I am a PhD graduate from the English and Comparative Literature department at King’s College London, with several years of teaching experience in the department. I have extensive experience lecturing and leading seminar-style teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have designed and delivered original curriculums and online learning courses, downloaded by hundreds of learners worldwide. I regularly assess essays and examinations, providing detailed feedback on argument strength, critical analysis, and structural coherence to help students refine their academic writing. My primary role is as a grant innovation consultant, helping tech start-ups, small businesses, and research institutions secure funding for their projects. I have experience writing and editing a wide range of grant applications, from early-stage innovation funding to large-scale research grants. I also assist in crafting compelling proposals for PhD research, postdoctoral fellowships, and academic research projects across various disciplines. My expertise lies in aligning project goals with funder requirements, showcasing innovation and impact, and guiding clients through the often complex funding landscape to maximize their chances of success. I have taught English as a foreign language to non-native speakers across Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, helping students build conversational skills, expand their vocabulary, and improve grammar accuracy and sentence construction. I have also volunteered in primary and secondary schools as a tutor, supporting students with special needs and learning difficulties who struggle with English. I specialise in improving the written communication and critical thinking skills of GCSE and A-Level students in arts and humanities subjects: philosophy, history, ancient history, politics, and especially English Language and Literature. I am well-versed in the texts, syllabuses, and assessed content of major examination boards, including Edexcel, AQA, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge IGCSE, WJEC, and Scottish Highers. I have also helped students prepare for Oxford interviews, admissions tests, GAMSAT, BMAT, and IELTS English proficiency exams. I am a naturally patient and adaptable teacher, committed to tailoring each lesson to suit individual needs and learning motivations. I set high standards for student effort and respect, with a strong focus on fostering progress and academic success through thoughtful, responsive teaching strategies.

I am an engaging and proactive personal tutor with 12 years of experience in tutoring English, Drama, and Creative Writing. I work with GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate students, predominantly on their English Literature studies I adapt every session to the specific needs of the student and ensure that each lesson is successful in obtaining their personal goals. In Literature tuition, we will focus on analytical skills and essay writing (considering structure, context, and critical analysis). We will also compile a revision portfolio, which greatly aids the student when preparing for their exams, allowing them to review their work in a clear, compartmentalized, and accessible manner. For many years, I worked as a school tutor with students from year 2 to year 13. This has provided me with a strong and comprehensive understanding of academic demands and the school curriculum. Additionally, I have experience teaching KS1 and KS2 subjects and have extensive experience working with SEN students. I hold a Masters Degree in Creative Writing and have led many writer's workshops for young people. I run a theatre company in London and have taught workshops and classes with drama students, varying in age from 9 to 19. I am a positive, reliable, supportive, and fun teacher who works hard to ensure that each student is able to learn in an enjoyable and accessible manner.

So you're stressed and agonising over that essay you can't write, or that text you can't get your head around? And you have an exam on the way! Maybe you've taken the exam already and didn't quite get the results you wanted. It can be daunting to say the least. But that's where I can help you. While still at school, I tutored some of the younger students and saw real progress and their grades, skills and self-esteem. It's a process I've been developing ever since. After graduating as an actor from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a 1st, I spent 5 years working extensively in all levels of the education system, from School Students all the way up to Consultant Doctors. The one thing all of the people I mentor or tutor say again and again is "I never saw it like that" and that's crucial to what I offer. My focus has always been on taking seemingly abstract, complex and confusing material and making it accessible using my unusual slant on things. And I can use this to help you overcome the obstacles in your way. I teach seminars regularly with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust using a text to explore essay technique, thematic ideas and language. I regularly coach students and professionals to develop communication, problem solving and leadership. All while building their confidence with a given skill. My approach is tailored to the individual, and is therefore flexible to suit their needs. But central to it are the following criteria: - Building core competencies relative to the subject: Essay writing, objective analytics, attention to details and how to expand on them. - Identifying obstacles specific to the student. Using coaching techniques, tasks and conversation to help them overcome it. - Exploring alternative view points and helping to develop a wider understanding of the material in context. - Building confidence and competency in bringing knowledge and skills to the subject in question. - Basic exam technique, focus and stress-relief to help think analytically under pressure. - Public speaking, presentation skills and ownership of the text if required for a public speaking role. Outside of the tutoring world my hobbies ( as you might have guessed) include theatre. But I've also developed a bizarre love of gardening, and no I've moved to a big city, I'm really looking forward to the challenge of growing vegetables on my window sill!

