I'm a secondary English teacher currently teaching years 7 -11 and can help with anything from everyday homework to GCSEs. I have a degree from the University of Mississippi in secondary English, EAL and history in the United States and have taught in America, Australia and England. I really have a passion for reading and absolutely love finding creative ways to help students comprehend literature or remember the rules of grammar. I have tutored for about 2 years and absolutely love getting to know students while helping them get the marks they deserve and bringing out the best in their GCSEs!
My career path saw me begin with a business degree and working for Siemens South Africa. Leaving for Europe, I worked and lived in Germany, where I was happy to use my language skills and teach children English (from the age of three and upwards) as well as help with homework and exam preparation for all levels. Furthermore, I worked at a language institute where I tutored Business English. Upon returning to South Africa in 2007, I was privilege to carry on studying my teachers post graduate certificate in Education (PGCE) full time for a year and then followed that up with a two year B Education (Honours) part time. There after I continued at a training company where I trained clients in soft skill development. I then went back into tutoring English literacy to 1st year students as well as Business English. My final position was working for a South African University where we focused on soft skills professional development for teachers to help them improve their content knowledge; taught them new teaching and learning strategies and introduced them to technology that could be integrated into classroom practice. I do not mind teaching face-2-face or online as long as the student feels comfortable working with me and of course has lots of fun in the process - whether young or old. My motto is : lifelong learning is something we need to embrace. The last thing you will learn, is that last breathe you will take...
Hi everyone, I'm Ruth and I've always loved exploring Art and Textiles. I studied Art and Design and Textiles at GCSE and continued to experiment and pursue the Arts with Photography and Graphics at A-Level. Until finally, I studied Fashion and Textiles at Winchester school of Art, specialising in Woven Textiles! Now, I enjoy sharing my passion and enthusiasm in these subjects with others, as I believe that anyone can be creative! I have been a teacher for 4 years now and have a Secondary PGCE in Design and Technology. I currently teach 11-18 year olds Art, Photography and Textiles at a secondary school in London. This has given me experience in teaching a diverse range of students of different ages, abilities and backgrounds. During my lessons at school, I use positive encouragement and constructive feedback of students work, creating a fun and safe learning environment where students and their ideas flourish. I understand that not every student is the same and working on a one-to-one basis I am able to tailor my teaching to suit their individual needs. Ultimately, I hope to help students make achievements that they are proud of, as everyone should be given equal opportunities. I enjoy building the confidence of my students, getting them to embrace their mistakes and learn to adapt and grow from them. I believe that my patience, understanding and resilience in teaching enables me to help my students meet the outcomes and aspirations they have for their futures. My favourite thing about Textiles and Art is that there are endless possibilities and outcomes to experimenting and exploring the subjects. Through combining techniques and materials sometimes your biggest mistakes can be the best outcomes, the most fulfilling and rewarding! My hobbies include going to exhibitions and keeping up-to date with new techniques, courses, trends and ideas, so that I can feed this inspiration back to my students. And spending time outside cycling and walking my Springer Spaniel Buster! Hoping to start our creative journey together soon, Ruth
