As a Teaching Assistant, I am committed to raising attainment and I aim to develop learning by listening to my students needs and adapt to their learning style. I identify my students’ strengths and weakness of a topic and from there I can develop a targeted approach to meet their needs, ensuring that they grasp the basic concepts before I introduce them to more complex concepts. I have helped students I tutor to gain a better understanding of the subject which was evident when they independently corrected their mistakes of their baseline assessments. I am passionate about helping young people to maximise their potential and succeed in life which led me to volunteer as a Maths GCSE tutor for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. I previously worked as a Molecular and Immunoassay Scientist but having volunteered for an Education NGO in 2017, I found that helping young people with their Education strongly resonated with me. Since then, I have gathered experience as a Teacher Assistant at primary and secondary mainstream schools as well as primary special needs schools which has enabled me to become familiar with the National Curriculum.
I am a BSc Mathematics student at the University of Surrey. I am currently in my second year of studies and have completed Maths and Further Maths at A level. I am from Milan, Italy and moved here 4 years ago to complete sixth form college. I have had experience working with children (ages 6-14) at my local church in Milan. I am only now starting to give private tutor lessons, however, I have had experience teaching my three younger siblings ages 9 and 18, therefore I am comfortable when working with children of all ages, helping them to achieve results showing the best of their abilities. Additionally, I have lead a number of study groups with my fellow coursemates everyone, including myself, have achieved First Class honours in the first year of university.
I have been a primary school teacher for the past 8 years, working in London and have taught all ages from reception to year 6. I was Head of Maths for a few years. I’m a big believer of concrete and real life application before abstract methods. Then I turned to reading, developing a programme with United Learning for early reading, phonics for mainstream and SEND and created holistic curriculums with reading at the centre. I teach phonics first and fast but then use real books to promote reading. I can teach groups or individuals in Maths or English and I have experience in teaching children with different educational needs.
