With over 6 years of experience as a tutor in the UK, France and Spain, working with students aged 5-25, I have developed a strong understanding of the different needs of students, at various levels. I am proud to say that all my students have achieved significant progress. Notably, I have been teaching two home-schooled GCSE students for a year and helped them achieve much better results than they had anticipated. I am passionate about langue-learning and I would describe my approach to tutoring as flexible. I believe that a good tutor should be able to work closely with their students to identify their strengths and weaknesses. This then allows the tutor to teach in a manner that suits the student best. I strongly believe that learning an additional language is something highly beneficial and that everyone is capable of it when provided with the right tools. Finally, I try to make teaching engaging by making sure that my students get to discuss topics they are interested in. In my opinion, a good balance between theoretical and practical work is key to ensure that the teaching is enjoyable and of high-quality.
I am currently tutoring the children of high profile families here in Qatar. I have enjoyed working with children of all ages and helping them to make progress. I pride myself as being patient, enthusiastic, dedicated and I have a good understanding of the needs and abilities of the students that I have taught both here in Qatar and in the UK. I would describe myself as a warm, fun loving and hardworking individual, organized and professional with a wealth of educational experience that I could apply to the role of Tutor. I started to work with children in 1997 when I worked for the County Music Service in Cumbria. I gained work at Dallam High School in addition to several other schools and the Dallam suggested that I teach in the classroom. I pursued a PGCE at Edgehill University and successfully qualified in 2010. I then left the UK to join my husband in Qatar. I worked at Gulf English School for five years in key stage 1,2,3 and 4 as a specialist teacher and was promoted to music co-ordinator with a department of three teachers following a British curriculum. After this post I gained employment at the International School of London on a part time basis, teaching cover work (English, maths) and specialist subjects to an IB curriculum. I am currently working as a private tutor and I enjoy working with my students and helping them with their homework in maths, English and science. I tutor the son of the CEO of Qatar National bank and the niece of the Emir of Qatar, the Royal family. In addition to my degree and PGCE I have an extensive musical background which could nurture any child’s interest and ability in music; I also have vast experience of special educational needs understanding (my son is 19 years of age and is Autistic with Aspergers). I enjoy teaching and I can offer a vibrant, friendly and nurturing personality that would be a perfect fit for young students. I am highly experienced and enjoy the one to one flexibility of this type of role. Children can so easily be lost amidst a system of education; I can offer a personal and empathetic emphasis to the role of tutor, having taught ESL and EAL students for the last eight years here in Qatar.
Following an extensive career in the media business and having spent the last five years as a post graduate mentor, I now enjoy using my skills to coach, mentor and tutor Business and Psychology related subjects. I have a particular interest in the way strategy, operations and organisational culture drive business transformation. My aim is to help my students to fulfil their potential. I approach this by blending my business and people management background with tutoring expertise to explore how business models and theories are practically applied to today's markets and economic conditions. I often use SMART objectives to mirror the realities of how business's plan for success and draw on a range of creative study techniques I developed during my own Masters Degree. This enables me to design specific and individual plans for each students unique requirements. The resources, case studies and teaching tools I use, include Tutor2u guides and exam style questions, Henley Business School materials and other relevant resources. Above all else I want my students to feel a positive step change in their understanding and enjoyment of their chosen subject. One which stays with them through exams and into the application of their knowledge in their emerging careers.
