I am a highly experienced tutor of A level (and GCSE) Physics and Chemistry with an additional specialism in GAMSAT, where I have many successful students. I provide support for students preparing for their entrance exams, and for their GCSE and A level exams. I also assist students with their UCAS applications and university interviews. I have much recent experience of teaching GAMSAT students, a specialism of mine. Recently I won a prize as the best new tutor at a tutorial agency, and last academic year my six A level Physics students achieved A*, A*, A*, A*, A* and A respectively. I am a top-rated GAMSAT tutor. My aim is to help my students to reach their full academic potential and get the grades they deserve. I believe in making sure that the underlying fundamental concepts are fully understood as this provides a solid foundation. There is nothing more rewarding than a student saying, "oh yes, now I get it". My tutoring style is to seek to identify the key areas where support is required and then patiently and sympathetically to help and encourage my tutees to master these areas. I have a post-graduate teaching degree and have taught in a number of Schools, Colleges and Universities. I am also a governor at two schools and chair of Council at one. I tutor individuals and also groups in schools, sixth form Colleges and Russell group universities. I was a lecturer at Imperial College for 26 years where I was an admissions tutor, senior tutor and postgraduate tutor and became deputy director of the Graduate school. I won the Rectors award for excellence in teaching at Imperial College twice. I have recent experience of tutoring and one to one teaching and also of tutoring in four central London schools, namely the City and Islington college, the Harris academy St Johns Wood, St Saviour's and St Olave' school and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school, Islington. I have also taught African student classes online. In my spare time I like to swim, exercise in the gym and kayak. I also love to travel and have lived and worked in Singapore, Sydney, Dallas and on a short placement in the Punjab. I support QPR more in hope than in expectation!

I am a PhD graduate from the English and Comparative Literature department at King’s College London, with several years of teaching experience in the department. I have extensive experience lecturing and leading seminar-style teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have designed and delivered original curriculums and online learning courses, downloaded by hundreds of learners worldwide. I regularly assess essays and examinations, providing detailed feedback on argument strength, critical analysis, and structural coherence to help students refine their academic writing. My primary role is as a grant innovation consultant, helping tech start-ups, small businesses, and research institutions secure funding for their projects. I have experience writing and editing a wide range of grant applications, from early-stage innovation funding to large-scale research grants. I also assist in crafting compelling proposals for PhD research, postdoctoral fellowships, and academic research projects across various disciplines. My expertise lies in aligning project goals with funder requirements, showcasing innovation and impact, and guiding clients through the often complex funding landscape to maximize their chances of success. I have taught English as a foreign language to non-native speakers across Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, helping students build conversational skills, expand their vocabulary, and improve grammar accuracy and sentence construction. I have also volunteered in primary and secondary schools as a tutor, supporting students with special needs and learning difficulties who struggle with English. I specialise in improving the written communication and critical thinking skills of GCSE and A-Level students in arts and humanities subjects: philosophy, history, ancient history, politics, and especially English Language and Literature. I am well-versed in the texts, syllabuses, and assessed content of major examination boards, including Edexcel, AQA, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge IGCSE, WJEC, and Scottish Highers. I have also helped students prepare for Oxford interviews, admissions tests, GAMSAT, BMAT, and IELTS English proficiency exams. I am a naturally patient and adaptable teacher, committed to tailoring each lesson to suit individual needs and learning motivations. I set high standards for student effort and respect, with a strong focus on fostering progress and academic success through thoughtful, responsive teaching strategies.

Studied Chemistry at Edinburgh University then Imperial College up to PhD level and began tutoring undergraduate students as part of it. Now, I teach A-level Chemistry plus some GCSE/iGCSE, college and university students. As I only tutor Chemistry and 90% of my work is A-level, I know the three syllabuses (AQA, OCR A and Edexcel) and past papers inside out. I also have my own website dedicated to A-level Chemistry and study methods. I have been tutoring Chemistry in Surrey and London, initially part time from 2006-2013 and since 2014, I have been a full time tutor. Every year I have a range of students with different abilities and from different schools. Many want to go on to study Medicine and need an A, and almost all of them will achieve this. Others students are doing okay and looking to improve their grades and some will really be struggling. If the students follow what I recommend and work hard I can guarantee that they will improve and so will their grades. It is just a process, do the right things at the right time and slowly the results will improve. I have examples of students who were failing in their mocks and almost miraculously got an A or B in June. While this is rare, it has happened several times over the past few years. When tutoring I focus on a few things: simplifying concepts and helping the student understand, helping them with self-belief and motivation (many students think Chemistry is impossible or they can’t do exams or they’re not good enough) and constantly looking at study methods and exam technique. The mindset and study methods are vital, in my opinion even more so than the Chemistry. If they get this right, then they will improve, they have to, it's impossible not to! And these skills are transferable to any subject and University. From experience, schools do not help with this at all, they focus only on the subject material. Most students are good enough to get a B or better and often need help seeing this and being shown how to actually get that grade. If they haven't done it before, who are they supposed to know what to do? After doing it once, it becomes a whole lot easier!

I am an English literature and linguistics graduate, currently studying graduate-entry medicine. My previous experience of tutoring has largely been through voluntary work, including peer-to-peer tutoring, inpatient education schemes and other charitable organisations. I am enthusiastic and passionate about all of my subjects and believe that each learner is individual - which their teaching must reflect. Consequently, for each student, I believe a tailor-made plan to their learning style, needs and goals is essential to not only helping students pass exams, but to also achieve to their maximum potential in those fields.
