I am currently a student at City, University of London, studying Mathematics with Finance and Economics. Prior to entering university, I have studied in two schools in Bulgaria, which emphasized on teaching mathematics of a high level to their students and always prioritized this subject over the others. In those twelve years of primary and secondary school I have always maintained an excellent academic record.
In my twelfth year I took and received an excellent mark on a national exam in mathematics, which tests the knowledge of all 19-years-old students in the country every year and covers everything studied in math classes up to university. The reason for my success in mathematics at school so far has always been the fact that I enjoy the subject. I would truly like to help others enjoy it the way that I do and show them that mathematics can be far easier than it seems.
Having studied in Bulgaria in my past, I can offer a different approach at some things, which I think can be of great help to the students. I attended a very competitive high school where I had two exam sessions every year for five years. Those exam sessions usually involved exams on a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 10 subjects. This is why I can say with confidence that, by now, I have become very comfortable with taking exams. I believe that this experience puts me in a position of being able to share valuable skills and knowledge with students who are not that used to attending examinations.
Furthermore, I have been taught some methods, especially in mathematics, differently to the way they have been taught here in England. So, I believe a different perspective can sometimes be helpful for students to understand certain concepts before learning how to apply them.
I am young and energetic and I am really excited to pursue my recently developed passion for tutoring. I very much enjoyed learning the subject at school and I would love to help others get the same experience as mine. I am looking forward to working with people who are eager to learn. I am patient, and understanding and would love to share my knowledge with others. I am hardworking and passionate for mathematics enough to be able to be helpful and, hopefully, inspiring to the students. I have worked with kids at the ages of 7-10 and, while challenging, it was really fun for me and I think this made it fun and informative for the kids as well. In my experience, the hardest part of working with children was retaining their concentration. This is why I think taking short breaks or talking shortly about something different than the taught subject can sometimes be key for the children to learn. At the end, I managed to help those kids prepare for their end of year exams and they ended up getting good marks. I hope that in the future I will have many more similar experiences and would be able to help many more students achieve excellence.
