Experience of delivering educational programmes to adults in my role as Employment and Skills adviser. BA: Hons in History and Masters in History from the University of Stirling and University of Glasgow respectively. My teaching approach has always been to tailor my lessons around the individual student with an aim to develop their critical thinking skills alongside their knowledge of the subject area. I have taught through the pop and rock guitar syllabus from grades 1-8 and enjoy encouraging students to craft their own style. I specialise in the blues/rock/jazz styles and am an experienced session musician having worked in a number of studios including Abbey Road. I am also a keen writer and like to encourage creativity in a student, having specialised in improvisation whilst I studied a Bachelor of Music at Goldsmiths University. I have also worked with Wolverhampton council, assisting and leading pop and rock workshops with ZIP Rock music. Teaching a summer school workshop over a number of months between 2015-2016. This taught me the skills to work with groups of students, working on their abilities to play a perform together. I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I have been working with students, teaching music and English for over three years. I love helping a student progress and work towards their own personal goals. This is at the centre of my teaching style, making the lessons as much about the student as possible. Alongside this I gig regularly and play in a number of bands. This is my passion and something I always hope to pass on to students, encouraging them to go out into the world and play music!

I am a professional singer/songwriter, I have released my own music and performed all over the UK and i would love to share my experience with you. I've been playing guitar for 8 years and been singing for 13 years. I've been teaching vocals for 3 years to all types of singers. My lessons focus mainly on breathing, control and supporting the voice with the body. All of my lessons include building technique as it's very important as a singer to grow a big tool box full of different techniques to use for different opportunities. Once we have learnt a selection of songs, my students get the chance to record these songs in my home studio, this is a great opportunity for you to learn some helpful techniques for the industry and build up a portfolio of professional covers. Please send me a list of all the songs you would like to practice with before our session, this way I can ensure I am most prepared for the lesson ahead. This will be my first time as a guitar tutor, however, I'm confident I can get yourself to a strong, supported Intermediate level with my teaching.

Since completing my qualifications, I have been exploring opportunities to expand on my ambition to develop a career within teaching/tutoring. My desire to work with young people and children is the path I want to pursue. I have enrolled in a teaching assistant course to start in September and am actively seeking opportunities to develop my knowledge and experience. My first job as a performing arts activities leader was an enriching and engaging role. I was able to use my learning and apply this to teach other. My employment enabled me to work in a school, whilst studying, and gave me experience of working with children, parents and teachers. I have performed in many productions, including, Hairspray, Blood Brothers and The Wiz. I also helped students with comprehension and maths. This was an amazing opportunity to work with people who struggled with their English and maths. I can address my teaching style to suit the pupil. I conduct online sessions. I take into account how to pupil works best and how they will get the best experience. I am also a self taught guitarist. I have been playing the guitar for 5 years. I have performed at various venues, including the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

Hello, I'm Richard and I am an experienced primary school teacher with a science specialism. I have previously worked as a Biomedical Scientist and I am effective at using my science background and teaching experience to provide high quality, bespoke tutoring to people from all backgrounds. I offer tuition in all primary subjects, science and maths up to GCSE and Biology up to A level. I currently tutor children who are not in mainstream education online as well as providing tuition face to face to a number of students. I am a fully trained and qualified primary school teacher. In my time as a primary teacher, I was also a key stage co-ordinator and science subject lead for the school. I currently tutor online to children who are not in mainstream education and I also run science after school clubs to primary school children around Yorkshire. I believe that everyone has an individual learning style and that it is up to me to identify that style and adjust my teaching approach to take advantage of that. A high level of subject knowledge is not enough to be an effective tutor, a thorough understanding of pedagogy and how people learn is essential to providing a unique, individual and meaningful learning experience.

Personal Introduction: I'm a professional musician and teacher based in London. My main instruments are guitar, drums and mandolin. I have more than seven years teaching experience and over a decade’s experience playing music in professional performances in different cities around the world, including Seoul, Berlin and London. I began playing guitar at the age of fourteen, taking lessons from a family friend and starting a school band which played together regularly. After leaving school, I continued my musical education at university, further exploring the guitar as well as taking up the drums and mandolin. In 2009 I moved to South Korea and formed the instrumental band Ether. We relocated to Berlin in 2013 and there I contributed to various gigs and musical projects in the city's extensive music scene. In 2015, I moved to London and I am now drumming for a soul/funk band called 528 and a Beat. I have a great love of all kinds of music, and I am experienced in playing many styles, from rock and blues to soul, funk, jazz and electronica. I am also continuing to research different styles of music myself. I am currently studying the traditional folk music of Eastern Europe and the Near East. Teaching Experience: I am a professional and qualified teacher of over seven years teaching experience. I have taught students of different ages and skill levels around the world. I began my career teaching English as a foreign language, and my wide experience in this field informs the approach I take to teaching an instrument. I was a full-time teacher in South Korea for three years and I taught English as well as the drums and guitar as a freelance tutor in Berlin for a year. I conduct lessons to the highest standards. My 120-hour CELTA course and Berlitz teacher training as well as my recent experience in a British Council accredited school in London mean I am familiar with many methods of successful teaching, assessment and feedback. Tutoring Approach: Lessons are available in acoustic guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, drums, mandolin, bass guitar and ukelele. In our first lesson, you’ll get an idea of what to expect from my course. I’ll learn a bit about you, what level you’re at and what you want to get out of the lessons. And most importantly, we’ll get you playing the instrument straight away. In my opinion, the most important part of learning an instrument is to enjoy playing and be creative. I will tailor my lessons to your individual needs and tastes, and keep the right level of challenge in order to keep you steadily progressing. Students of all ages, levels and abilities are welcome, including absolute beginners. If you’re not a beginner but you want to brush up on your playing, we’ll see where you’re at from the trial lesson. Feel free to get in touch if you have particular needs or interests. To see the best progress, I recommend you take at least one lesson a week. Normally, lessons are conducted in my home studio in Edmonton. However, I am more than happy to come to you. If you do want lessons at your location, remember that you will need your own equipment (drum kit or guitar). Also, transportation costs including travel time and ticket fare must be taken into account.