Hello, My name is Max and I’ve been a teacher for the last 7 years. I specialise in exam entry, writing workshops and improving performance for the 11+, GCSE and A Levels for Language and Literature. I have a warm and compassionate approach, dedicated to each student’s development and academic access. I am proud to say I’ve helped students gain entry to St Paul’s, St Olave’s, Westminister, Dartmouth Grammar, Blackheath High, Henrietta Barnett, South Hampstead High and many others across London; sometimes helping them to win scholarships. I’ve helped GCSE and A Level students improve their grades from levels 6 to 8 and 9, working within the curriculum, homeschool students and students with learning difficulties. I am also an award winning writer (stage and screen) and know, as well as the joy of writing, the importance of academic discipline and articulacy, especially when in preparing for exams and applications. I studied scriptwriting at Central Saint Martins (BA) and playwriting (MA) at Goldsmiths University. That said, I do love to try and help each student find some pleasure in what they’re doing, with a patient and empathetic approach. I also run play and screenwriting workshops for kids and young adults and have worked the Yard Theatre, the Southwark Playhouse, The Gate Theatre, Flux Theatre, Theatre Workout, Actor’s Centre, Eaton House the Manor, Sydenham High, Alexandra Juniors and many other schools and institutions across the country. I have a real belief in the power of learning and the impact it can make on young people’s lives. I do hope I can help with your child’s studies. Scriptwriter Bio I've been a recipient of the Paris Royal Script Award, Screen to Screen Award, the Peggy Ramsay Foundation, a finalist for the Papatango Prize, Samuel French's Off Off-Broadway Award, Theatre Uncut's Prize for Political Writing and recently, the Nick Darke Award. I've also collaborated with the Wooster Group in NYC, The English Theatre Berlin and the British Museum as a dramaturg. I've had plays produced at Theatre 503, King’s Head Theatre, the Arcola, Paines Plough and many others across London. Testimonials I have two daughters, Grace and Alice, and Max, over two years was instrumental in getting them both into the top sets of English and gaining entry to Henrietta Barnett school. I would definitely recommend. Ann Marie, mother of Alice and Grace. Max helped my son, Chindera, get into Eltham College with high marks for his 11+. Pero, mother of Chindera. My daughter, Ann-Maria, has severe autism and struggled with her comprehension and creative writing. Max worked patiently with her and had an excellent relationship, helping her to really blossom. Natalie Campo, mother of Ann-Maria. He is also very professional and communicates progress regularly. Ayodeji Ojo, mother of Faith. Gayatri, although very bright, found her GCSE exams torturous. Max helped her to learn exam techniques which really helped to break everything down. Mina. My son George worked with Max in a homeschool capacity and, although English was far from his favourite subject, Max was the best tutor he ever worked with, improving from a level 4 to a 7 over a year. Sharron Delaney Zayed and Mohammed were helped by Max to improve their Engish language for GCSE. He helped imrpove their scores hugely. Clementine, nanny. Keira moved here from Australia and hated the academic system of her school so was tutored privately. Max helped her find pleasure again in reading while successfully helping her through her academic year as a homeschooled student. Keira’s mum. Max was an excellent employee – hard working, focused, responsive and a pleasure to work with. He had brilliant rapport with the students, and was able to deliver, clear, concise instructions, and work with students of all abilities to guide them through the project. I would definitely recommend him. David Workman, head of Youth Coordination, Southwark Playhouse Max has been working as a tutor and workshop leader for us for a year now and he is one of our most popular tutors. I offer tuition in Sociology, Politics, Government, History, English Language, English Literature, Philosophy, Religious Studies, public speaking, essay technique and interview technique. However, I also offer bespoke Oxbridge interview tuition for those wishing to read a Humanities subject. Having been through the process twice and seen it from both sides, I am uniquely placed to guide and assist potential Oxbridge pupils. I also support students in 11+ and 13+ exam entry, with specific focus for bursary or scholarship applications. I've been tutoring for 5 years, and taught many students whilst I was at Cambridge. Before joining Tutor House, I engaged in freelance work, tutoring for friends of the family and members of my social circle. Having graduated, it is my goal to take these skills, and my passion for education, to a wider base of clients. I currently work with a number of students through Tutor House, mainly at 13+ and GCSE level, covering a variety of subjects. I believe that tutoring provides a crucial niche not often covered by mainstream education. Tutoring provides a unique opportunity to build on a pupil's strengths whilst building confidence and helping them overcome their weaknesses. Every pupil has a unique way of learning, and, as such, deserves a completely unique teaching approach, specially tailored to them. It would be my pleasure to apply the knowledge I have gained over my academic career to help new clients excel.

I have experience in tutoring students preparing them for their GCSE and A level English Literature exams. I have also helped to mentor students in Drama and currently am assisting in directing a Community Drama group at the Rep Theatre in Birmingham. For two years I assisted MAT (more able and talented) students at my local secondary school to get their target grades in English Literature at GCSE and A Level. My students found my sessions incredibly helpful as well as achieving their target grades in their final exams. My teaching style alters to cater the individual student, as every student works differently. In the past, one of my methods has been to do a 'walk through past paper exam' with my students. I would sit with the student and go through a past exam paper step by step to make it clear what is expected of them on each section of the paper. It would then be their job to go home and complete the paper before bringing it back to the following session to mark and discuss. My past students found this method incredibly helpful, as it allowed them to clear up and misunderstandings or confusion.

I am a passionate, friendly and Masters Level experienced tutor in English and arts-based subjects! My academic background is mainly within English and Drama, with a specialism in Shakespeare too! Through this, it has become a passion of mine to develop a clear and accessible way for students to understand these practices. I have recently completed my MA in Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama but I hope to fulfil PhD study in the future. For the past three years, I have privately tutored in A Level/GCSE English and Drama, Shakespeare, Vocal Coaching and Dissertation/Essay help at Degree Level in Drama/English. I am particularly proud of my Shakespeare group who range from the age of 8 to 14, and this is a group setting where the children are able to explore Shakespeare in a literary and theatrical sense. They can improve their confidence and voices through their speeches, and culture through their learning about the plays. I always try and make my lessons hit assessment objectives so they are helpful for the children in schools. I would be happy to tutor Shakespearean Studies at all levels up to degree level due to my specialism and skills. As someone who has struggled with self-belief when it came to my academic abilities, I am aware of how this can daunt students. I understand that people develop at different paces and have different ways of learning. In my lessons there is no such thing as a stupid question – curiosity is always encouraged! I like to adapt my lessons to how that particular student learns in order to reach their full potential. I have now been working as a Teaching Assistant in Primary School for a year and will be undertaking a PGCE in September to achieve my QTS. Thus, I am versed in both younger and older children's education.
