At present in my early 50s. I began teaching, in a London tutorial college, straight after coming down from Oxford. A few years after that, I interrupted my teaching career to return to university to pursue doctoral research, but I continued to see a small number of private students throughout my time as a post-graduate student. Accordingly, I have somewhere in the region of thirty years’ experience of helping students to realise their potential and, quite often, to exceed their expectations of themselves. My original specialisms were English Language and Literature, and these remain subjects I enjoy teaching immensely, but I have equal experience by now in History of Art, Philosophy, Film Studies, and Religious Studies, each of which I have taught to A level students and undergraduates. I also specialise in Pre-U English. The following is a quotation from the reference supplied by the school from which I resigned last year, after twenty years as Head of English and de facto Head of Humanities, in order to focus on private tuition: ‘Bill’s main virtues as a teacher […] are his infectious enthusiasm for his subjects, his immense knowledge and erudition, his intimate familiarity with past papers and assessment criteria, his commitment to his pupils, his willingness to make supererogatory efforts on their behalf, his provision of extensive and meticulous course notes, and his generosity with his time.’

My name is Samuel and I graduated from Cambridge University in 2007 with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering. In addition to this, I hold a Professional Tutoring Certificate (Distinction awarded) and I am a fully qualified teacher too. I have a passion for teaching/tutoring Mathematics and Sciences (mostly Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to GCSE and A-level students. I have mentored and tutored students from an assorted array of backgrounds since 2002, helping some to get to Oxbridge and Ivy League universities and helping them with interview preparations when requested. My teaching journey started in 2002 when I took a year out working as an assistant/support teacher actively involved in mentoring, lesson planning and marking. I take pride in having been commended for my teaching style where I always ensure to explain everything in the simplest of manners and take an approach that most suits the student to bring out their best effort. After graduating from Cambridge, I went on to seek professional employment as a graduate engineer but never left my passion for teaching. I therefore volunteered as a STEM ambassador where I shared my passion for Science and Mathematics to students from various backgrounds. I continue to take utmost joy and pleasure in tutoring and helping students attain their full potential; and in this regard, I can assure any prospective students that they’ll be getting the most out of their time and money whilst paving way for a bright future.

I recently graduated from Cambridge with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences and would love to share my passion for learning with others by supporting students to achieve their full potential. During my time as a UCAS tutor, I was able to clearly explain advanced scientific concepts by adjusting my teaching methods to suit the unique learning style of each student and applied my TEFL qualification to support English second language students, all of whom went on to receive offers from Russell Group Universities. Whilst tutoring an 11-year-old boy in Maths, he raised his average grade from a C to an A. Having been elected as the Welfare Officer for the Cambridge University Water Polo Team, I emphasise the importance of mental health and aim to promote the emotional wellbeing of all my students. My pet Labrador Goldie may also make occasional drop-ins in the background of tutoring sessions to provide a little well-needed dopamine. :)

Hello, my name is Lavan and I am currently a postgraduate studying for a PhD in Computational Chemistry at University College London (UCL). My methods of teaching vary from student to student as I cater towards their individual styles of learning. That being said, the one thing I do emphasise to all my students is that understanding the topics is much more important than just to solely memorise something. This is achieved by starting from the very basics and building from there, whilst simultaneously giving them structured methods which make it easy to remember crucial things from each topic. A typical lesson would be as follows: ●;;;; We start by going through any doubts from the homework that was set from the previous lesson. ●;;;; This is followed by teaching the next topic (new content) – emphasising key points that are highlighted on the specification. ●;;;; Next, we work through questions from various textbooks. To begin with, there would be guidance for each question and by the end of the lesson my students will attempt the question with minimal help from me. ●;;;; Finally, we go through any remaining doubts that have arisen throughout the lesson or any problems that need to be clarified from their school or university. Closer towards the exams my efforts would be focused towards two crucial skills. The first being exam technique and the second being timing. The approach I take for this is by going through multiple past papers and mock tests. This helps me to understand where my students need to improve and thus where to focus my attention for the upcoming lessons. In addition to this, I give my students tips and tricks that I have developed over my time as a student. I love teaching and especially teaching the sciences, so let me help your child truly excel in their subjects.

I'm currently a PhD student in Psychology at the University of Birmingham and have previously studied at the University of Cambridge where I completed a research-based Masters degree in Psychology. I have over 6 years experience in tutoring pupils and university students in Psychology (including statistics and research methods), German (my native language), and Spanish (bilingual proficiency). I have also taught a variety of students online for over 2 years now and feel confident that this format can work well for building a positive learning environment. I always aim for students to feel confident and happy at the end of a lesson, which I believe is just as important subject knowledge. I have in-depth knowledge of the UK GCSE and A Level curriculum in Psychology, Spanish and German (AQA, OCR, Edexcel) and use up-to-date past exam papers to guide my teaching where relevant. Drawing on my experience from successfully publishing in academic journals, I also offer advanced feedback on dissertations or other project work at undergraduate and graduate degree level. In addition, I offer proofreading and individualised feedback to personal statements for university admissions. I plan my lessons to include small pieces of information and intermittent learning goals, balancing explanations with giving students opportunities for applying and practicing the newly learnt information. To ensure continuous progress, my lessons usually start with a quiz or a quick recap of the previous lesson’s content. If desired, I provide students with further useful materials to be completed independently in between lessons. Where possible, I like to connect study material to real life examples that students can relate to. I’ve observed that when seeing the personal relevance of the subject matter, students have often shown significant learning progress, motivation and understanding. I always welcome questions and feedback. I’m very much looking forward to continue working with a range of different students!

