Hi, my name's Billy. I am a UCL Masters Graduate in English.
I am an aspiring Secondary English teacher hoping for a place on the Teach First graduate program.
I am restless with creative approaches to passing on my knowledge and my passion for English literature, English language, and education at a wide range of levels and abilities. I have taught in schools from primary to A-level and delivered outstanding, individualised private tuition from primary, through 11+, GCSE, A-level, Undergraduate and MSc.
I have been a swimming teacher for six years, teaching all ages and abilities; really-really! 2-72!
I have a high scoring first class honours degree in English Literature from Warwick and a Masters from UCL.
Through studying and through teaching, I have learned the transformative power of literature in and out the classroom. In addition to helping students achieve their desired grades and admissions, my goal is to leave students with lifelong and lasting abilities to approach literature joyfully, confidently, and, through precise linguistic command, freely.
By instilling students with the ability to pay close attention to the device of their texts, I help students negotiate assessment and come away with crucial, transferable and unforgettable skills. By providing consistent, clear and immediate feedback in conversation and in writing, I help my students develop the self-aware and reflexive outlook possessed by great readers and great writers. I enable my students to become independent and self-efficacious learners by adopting a constantly questioning approach in lasting preparation for the challenges of their assessments and afterwards.
I am highly flexible and able to accommodate any special requests at short notice. I am able to prepare and deliver tuition on the same day if required. I can set as much or as little additional work as required by the vying demands of extra-curricular activities. I often leave students with extra-curricular reading recommendations with a view to renewing, refreshing and lateralising approaches to thinking through their studies. I will loan any books I recommend if they are in my personal library. I have access to academic articles and provide a wide range of learning resources and activities for completion during and after lessons.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, including those pertaining to education consultation such as university admissions queries. I will be delighted to answer any questions whether or not you intend to book tuition.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
