I am very enthusiastic about helping students through repetition, constant encouragement and in finding different ways to covey hard-to-grasped ideas, to understand and make progress in subject areas they might initially regarded as challenging. I am very keen to pick up where students are in their understanding of any aspect of the mathematics or biology curricula and through linking ideas already familiar to them, to patiently guide and inspire them to achieve a strong sense of mastery that they too can feel proud of. Being employed as a Senior Biomedical Scientist for over 12 years, has given me insights/ awareness into the role/ utility that many of the fundamentals covered in subject curricula play in allowing students to fully grasped more advanced concepts that will be introduced as they grow older; I take great pleasure in helping them to ‘join up their dots’ as I believe the more they understand and weave together now, the easier the facts they are required to know will be remembered.

Tutoring sciences and maths, teaching music at Gordonstoun International Summer School and industry-based mentoring give a fresh perspective to adapting to different student styles. Developing confidence and knowledge simultaneously gives students the best chance of achieving their full potential. My tutoring style is completely student orientated, focusing on a positive attitude towards study and building a rounded knowledge base. After studying Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, I worked internationally as a field engineer in the energy industry (Mexico, Argentina and the UAE). Understanding where education can take you is an important part of maximising students potential and ensuring students achieve their goals. One of my previous students struggled to get through the mental block of 'being bad at chemistry'. We worked through this allowing her to approach her GCSE-level exam with a confident attitude and achieve the grade she deserved. Teaching violin while at home in Scotland, I worked with students from 6 years old upwards, often developing their playing from complete beginners to having a good grasp of musical notation and playing simple tunes. With a diploma in violin performance and having taken part in and led orchestras while growing up, I am passionate about helping others progress and grow this skill. As well as a love of music, I enjoy tennis, squash and hockey in my spare time. Experience - Tutoring maths and science (students between 15-18 years) - Violin teaching (beginner to advanced students, age 6+) - Vocal specialist and staff assistant, Gordonstoun International Summer School - Industry-based mentoring, working with trainees to develop their skills and knowledge

Hi, my name is Luke and I am a graduate from UCL with a degree in Math. I have been building up my math tutoring experience throughout my studies since A-level. I helped my friends, classmates and family members understand complex or new mathematical terms and concepts by simplifying and explaining the logic behind them. When people approach me with math problems, I always think from their perspective to find out the gap in their understanding. Then I can better help them in learning and comprehending the logic and principles of maths. Furthermore, whenever I learn a new operator or concept, such as Laplacian operator or divergence, I prefer to understand their geometrical meaning and intuitive interpretation. I believe this approach will inspire my candidates and stimulates their interests in maths and physics. Regarding exams, practice to apply the logic and principles to solve problems is indispensable. I am good at summarising techniques and practical methods to help others crack maths problems. Practice using these methods with me is easy to get started and to follow in their studies. By understanding maths and practising solving problems with me, tutees can improve their proficiencies in solving maths problems and therefore improving performance at exams. Patience is one of my biggest strengths, and I tailor my lessons to the needs and personality of each tutee and help them succeed. I have a natural passion for teaching and tutoring interactively and intuitively.
