Music - Theory with Haniell L

I have taught music in a variety of situations: privately, one-to-one, in small groups and in a school; to students aged 11 to 60; taught theory, music history, guitar, bass, composition and tutored students taking GCSE and A-level examinations.

Above all else I think it is important to help students become engaged with music on a personal level; to help them figure out what areas of music inspire them; and to build a vocabulary by understanding music theory. I believe the best way to find success in any form of music exam is to first find personal enjoyment.

My passion is music history and music theory: I can talk about these enthusiastically until the cows come home, and I hope this enthusiasm is infectious. Music became my favourite subject when I was studying it at GCSE level, and my goal is to share the fascination and joy it has brought to me with students, young and old alike. Music remains my favourite subject.

I began playing guitar when I was 8, earned my grade 8 distinction from Rockschool when I was 17, an A* in A-level music at 18, and a degree in music from King's College London when I was 22. I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Musicology from King's College London.
