I am currently in the second year of my PhD in pure mathematics at the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (Imperial, UCL, and King's). Before that, I was an undergraduate at the University of Queensland, Australia, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours Class I with an extended major in Mathematics. I also have a Diploma of Languages majoring in German, and spent a year of my undergraduate degree studying in Munich. As an undergraduate, I gained a variety of experience from both private tutoring and teaching in university environments for students ranging from high school to undergraduate level. Before I began university I did a gap year working for a prep school in Surrey, where I primarily helped students between the ages of 8 and 13 who were struggling in class and/ or being disruptive. I also helped prepare students for the 11 and 13+ exams. I believe that mathematics is an under-appreciated discipline, and I have a passion for teaching maths in an intuitive and relatable way that applies real-world examples. I have ample experience in communicating complicated ideas to students of all abilities and in guiding students to their own understanding.
I am a German native speaker with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Arts in Theatre Pedagogy. Further, I hold a Montessori Certificate. I taught and examined the German GCSE in the 2017 examinations with a very good track record and have over six years of experience. Personally, I want to create a safe and inspiring room, for the academic and personal development of the students to enable them to reach their full potential. The Montessori teaching methods allow for a very personal approach to teaching and learning in all subjects and I can model exercises on the personal and education needs of every tutee. Material, which is created specifically for the individual, facilitates greater academic advancement and the development of personal confidence. My tutoring of German and preparation for GCSE/A-Level include the full extent of the four assessment criteria: Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading. For every tutee I create my own exercises and material, which I base on the level and skill of the student and which follow the requirements from the examination boards. For over five years as an after school supervisor and teaching assistant in Germany I also was responsible for the supervision of one classroom for the homework and daily revision to aid the students in their learning and to provide additional assistance. In this capacity I supported students across all subjects with a particular focus on English, German, History and Math. The students attended Year 5 to 10 and all of them achieved very good results in their respective exams. Through this time I developed a great capacity for empathy and a understanding of those students struggling with learning a foreign language and the challenges they face. My work as a Drama teacher for Years 5 and 6 involved the teaching of the basics of acting, theatre theories and to provide a fundamental understanding of Drama. I supported the students to develop their own understanding of stagecraft and created a room for the discovery of their personal creativity and confidence which also involved the creation of my own exercises to improve body language and speech.
I am a native German speaker from Hamburg. My teaching is always tailored to suit each student's individual needs and all my A level and GCSE students have been awarded A or A*. I have a great passion for both learning and teaching and love being a tutor, especially seeing the progress my students make. I believe people learn best when they are interested in the subject they are studying therefore I ensure I create a good rapport with my pupils and that my lessons are interactive and individually tailored to their needs. With GCSE and A level students I also ensure there is strong exam focus and we always work through several mock exams thus building confidence and reducing stress. Pronunciation is especially important in German so it is helpful that I am from Hamburg, which means that I speak “Hochdeutsch” (German without a dialect). I always got great feedback. My clients tell me that I am very passionate, engaging and patient and that I make learning fun whilst following an ambitious study programme, which ensures fast progress and good exam results.

Hello / hallo zusammen! I'm Helena, I am a tutor and professional actor based in central London. Prior to training as an actor, I studied German Literature at Oxford University, where I obtained a 2.1. My A-Levels were French, History, German and English Literature in which I ranked top 20 in the UK. I have tutored students in the capacity of GCSE - Sixth Form classroom assistant, 1:1 and as a private tutor for Oxbridge Applications. My teaching ethos in my core subjects English Literature and German, as well as secondary subject, revolves around the principle that once you know 'why' you will know 'how'. I encourage my students in their independent learning focussing on providing individually tailored support that enables the student to help themselves, be it for the purpose of life-long learning or excelling in exams. I am available on a flexible basis to support one-off to long-term tutoring needs. Helena

I have tutored a number of people, both in and outside of school. Having taken French, German, English and History at A-Level and Spanish at AS-Level, this was largely in humanities. Having said that, I also enjoy tutoring Sciences and Maths up until GCSE. I have experience teaching a range of age groups, ranging from 11-year olds to my own contemporaries, struggling in their A-level subjects.
