I am a hardworking 3rd year medical student at UCL with previous tutoring experience in Maths and science. I am available to tutor immediately and happy to teach on weekday evenings and weekends. I will adapt my style of teaching based on the student, giving tutees an individual approach to learning based on what works best for them. I have used this approach previously and have found it to be very effective. I aim to focus on developing good exam technique as this can often drastically improve grades. From the first lesson I will try and work out what areas need to be focused on and will integrate learning exam technique into the lessons. I believe that focusing on approaching questions that are not too straightforward is also a great way of getting higher marks. I have found that this can be a struggle for many students that are not quite reaching top grades. I am also able to help with university application, especially to Medicine. The application process can be stressful however my personal experience on applying to Medicine may be very helpful. I have helped many of my peers with their applications by perfecting their personal statements, building their experience, assisting with the UKCAT/BMAT and helping them with interview skills.

I am a first year undergraduate at the University of Oxford studying Mathematics and Philosophy with A*A*A*A at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Ancient Greek and Physics as well as a 1 in STEP 2 and 11 A*s at GCSE. During my last year at school, I tutored pupils from the local area as well as fellow students at my school which I really enjoyed. One of the pupils who I tutored subsequently got into Hampton School at 10+. As someone who is closer in age to my tutees, I am able to develop a connection with students and thereby better approach their learning. Tutoring for me is immensely enjoyable and rewarding. Away from academic studies I also have a keen interest in music and drama - I play the piano, trumpet and guitar and regularly get involved with plays.

I have tutored in mathematics since I was studying my GCSE's. At the time it was the way I revised. Now it's a way to reconnect with my favourite subject and pass along my knowledge. I love maths, and I want to share this with those that need my help. I have found that sometimes, when one is learning maths in school, they find it frustrating, boring or dull because the teacher isn't teaching them individually, to their learning style, so they don't understand it. They give up. I want to help students find the fun in maths, or at least help them understand it. In class, there is no time to ask why numbers act in a certain way, it's all about memorising the rules. But sometimes, people don't learn it that way or can't remember it that way. I've always asked the 'why' which means I can explain it when a student needs it. With each person I've tutored, I've done it slightly differently. Not everyone has the same learning styles. Some students can't concentrate for too long, one of the students I had was like this. I broke the lesson up, gave them a game, talked about something irrelevant, just to give them a break so that they can work more effectively. Another student was really enthusiastic, we would work for 2 hours non-stop. She learnt through diagrams and colours, so I spent a little extra time getting her to note it down in a way she would remember, or I would explain with different colour pens and highlighters. Other students just wanted different explanations to things. I like to cater to the student so they get the most out of the lesson. And if there is something even I don't understand fully, I go away and learn it, understand it, so I can teach it properly in the next lesson.

Tutoring FAQs

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate before their profile goes live on the Tutor House site. We do in-house DBS checks, which means we get DBS done very quickly. If a tutor’s DBS certificate is not validated or has expired then their profile will taken down until a new DBS certificate is issued. Although this is completely over to the tutor to notify us when it has expired. Once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date. A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Tutor House performs a background check, and a police checks. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults, before their profiles go live. The DBS replaced the CRB.

A

After selecting your tutor for your desired material, you can book a lesson right away! Send an inquiry to your selected Tutor and once a tutor accepts your inquiry, it will be registered as an ‘open enquiry’ within your messages tab. This is where you will be able to communicate with our tutors, discuss your requirements, arrange lesson times, and book and pay for lessons. When you submit your booking request, the credit card details provided will be subject to an authorisation hold (to the total amount agreed with the tutor for the cost of the initial session and for any other lessons which will take place thereafter). Not only that, but you can also rate and review your tutor once you’ve had your lesson! Tutor House values your feedback.