I am a professional musical educator, historian, and performer based in the UK. I graduated from Cambridge University with a MA in Music, before postgraduate study in Clarinet Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where I graduated with highest honours and the prestigious DipRAM. I balance a high-profile performing career with educational posts at Merchant Taylors' School, Hertfordshire and the Royal Academy of Music, London, where I teach music history, theory, aural skills, analysis and university interview preparation, as well as online tutoring on a freelance basis. I am also experienced in proof-reading, editing and coaching students in writing, providing feedback for extended pieces of work such as dissertations, academic theses and personal statements, regardless of the subject of specialisation. In my teaching practice I always endeavour to pass on my enthusiasm for the craft of music to all my students, irrespective of age or ability. My teaching ranges from near-beginner to diploma/advanced level. For my younger/lower-level students I try to create a rounded approach that focuses on fun and freedom to explore, treating each aspect of their musical study as feeding into the others rather than being discrete elements. I try to always use a piece of music as the starting point for a new topic or piece of information, rather than introducing them as abstract ideas. With my advanced students I encourage them to penetrate deeper into the music that they are studying; to consider and discover aspects of music history and context; to broaden their listening and musical experiences to include a variety of different genres and styles. Whether the student be at a beginner or advanced level, I try to tailor the programme and pace of study to each student's needs, rather than being governed by examination schedules and syllabuses. If my students show an interest in a particular style, genre, composer or artist, or perhaps if I believe that a specific piece, melody or song will most effectively open the door to a new topic or area of study, I will try to incorporate those into my tuition. Being a freelancer requires a high level of organisation and time management, and I rigorously apply these principles to every aspect of my professional life. Keeping detailed records of a pupil's progress and trajectory is very important, as is maintaining active lines of communication via the relevant procedures.

Academically, I have worked my way up from a state school/first-generation at university background to be the highest achiever in both my school and sixth form - now attending Oxford University. This journey has instilled into me an incredibly serious belief that education is the most important tool for young people to better themselves. I have paid experience in 1-1 tutoring with a number of companies (50+ hours). I founded and directed a tutoring scheme providing Oxbridge admissions advice to underrepresented students. I have completed a private paid tutoring program with UNIQ (Oxford University Summer School). Coupled with my exceptional academic profile of straight A*s at both GCSE and A Level, this puts me in a perfect position for a range of tutoring roles, with a specialism from GCSE to A Level in English, History and Music.

I have previously been a Mathematics Teacher at Northwood School teaching KS3, GCSE and A-level Mathematics. I have recently completed an MSc Mathematics qualification at King's College London. I also already hold a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Mathematics from King`s College London. During my undergraduate degree I was President of 'Team Up', a voluntary tuition program, supporting low income background secondary students in Maths, English and Science within the central London area. Endorsements: (Meira, A-level Mathematics) "We turned to Sunny in desperation in the middle of study leave to help my daughter through her A-2 maths exams, and particularly M1 (after she spent the year struggling and refusing a tutor). Sunny has been amazing! After one session on M1 the look on her face was a joy… it was apparent that she now saw clearly something that had been opaque to that point. He has since gone out of his way to make himself available to help not only with M1 but also the C3 and C4 exams. My daughter is now relatively relaxed and reasonably confident of making at least her UCAS insurance offer. I can't recommend Sunny more highly." Valid DBS check.

Currently, I am a Ph.D student in creative writing living in Manchester but I am available for Zoom lessons only. I am a published writer/poet and also run a successful small publishing press, focusing on writing in the experimental calibre. My experience tutoring began working with a fifteen year old girl a 4 years ago who was struggling with social anxiety and panic disorder. The whole experience shaped how I could help influence the student in an engaging and sensitive way, and inspire them to enjoy developing their knowledge. Also, as an experienced editor, it is in my nature to help the individual try and find their best way to express themselves in both an academic and creatively. I specialise in the following: ENGLISH LITERATURE: - Poetry - Shakespeare - The novel - Fiction and Drama - Literal and inferential comprehension - Critical reading - Evaluation of a writer’s choice of vocabulary, grammatical and structures features. - Comparing and contrasting texts - Revision/exam preparation and coursework/dissertation help ENGLISH LANGUAGE: - Critical reading and comprehension - Summary and synthesis - Evaluation of a writer’s choice of vocabulary, form, grammatical and structural features. - Comparing and Contrasting texts - Producing clear and coherent text - Writing for impact and purpose (selecting, organising and emphasising facts, ideas and key points; citing evidence and quotation effectively and pertinently to support views; creating emotional impact; using language creatively, imaginatively and persuasively, including rhetorical devices. - Creative Writing (in the form of "workshopping" and experimentation fo devices and ideas.) (If necessary, I have the experience to help students who suffer from anxiety disorder and issues surrounding self-confidence. Providing a tutoring experience that is aligned with the students personal needs and motivations) Please feel free to message me if you have any queries.
