I was born in Manchester, England, and attended school there. Afterwards I gained a B.A. in Russian and French at Oxford University. I have recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Law. In the past 8 years I have worked as a private tutor in Moscow, Paris, Oxford and London. Many of my clients are aged 5-18, and some do not speak English as their first language. My ability to speak fluent Russian and French, along with my neutral English accent, ensure communication is clear with parents and students alike. The majority of clients wish to improve their English, but I have also provided specialist exam tuition across many subjects. Between March and May 2016, for example, I worked with a Russian-born student whose Science grades jumped from CCC in IGCSE mocks to AAB in his real IGCSE exams. In addition, I have prepared clients for IELTS, entrance exams (including 11+ and Common Entrance), school or university interviews, and helped improve personal statements and UCAS applications. If you would like to know more, then please do get in touch and I will be happy to discuss further.
My name is Marie. My tutoring style is, fun, effective, and productive. My teaching methods and styles are tailor made according to learning styles, stengths and weaknesses, and desired outcomes. I am a warm lively friendly and patient and I believe in working smarter rather than harder! I am a qualified further education teacher having had completed my teacher training stages 1 & 2 whilst teaching music business at a music college. I later went on to developing international music marketing training programmes for urban artists and producers. I gained all my special needs skills and training whilst working as a support worker in Birmingham. I am now in the process of opening my own female security training school. I have decided to tutor part time simply to help and support others with the stress and pressure of preparing for various types of study situations, or those who simply need to learn. My specialism is working with anxiety, stress, nerves, and tight deadline or high pressure situations (such as resits, concessions, etc). My tutoring subjects are according to my certified subjects of Law, Business & I.T. and any related subjects. My area of specialism is Law Tutoring, especially for exams. I gained this `knack` by having to sit all of my LLB exams back to back in the same week as in post graduate GDL style. Due to personal circumstances I have had to sit and pass my 1st 2 years in this manner, proof in the pudding being having made it to my final year after a year out. Due to my time with the Open University, I am also extremely experienced in the issues that arise from distance learning, especially the panic of falling behind and tight deadlines. My speciality in tutoring is exam stress, organisation, and revision especially within tight deadlines. I am very patient and understanding with issues such as anxiety, learning blocks, etc. I am experienced with schemes of work, lesson plans, and I have experience in further education teaching.

I am a dedicated, resourceful and goal-driven professional educator with a solid commitment to the social and academic growth and development of every individual. A resourceful team player with great interpersonal skills and ability to work with and through others. Currently a Doctorate student, specialising in Psychology. I have 7+ years experience in tuition and I am able to provide references on request. My forte is English Language and Literature (up to degree level), however I am also able to provide tuition in the following subjects: EAL/EFL, Psychology, Sociology, Essay planning, General Essay writing and proofreading. I am confident in my ability to drastically improve grades and offer not only tuition but general career advice/help with UCAS or PhD applications/effective revision techniques, guidance on time management skills and independent learning. I work on the principle that in order to gain effective results, tuition must work on the foundation of a two way street - help me to help you. In other words, I have the tools and it is my job to teach you to apply these to your perspective on learning and work in general. I like to have fun whilst learning as I have gathered that this is what captivates students` interests. This could be in the form of role play, exercises, surfing the web or even through music. Taking the lesson outside of the classroom will inject the same interest into students and allow for more meaningful learning. Passion and thirst for knowledge is never ending and I like to incorporate this philosophy into my teaching techniques. Most importantly, I incorporate critical thinking in all of my lessons with all of my students regardless of age as I feel this forms the crux of educational, personal, professional and emotional development. I graduated from UCL in 2010 with a BSc in Psychology and Pharmacology. I have also completed my MSc in Health Psychology in December 2014 and currently enrolled on a Doctorate course with a view to becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Research and academia has always been my strong point and a passion which I have not given up on since my college years particularly. I began mentoring and tutoring in English, Maths and Science after school during college with Kumon. From this I learned to create my own study and revision material tailored for specific levels. At UCL, my course opened up new ideas and opportunities for me in the area of Child/Educational Psychology and so I decided to incorporate my tuition experience into working with children who have special educational needs. By this time I had gained invaluable experience working in mainstream settings and so I joined Cambridge Education Islington on a part time basis working 5 days a week in the evenings for children from disadvantaged backgrounds alongside students who needed extra academic support. I juggled working in 3 different secondary and primary schools which was challenging and exciting at the same time as I had 30 children in one class all on different levels (KS1 to A level). I learned to always prepare material well in advance and to create my own lesson plans as well as marking and grading work on a daily basis.