A

While you think it is faster it elevates your risk and you use lose all the benefits of Tutor House policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected. If you do pay a tutor outside of the Tutor House website you will not be protected by our 48 Hour Cancelation Policy, our Disputes Policy or our Refund Policy. We also can not protect you from fraud or spam accounts. Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our Terms and Conditions. Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter. Tutor House is designed to introduce excellent tutors to customers putting tutors in touch with students and learners. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience. If you use the Tutor House website you must complete all bookings within the online platform, including the arrangement of any other services provided by tutors for clients. A

Finding a tutor with Tutor House is fast, simple, and secure. Our online tutoring platform helps you find, message and book tutors within a few clicks. Simply enter your required subject with the level and your location, and our website will return a list of recommended tutors. You can then filter these tutors according to experience, price, and recommendation. Each tutor has a detailed profile with a personal statement and details about their qualifications and teaching experience.

A

Once you have found tutors which fit your criteria you can send an enquiry to them straight away. You’ll need to register with Tutor House before you can contact tutors (this is to order to ensure that you are protected by our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy). To send an enquiry to your selected tutor(s) add them to your enquiry list and confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. If you are a new user you will then be asked to register. If you are a returning user you will be prompted to sign into your account. Once signed in you will need to fill out your enquiry details and teaching requirements before sending your message to your selected tutors. After the enquiry has been sent we will contact you within 48 hours. If your tutor of choice has not replied within this time we will either contact them on your behalf or put you in touch with another of our highly experienced tutors.

A

Yes, we operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Our policy protects both tutor and customer. You can cancel your booking without incurring any charges as long as it’s cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place. However, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount. If there is an unforeseen circumstance, then both the tutor and Tutor House will discuss this with you. In some situations lessons can be rescheduled (free of charge), but this is at the tutor’s discretion.

A

By default, when searching for a tutor you will be shown the nearest tutors to your location. Travelling longer distances may incur additional travel costs; however the tutor will inform you if this is the case, and any travel costs can be mutually agreed before the lesson is booked. Most tutors would expect to travel up to 45 minutes to get you, at no extra cost. If there are additional charges the tutor will make you aware of that. You can always ask the tutor for online lessons if there is the possibility of travel costs being added to the costs of your lessons. Most of our Tutors infact use Skype and can carry out lessons online with no additional cost. Sometimes online courses is the perfect answer.

A

Once you have made the lesson request, you can communicate with the tutor. You can discuss your tuition requirements and the lesson timing with in-app instant messaging. The messaging is instant, so your tutor will receive the notification via both; the website and email. Hence he or she can respond to immediately. You may wish to discuss your preferred lesson time and date, or discuss which exam board you’re studying for A-levels and GCSE’s, or even to discuss specific text and books which you are currently studying. Also, You can communicate with the tutor with the instant in-app messaging at any point (before or after the booking has been made). Please note that it is possible for you and the tutor to mutually agree to booking changes after this stage. This must be done within the messenger app on the website. You can also use the same means of comunication to find out more about the tutor, after you have requested a booking. In addition to this you can always check the tutors reviews and ranking.

A

Booking and paying for private tuition has never been easier! As a customer, you’ll need to add your credit or debt card details to your profile after you sign in. You can pay the tutor directly and securely through the Tutor House website. However, if you do pay outside of the Tutor House site, you will not be protected by our 48 hour Cancelation Policy, nor our Disputes or Refunds Policy, we also do not guarantee that you’ll be protected from fraud. You will then receive a confirmation email notifying you of the hours completed with the tutor. The email will also confirm the date and time that the lesson(s) took place. Payment will be automatically processed by Tutor House’s Payment Service Provider (PSP). We do not charge you a joining fee or an administration fee, instead we allow you to interact with your chosen tutor directly. You pay the tutor online using a debit or credit card, with your booking being secure and private. Our tutors get paid on the same day of the lesson, so please make sure that you’ve confirmed the lesson before your tutor arrives. Of course! We use Stripe as our third party payment platform. Stripe are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issued refunds without any cost to you. (But only if you pay through the website, please see our terms).

A

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example if the tutor was 30 minutes late they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson. If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you. If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via disputes@tutorhouse.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.
