Experienced English Literature and Language tutor, also specialising in Geography, History and Psychology A-level tutoring. I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2014 with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature. I also gained the Nottingham Advantage Award and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2014. Since then, I have completed the law conversion course (GDL) at the University of Law, gaining a distinction on this course. I then went on to complete the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law and am currently awaiting my results. In regard to my tutoring experience, I started tutoring when I was 17 years old, regularly assisting two children (between 8-14 years old) with their homework and teaching one of the girls how to play the piano. I then became a part time tutor whilst I was studying at the University of Nottingham. I have tutored a variety of subjects, including English Language, English Literature, Maths and History, from primary school level up to A-level. I have worked with a variety of individuals, some who struggle with the pace of teaching that they experience at school, and others who struggle with the atmosphere and with other children within their school. I have also acted as part of a team of tutors, who provided one child with his entire educational requirements, as he was unable to be taught in any of the local schools. Alongside my position as a private tutor, I also volunteered at a local primary school in Nottingham, where I worked with children outside of the main classroom on a one-to-one basis. The abilities of each child varied considerably, with some children feeling confident doing long division/multiplication and others struggling to recite basic times tables. This meant that each session had to be carefully tailored to each individual's needs, with different techniques being used to suit each child's requirements. I am a friendly and supportive tutor, who will work with each individual pupil, using different techniques and adapting my approach in a way that best supports each individual's learning style. Having received tutoring myself in previous years, I understand how important it is to find a tutor who understands you/your child, and who offers a kind, supportive and productive learning environment.
I have graduated with a masters in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bristol and am now entering into a career of data analysis. Engineering was a combination of my two favourite subjects at school; maths and physics and gave me a greater understanding of the fields and how they can be taught. While studying for my A levels, I tutored a family friends daughter GCSE mathematics. We had lessons once a week and went over what she was being taught that week. In Mathematics it is often the "trick questions" that cause the difference between an A and an A*, so after I thought the tutee was ready with the topic I went over a few trick questions, either from the book or from previous exams, to see if they could maximise their marks from this topic. In my first year at University I tutored C1 and S1 mathematics and I approached this similarly to how I taught my previous tutee. From this experience I learnt it was always useful to have multiple ways of explaining the same theories and being able to adapt your tutoring style to the individual. I tutored for 3 months in first year but due to increased work commitments from University in my later years I was unable to carry it on, now I have finished University I am very keen to get back into it.
Film and Media expert offering support across a number of subjects. I'm an active film producer and film theorist who takes on some private tutoring work on the side. As such, I tend to only have one or two clients at a time, meaning my time with you is focused and catered towards your individual needs. I started my career in film after completing an undergraduate degree in Media Production at Northumbria University in Newcastle. Before graduating, I was already working in film production offices in the city and delivering work which won awards globally, including a BAFTA nominated feature film, I Am Nasrine (2012, dir Tina Gharavi). My experience has also seen me working with the delivery teams as part of large British film festivals, including Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest and now London Short Film Festival. Over the last 3 years I have supplemented this work by offering my services as a tutor, specialising in media studies and film. I have worked with private clients of all ages: either to support a young learner in their understanding of filmmaking skills, film history or perhaps the basics of animation, to augment a college or academy application; or working with adult learners, delivering more targeted sessions on specifics such as video editing, script writing or project management. Now based in South London, and shortly to complete an MA in Film & Screen Studies from Goldsmiths University of London, I am keen to share my expertise with new clients via Tutorhouse. I'm happy to discuss possibilities and opportunities with anyone whose curious to know more, and create a tuition plan which works best for you
