I have been teaching mathematics and physics as a private tutor for the entirety of my student career. My studies help me to impart knowledge in a more enthusiastic, clear and convincing way, with the ability to relate scientific and mathematical concepts to everyday life, and to the various aspect for which they are taught. I have a passion for the subjects that I teach and I try to enthuse that passion in my students too. I have a genuine interest in the needs and aspirations of students and I use a wide range of delivery methods. All the lessons are planned to adapt teaching materials to the specific learning styles of every individual. Every student learns differently and it is important to me to identify their own unique learning style, not only to maximise their potential but also motivate them to engage in learning. Therefore all of my lessons are planned to adapt teaching materials to the specific learning styles of each individual. My final aim is to encourage students to work independently in the long run without the need of a tutor. Levels covered include: A-Level (AS, A2: Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC), GCSE/IGCSE (Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC), common entrance (maths, physics/science, non-verbal reasoning: 13+ and 11+), entrance and scholarship exams, undergraduate and postgraduate level.

University Spanish Tuition

As our planet becomes increasingly globalised, speaking a second language is fast becoming one of the most impressive and important attributes a student can attain. Learning Spanish at Degree level is hugely rewarding, as it gives students the coveted skill of communicating in a second language. In addition, learning Spanish allows students to cultivate a personal skill set that is sure to distinguish them from their peers as they embark upon their respective career paths. Spanish is well established as the second most widely spoken European language worldwide, and is also the second native language in America. Working with an expert Spanish tutor can make all the difference to students at this pivotal point in their academic career. Tutors can offer the necessary expertise and guidance to ensure that students are cultivating their theoretical, practical and personal skill set.

General information about studying Spanish at University

Whilst the course specifications vary depending on the University, most Spanish degrees will use the first year of study in order to give students a broad grounding in the topic, equipping students with an overview of the Spanish language and culture whilst ensuring they have cultivated the necessary Spanish speaking skills required to excel in the subsequent stages of the course. The course will generally focus on combining the acquisition and consolidation of proficiency in speaking, writing and reading in Spanish.

The latter years of study will focus on more specific topics, offering a range of optional modules alongside core modules that will equip students with an in-depth understanding of Spanish, Latin American and Hispanic culture and society. Whilst, of course, module specifics will vary depending on the course, students can expect to choose from a range of options, including variations of the following:

  • Spanish Civil War
  • Hispanic and Lusophone cinema
  • Contemporary Spanish Culture
  • Spanish Politics
  • Hispanic Society
  • Language and Identity in Spain
  • Society on Screen: the Language of Film

Students will also take compulsory modules that focus on continuing to improve their writing, reading and speaking language skills. Assessments for the course will vary, ranging from subject-specific essays to translations, essays and written and oral exams. Students will also be expected to demonstrate strong research abilities and be able to show that they can learn independently.

Most Spanish courses also integrate a year of studying abroad, during which students will spend time attending a Spanish University and interact with native Spanish speakers. Students will be expected fully immerse themselves in Spanish society and culture, developing their knowledge about Spanish culture and the Spanish political system. This year abroad is imperative in terms of improving a students language skills, with many students finding this to be the time where they really cement their speaking abilities into place.

    Tutoring FAQs

    A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

    A

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know via the in-app messenger as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability. However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson. If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

    A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

    A

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

    A

Yes, we do take a fee, but at a fraction of the rate which other companies charge. We don’t have a sign up fee for new customers, we don’t charge an introduction fee, and we don’t charge administration fees. However, we do charge a small commission which pays for the security of tutors (we meet all tutors, check their DBS certificates and ensure they are who they say there are), and the maintenance of the site. If you have any problems using the site, you can always email or call us.

    A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

Students will explore Spanish societies throughout history, broadening their intercultural awareness so as to equip them with a comprehensive and thorough appreciation of Spanish literature, linguistics and the countries in which Spanish is spoken.

Having established a base of language knowledge at GCSE and A-Level, it is during a degree course when students will start to really thrive, with most students graduating as fluent Spanish speakers. However, Spanish is also notoriously challenging to study at this advanced level, with the processes of developing expert language skills alongside cultivating in-depth knowledge about Spain and Spanish speaking countries often causing students to feel overwhelmed. Working with an expert Spanish tutor can make all the difference to students at this pivotal point in their academic career. Tutors can offer the necessary expertise and guidance to ensure that students are cultivating their theoretical, practical and personal skill set.

    Tutoring FAQs
