Kevin Joseph Hiscutt
From 1978 to 1981, I served in the Australian Permanent Army in Signals Intelligence in Toowoomba. Then from 1983 - 1987, I was a seminarian with the Marist Fathers, a Roman Catholic Order of priests in Sydney.
Since 1990, I have been a fully-trained primary school educator. Upon graduation, I was a self-employed contract English and mathematics private tutor whilst being a full-time learning difficulties support teacher and classroom teacher in several independent and governmental mainstream school systems, in Sydney.
I continued private tutoring, whilst moving into full-time Autism/Asperger's teaching, with the Australian Public Benevolent Institution, Autism Spectrum Australia in Sydney from 2001 to 2008. I was part of their evidence-informed schools' program, being the World's largest provider of its kind. Then from 2009 to 2016, I was a special educational needs and disability teacher in two British-international private schools in the State of Qatar.
Now in Greater Manchester, England, I have had longer-term, full-time independent school appointments. Last year, I privately tutored an upper-secondary care-home student with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties in a special school. Then following on in another longer-term appointment, I privately tutored a lower-primary foster-child in a mainstream religious school. Both these students developed emotional self-regulation and positive academic self-concepts. I also privately educate in-person and online nationally and globally.
For over 10 years, I studied at four Australian tertiary institutions. As noted, I am a primary school (BEd Primary) and Inclusion (MEd Autism) teacher. At Sydney University’s Department of Educational Measurement, Psychology and Technology (MEd), I studied Education under the late Associate Professor and Fulbright Scholar, Dr Raymond Debus, PhD. I am a Theology and Philosophy (BTh) graduate.
Professionally, I have completed at least seven UK, USA and Australian English in-service teaching courses, such as England’s Read Write Inc and North America’s Orton-Gillingham. In Sydney hospitals, I completed several intensive Clinical Pastoral Education supervised counselling courses. I have specialist teacher assessment certification CL2R with Pearson UK. I author, publish and distribute my own 28-day home-school multiplication primary tables program, ‘Speed It Up’.
For several years in Eastern Australia, I had private piano lessons and completed many examinations to intermediate level, Grade 4. I studied Pianoforte with Trinity College London and Musicianship with the Australian Music Examinations Board.
