester United were winning the title with 3 minutes to go in May 2012 and I got so excited that I changed my Facebook status celebrating our title victory in front of my friends, only for Man City to score 2 goals in 3 minutes to pip us to the title and leave me feeling very humiliated! I have over 4 years’ experience as a tutor. I have taught English as a Foreign Language, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Latin to various levels as well as English (Language/Literature) and Maths to 13+ level and below. My teaching experience has allowed me the opportunity to get to know a range of different people from all ages and backgrounds, as I have taught students from 5 years old to over 60 years old and of all different levels! I often develop great rapports with my students. One of my students, to whom I have been teaching French for over 3 years, achieved an A* in French GCSE under my guidance. I continue to teach her French for A Level and she said that the influence of my teaching was a big factor in her choosing to keep studying the subject. The parents of an 11+ student, to whom I taught English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and with whom I had a great rapport, left me the following review (they also gave me five out of five stars): “An outstanding tutor who inspires great self-confidence in his pupil, who works with great calm and efficiency, utterly convincing, a true model for a young student.” I hope to achieve similar results with you! As a polyglot, I am extremely passionate about language learning, one of my favourite hobbies. My considerable experience as a learner means I know common pitfalls and difficulties for students, as well as how to explain these and break them down in simple terms. My teaching style therefore revolves around enthusing my student by transmitting my passion for languages to them. I believe that, if a student sees the advantages of learning languages, whether this is communicating with foreign people or getting to know literature in a different language, they will start to learn proactively and so improve faster. However, I do also have high standards. There are some language learning techniques that are more efficient than others and, given my experience, I’d like to think I’m well placed to know them!

    Tutoring FAQs

    A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

    A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

    A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

    A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

    A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Tutor House, outside the online platform, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions. In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above. For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

    A
