Success Stories: A-Level Results Day

August 17, 2022
A-Levels

It’s A-level results day tomorrow, and GCSE results day next week. While you may be in store for a restless night in anticipation of what grades you’ll get, it's important that you know that whatever your results are, does not define your ending.

And guess what? We have proof! Even if you don’t get the grades you were hoping for, the success stories from our students and their parents teach you not to give up on your dreams.

Impressive results

Over the last 10 years Tutor House has seen some remarkable results from their A-level students. Especially last year, when there was a lot of scepticism around A-levels and how they will work. Yvonne and her daughter are an example of that; she wanted to make sure her daughter was able to reach her full potential, particularly in her French A-level. She invested in private tuition to tackle key issues in her daughter’s studies. As well as this, her daughter received helpful UCAS application advice through us.This all led to her achieving her best grades and securing a spot in the university of her choice. Well done!

Edward’s son also managed to achieve top grades in his English Literature A-level with the help of Tutor House and our brilliant and experienced tutor, Bill. Bill helps his students understand, appreciate and enjoy learning about literature, which really helped Edward’s son in his studies. Come results day, they all had a good reason to celebrate!

Second time’s the charm

While you may be disappointed you didn’t get the grades you needed the first time round, all hope is not lost. Arshee missed out on a place on her dentistry course and instead opted into a year-long A-level retake course with Tutor House. Together the team worked on getting Arshee’s knowledge and grades to where they should be and Arshee ended up beginning her studies in dentistry the next year.

George also unfortunately didn’t get the grades he wanted the first time round of completing his A-levels. Working with the Tutor House team as well as his fantastic tutor Inez, George was able to focus on his exam technique and confidence in the lead up to his retake exam. Not only this, George got personal statement support from Tutor House and ended up accepting an unconditional offer from the University of Birmingham.

Another great turn-around story was Hamssy’s. He was finding it difficult to experience a subject he was truly passionate about until he began improving his A-level chemistry skills with us. Hamssy then realised he actually really enjoyed learning about chemistry, thanks to the knowledge and enthusiasm of his tutor. He went from receiving D grades in chemistry to and is expected to receive an A* on his retake. He may not potentially study chemistry further.

There's another route

Nevertheless if school just wasn’t your vibe, and university isn’t the path for you, there are many under-rated options for students that don't involve getting top grades in your studies.

Apprentices are a great way to learn useful job-specific skills that can kick-start your career. There are many different opportunities for students that have just finished their A-levels, from working in animal care to making your way up in the world of business, publishing or media (read our opinion piece to find out what we think).

Students can also choose to take a gap year instead, either to work or travel. This is the perfect opportunity to take a break from a hard year of studying and refresh. Having a productive gap year where you gain valuable work experience can look great on your CV. If you are looking to explore another country and develop your language skills we have some great language learning opportunities for you too.

Over to you!

So, yes, it's natural to be nervous for your A-level results days, but we hope that these success stories will give you a boost of confidence no matter the outcome. Share with us your successes and get in touch if you need any advice on next steps. We are happy to help.
