Is Italian GCSE hard?
Italian is one of the more easy languages to learn, alongside Spanish. Italian is a romance language, but lots of its words come from the same root as words in the English language, so it's a great choice of GCSE for native English speakers. GCSE Italian students might find conjugating verbs the most difficult part of learning Italian, but once you've got to grips with this you'll find it much easier.
What do you learn in GCSE Italian?
GCSE Italian has two different assessment levels, the Foundation paper (grades 1-5) and the Higher paper (grades 4-9). Students will take a different paper depending on their capabilities in Italian. Whilst students on the Higher course will learn slightly more challenging vocabulary, all students will study content about identity, culture, family, education, holidays, social issues and jobs.
How do I revise for GCSE Italian?
The most important thing when it comes to revising Italian, or any modern language for that matter, is to learn as much vocabulary as possible. Understanding vocabulary will be crucial for your listening, writing and reading exams. It's a great idea to make flashcards with important Italian words and their translations. For your speaking assessments, you should revise by practicing your answers as much as possible with someone else reading you the questions. This will dispel any nerves you might have before the exam!

Need to learn Italian for GCSE?
Our tutors can cater to all syllabuses and exam boards, including AQA Italian, OCR Italian and Edexcel Italian. We can find a perfect tutor for you, whether you are studying for a Foundation paper or Higher paper.
Foreign language GCSEs tend to assess students on four key areas: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. Students will understand how to communicate about their families, hobbies, holidays and much more! Alongside this, a GCSE in Italian will give students an awareness of a different culture and a curiosity for other countries.
A GCSE in Italian will give students a foundation from which they can build on to A Level and University study if they choose to continue their modern languages into Higher Education. If you want to pursue a language, it's recommended you take the Higher paper for GCSE as this supports a higher proficiency in the language.
With the help of an Italian tutor, students can achieve their top grade aspirations. If you're hiring a tutor in the run up to exams, we recommend at least 3 months to prepare. In this amount of time, our previous students have achieved up to 3 grades higher than their previous level! So if you want to move from a grade 7 to a grade 9, ensure you give yourself a realistic number of lessons with a private Italian tutor.