Do you want the advantage of real world experience? Having worked in the creative world of advertising for 20 years since graduating from one of the world's renowned universities, I have been teaching students from over 10 different countries across the Middle East and the UK. I have successfully tutored young learners, adults and undergraduates, both privately and in colleges to improve, strive and succeed. After graduating from University of the Arts London with a BA (Hons) in Communication I went on to work as an Art Director and then later as a Creative Director in advertising where I managed, art directed and wrote advertising scripts for radio and TV and digital media. Along the way, I also started training clients for their marketing and design requirements. I worked in London for fifteen years and in 2008 went to Dubai as a Creative Director for a multinational advertising agency. In 2012 I got married and went traveling with his wife and started teaching English with Dubai as a base. That same year I got a post teaching the academic English course to undergraduates at the Dubai branch of Shiraz University, one of Iran’s most prestigious universities. This was an incredibly challenging job with large classes of terrifyingly bright young adults studying subjects as diverse as Engineering and Architecture to Finance and Chemistry!
A baptism by fire like no other. Following that, I instructed at three colleges in Dubai as a freelancer. I ended up specializing in Business English, particularly in the areas of presentation skills and writing. I studied the IELTS exam and became the prime instructor for this at another college in Dubai. The classes were huge, but a lot of fun! Once a week the class was divided into a smaller Academic group, which I also planned lessons for and taught. These students were predominantly medical professionals looking to work for the NHS in the UK. Since returning to London from Dubai in 2016, I have been teaching as a freelancer in London colleges as well as privately. Having worked in the advertising industry for almost twenty years, I feel this gives me a natural edge in the education field because of my ability to effectively communicate difficult ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging and above all, memorable way. My approach is very student – centered as a result. Online, The Red Ink is now an invaluable resource for English language students looking to take the IELTS exam as well as a forum for writing and general English language knowledge.

In 2012, I decided to go into the classroom full-time and studied a PGCE at Middlesex University. This course and the classroom experiences on it enabled me to become far more organised in my lesson planning, marking and more in tune with a child’s needs. Subsequent to this course, I worked in secondary schools as a music teacher, establishing good routines to help with pupil learning and managing my own workload. I developed interesting and accessible schemes of work that differentiated to all styles of learning through good classroom resources as well as visual, audio and kinaesthetic explanations. I started my tutoring experience 10 years ago in 2008 when I set up my own guitar tuition business. This involved taking on pupils mostly of primary and secondary school ages for private guitar lessons. Some were complete beginners and others had transferred from a different guitar teacher. During this time I also worked as a visiting guitar teacher in primary and secondary schools. These 20-minute lessons were mostly of small groups of 4/5 pupils, learning together but differentiating to their needs as some progressed faster than others. I am definitely a stickler for manners. I expect high standards of behaviour from my pupils at all times. In the classroom, I ask my pupils to raise hands when asking questions and to not shout out or talk over other classmates when they have waited patiently to speak. The use of ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ is also compulsory. These routines that I have set in place allow lessons to have a respectful atmosphere, which is hugely beneficial to learning. I thoroughly believe that good manners are key for the adjustment of a child becoming an adult. I believe that these small modifications to a child’s upbringing have massive implications in their grown up lives. These high expectations of behaviour are mixed in with a positive approach to learning. Pupils are rightfully praised and rewarded when they work hard and achieve well based on their abilities. I find that humour in the classroom goes a long way in motivating a child to learn as well as bringing a mutual respect for one another. This element of humour and light-heartedness is truly essential in building rapport within the learning dynamic. I would describe my personality as easy going. I’m comfortable and totally at ease in all types of company. Friends have remarked that I am always good to have around in social situations as I can converse with people from all walks of life, making them feel instantly at ease. I feel I am quite considerate and respectful in any social occasion. It is in my capacity as a private guitar teacher that I have gained the most satisfaction and wish to extend this role into academic learning. This role has allowed me into private homes to develop a child’s musical expertise as well as feeling welcomed and valued by the family in the role that I provide. These guitar lessons are hugely different from those of the classroom. The perspective has a much more intimate approach to music allowing for to really isolate the pupil’s needs. These lessons can also be punctuated by conversations on music or life in general. These can include social or school problems, or sometimes they enjoy the point of view and ideas of an adult who is not a schoolteacher or family member. Just talking to someone younger than their parents who they see on a weekly basis can be a therapeutic experience for them. I enjoy putting their concerns at ease through simple explanations and laughter, promoting good behaviour and respect. I believe myself to be a good role model in this environment and take great pride, feeling very passionate about the positive guidance that I am able to give. I believe I can be an excellent tutor to your child in all aspects of their development.
