Is GCSE Latin hard?
Latin is often seen as one of the toughest languages to study. It's an ancient language and the grammar rules are pretty complex. GCSE Latin students will have to learn about declension, which is when the form of a word changes to indicate its grammatical tense, gender or number. This is the most difficult part of GCSE Latin to get your head around and it does mean you'll need a good memory.
Why should I take Latin GCSE?
Lots of people wonder why they should bother taking Latin if it's a 'dead' language (meaning it's not spoken anymore in everyday life). However, Latin is so much more than ancient, complex grammar and declension. Latin GCSE will teach you about the history, philosophy, literature and culture of ancient civilisations. Latin was the building block for many of the modern languages we speak today and, understanding Latin will help you to understand other languages and the root of their words - like Italian.
How do I revise for GCSE Latin?
Revising for languages is tricky as you don't know what exactly will come up in your exams. The best way to prepare for GCSE Latin exams is to try and learn as much vocabulary as possible and to be really confident on the rules of grammar. If you're confident on the grammar, you're most of the way there when it comes to succeeding in your Latin GCSE.
