What is human biology?
Human Biology is the study of human anatomy and physiology, genetics, nutrition, evolution, as well as socio-cultural influences on human development. Human Biology courses teaches everything you need to know about the human existence across the past, present and future. Human Biologists examine the function of the human body, including lifespan, illness and human health.
How many bones are in the human body?
The number of bones in an adult human body is 206. Bones provide support for our body's weight, protect our internal organs (like the brain and heart) and promotes movement and mobility. The bone structure also forms our body shape.
Where is DNA found in a human cell?
Human DNA can be located all over our body: human fingerprints, hair follicles, skin cells, bodily fluids like saliva or semen too. Every cell in our human bodies is exactly the same. Our DNA is formally located in the nucleus, which is bunched into chromosomes. Partial DNA can also be located in the mitochondria.
Study Human Biology with a top science tutor
Ever wondered why genetics affect the way we age? Or what humans' role is in the natural world? If you're curious about humans and our place in the world, a Human Biology qualification could be perfect for you.
Human Biology refers to the study of the structure and function of the human body. Students who study the subject will explore how the human species evolved, how human bodies change over their lifespan, and how our human biology and culture influence the extent to which we are at risk from disease.
Some of the questions you might explore as a human biologist could be… What is the body made up of? Why do certain people grow taller? Why do some people age more successfully than others? How does the body adapt to cope with challenges such as extreme environments? How does our evolutionary past affect our current biology? How do our genes, lifestyle and environment affect our risk of catching diseases?