I am a writer, performer and tutor. After gaining a First in English at Durham University, I lived in Belfast for a number of years, where I completed an MA and PhD in English Studies at Queen's University. During that time I lectured and convened courses at BA level and ran creative writing summer schools, while publishing my own poetry. I also developed writing courses for Arts Council Northern Ireland, working with groups of Irish Travellers, and wrote a series of family-friendly one-man storytelling shows which I have performed globally. I am now based in London where I work as a tutor across all the major exam boards, teaching students from 6-18 years old (mainly in English, but also History, Geography and Religious Studies). I am a lead tutor for Young Film Academy, which runs one-day film-making workshops at schools around the country. I also tour as a musician, releasing and performing under my own name.
Having achieved a 2:1 BA Degree in English Literature with Creative Writing, I have strongly academic discipline in English. I have also received AQA qualifications from several acting and creative writing courses that I completed at Camden Summer University. Tutoring Experience: I have been tutoring English and Maths since 2013, as well as some English Adult Learners. I have done supply work in schools, like Newberries Primary School. I have further experience of teaching drama workshops in primary schools and secondary schools, as well as often leading acting improvisation sessions at a drama group I belong to. I have further experience of Modern Hebrew tutoring. Having tutored a variety of children of various ages, I have been able to nurture a great diversity of teaching methods, in order to adapt to the different styles of learning that inspire and engage different students. I always have a very creative vision, ensuring that I am able to make learning a fun experience that guides youngsters towards independent thinking. I focus on ensuring children succeed to their full potential and that they can achieve their educational goals. For example, I tutored a GCSE student in English for two years, and saw his grade rise from a D to an A. I have shown extreme ambition and determination in running my tutoring business, inspiring youngsters with my passion for education, ensuring children succeed to their full potential. I have shown strong abilities in planning and organisation, through regularly formulating lesson plans, including doing starter games. I have strong organisational skills in completing my lessons plans, in setting homework, in providing educational resources, in marking homework. I always have a loose structure that I am also able to adapt and be flexible with that lesson plan. I have solid empathetic abilities, so I am able to relate to the needs and worries of the student, and I am considerate of their learning styles, to ensure they are able to achieve their educational goals and in order that they reach their full potential. I am able to encourage students, gaining their trust, but also able to provide constructive feedback for improvements. I focus on improvements and solutions, as opposed to problems and criticism. I am a graduate from Cambridge University, starting my masters in International Political Economy at LSE in September. I have always achieved high grades and believe that the key to success is an organised routine, good tutorship and promising work ethic. I am keen to teach others and share the skills I have gained over the years. I will always give 100% to all of my students, and am fully committed to giving them the best learning experience possible. I encourage a relaxed and friendly approach to tutoring and try to make the learning experience more holistic and productive. I believe that one of the most important focus points during tutoring sessions is building confidence ones ability, which only comes with practice. That definitely helped me a lot when I was studying at that age! I am an experienced tutor. I have taught students ranging from ages 11-18 in a number of subjects, including Geography, English and History to A Level standard as well as English and Maths to GCSE standard. I've specifically worked with a number of student to prepare them for the 11+ and the 13+ exams. I am also well equipped to help with Oxbridge preparation.
I earned my PhD in Classics many years ago, but all the while I have been teaching the subject I have continued to pursue it as a student. I have a great love of the classics. I've previously been the head of the Classics department at Queen's Gate School where I taught all Classical subjects -- Latin, Ancient Greek Ancient History and Classical Civilisation -- at all levels. I also helped students prepare for the Common Entrance examinations in Latin and Ancient Greek. I have tutored students individually over many years, including online in many different subjects including English, History and Philosophy. I walk my dog twice a day and have a keen interest in the sport of horse racing. Whether it's improving your grades or getting the most out of your studies, I'd love to help!
