Hi! My name is Anahita, and I have a degree in BSc Hons Biological Sciences (Microbiology and Infectious Disease) from the University of Exeter. I have a strong background in IB Biology, Chemistry, Maths, English and French. I have always been passionate about science, and it is a subject I particularly like teaching. I am currently teaching GCSE Science and Maths to a number of students, and really enjoying this. I'm currently working full-time with a homeschooled student, teaching her science and maths GCSE. She is doing very well, and showing good process.
I have a lot of experience with both undergraduate and graduate medical admissions, having taken and scored highly on both the UKCAT and GAMSAT, and having received more than one offer for Medicine. I also have experience in medical personal statements, as well as Multiple Mini Interviews. I would like to help students both in school subjects, and aspiring medics.
I personally believe that the structure of tutorials should be specific to the student. I would take the time to find out what each student's strengths and weaknesses are, and work accordingly to this. Before each session, I would ask the student what they would like to cover and make a lesson plan accordingly. Additionally, if I feel that there are areas over time that need to be covered, I will also discuss these points with the student and make sure that we are both on the same page. I enjoy using each session to drive the student to think beyond the subject academically- by allowing them to link their knowledge to real life, I find that this way there is a deepened understanding of the subject. By asking questions at different intervals through the session, I would gain an awareness of how much the student has absorbed. This would also be followed up in subsequent sessions, where I would spend the first 5 minutes reviewing the past session. I would also end each session by summarising the learning from the day, and finding out what the student would like to focus on in the next session.
Outside of academics, I particularly enjoy swimming, yoga and volunteering! I'm enthusiastic and I love working with and helping younger students. I look forward to nurturing young minds!
