I am a highly experienced tutor with over 7 years experience teaching and tutoring in private and public schools, as well as privately and online, in the UK, France and Spain. I am familiar with all major exam boards, and have been frequently noted for the passion and rigor with which I introduce and teach my subjects. I am a firm believer in the idea that education should be available to all, and that there is is student without potential. I thus make a point to help the student see the attraction of the subject. My methodology is focused on ensuring immersion in both the more theoretical and abstract principles of the subect and their application through practice and concrete examples. I aim to get the student applying themselves consistently as soon as possible, keeping a constant eye out for areas for improvement. I studied at the University of Warwick, Sciences Po, and the Sorbonne. I have worked as a teacher, tutor, translator, researcher, as well as business research and charity. I am fluent in 6 languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German. I am also a teacher of Latin and Greek.

Dynamic Language Educator: German, Italian, Latin, and Biblical Hebrew Welcome to my profile! I am an enthusiastic and experienced language teacher specialised in German, Italian, Latin, and Biblical Hebrew. With a rich background in academia, I served as a university lecturer for seven years. Since 2018, I have dedicated myself to teaching German, Italian, Latin and Hebrew at all proficiency levels. **GCSE, A-Level & IB** I am particularly skilled in preparing students for key examinations, including GCSE (National 5), A-Level (Higher) and IB across various boards such as AQA, EDEXCEL, SQA, and more. Over the past six years, I have successfully guided numerous pupils through these critical assessments. **Professional Development and Personal Enrichment** In addition to academic tutoring, I have collaborated with professionals seeking to enhance their language skills for career advancement or personal enrichment. My flexible scheduling approach accommodates the diverse needs of busy professionals, ensuring a seamless learning experience. **Customised Learning Approach** Recognising that each learner is unique, I craft personalized lesson plans to align with individual goals and learning styles. I believe in a student-centred approach, allowing learners to progress at their own pace without the constraints of a rigid methodology. **Assessment and Goal Setting** Our journey begins with an initial assessment to gauge your current proficiency. Through conversation and a brief reading exercise, I quickly ascertain your starting level. This evaluation is crucial in developing a structured learning plan with clear milestones, which are particularly beneficial for GCSE/A-Level pupils. Regular goal setting fosters motivation and ensures efficient, cost-effective learning. **Comprehensive Feedback and Support** I am committed to providing continuous feedback and support throughout your language learning journey. Homework assignments are an integral part of the process, and I review and provide insights on the work submitted. **Balanced Lesson Structure** Each lesson is thoughtfully divided into three complementary segments: 1. Speaking and Listening - Enhancing conversational skills and auditory comprehension. 2. Grammar - Building a strong foundation in language structure. 3. Reading - Developing reading proficiency and comprehension. Thank you for considering me as your language tutor. I am excited about the opportunity to embark on this linguistic journey with you.

I’ve taught beginners up to Common Entrance at prep schools in Surrey and London for fourteen years, and SAT exams for US universities. My students, as well as gaining scholarships to top schools, have gone to Cambridge, Oxford, Bryn Mawr, and top universities. I’m experienced in online tuition (Skype/Facetime/ WhatsApp). I enjoy sharing my love of language, grammar, literature, history, mythology and philosophy. I hope to find quirky ways to give insights into the ancient world and its impact on the present. I particularly love helping students overcome blocks and difficulties to rediscover the joys of language and and the magic of ancient cultures. I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Brazil, Italy and the UK, from beginners to proficiency level, so have a particular awareness of difficulties with second language learning. I teach Creative Writing at University of Portsmouth, and I’ve given workshops in libraries, universities, schools, prisons and theatres. I have also translated ancient and mediaeval texts for academic, legal and medical purposes.

I'm currently the Head of Classics at a high performing boys' grammar school in the London area, with three years of teaching experience at top London schools under my belt. In addition to serving as head of department, I am an experienced examiner for OCR (Greek, Latin, and Classical Civilisation at GCSE and A level). I have a great deal of experience teaching students of any ability, having pioneered Greek and Latin language clinics at my last school as well as supporting candidates working towards Oxford and Cambridge entrance. I am driven, curious, and passionate about the subjects I teach. Having spent my teens and early adulthood acquiring proficiency in several languages, I am always eager to impart my particular expertise. Educated at Trinity College, I am used to working in a dynamic and competitive environment. During my university years, I worked as a private tutor of Latin, French, German, Irish, and English Lit & Lang. I also worked as a voluntary tutor on a university outreach program, teaching students from disadvantaged local schools. In addition, I spent three years as an academic mentor in my department, meaning I tutored groups of first-year undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek. As a new teacher and postgraduate student, I am eager to continue developing my craft. My approach is a holistic and highly personal one, and I strive to use that which drives and inspires each student to aid their education. I am highly adaptable to student needs and I am open to innovative and unconventional learning styles.

I have three years’ experience teaching in one-to-one and group settings. I am a Cambridge university graduate with a degree in Classics, and prior to starting my own business, I spent two years teaching English as a foreign language in the French Caribbean and France. Passionate about the French language I am an advanced French speaker and am equally excited by Latin and all things relating to the ancient world. Working as a Latin summer school teacher, I was commended for my ability to pass on my enthusiasm for the subject to my students. I also have experience teaching performing arts, having run my own dance school when I was 16 years’ old. As a mentor, I enjoy developing individuals and set out to help people achieve their best. Having successfully been through 11+, 13+ and 16+ entrance exams, with an excellent academic record, and listed as one of Elle’s top female entrepreneurs under 30, I understand that success first begins with your state of mind. Alongside coaching students through their subjects, I work with them to develop their confidence and instil a belief that “they can”. Subjects I cover: • Latin: all levels to A-level • Classics: all levels to A-level • French: all levels to A-level • Government & Politics: all levels to A-level **** About Me I am a performing arts enthusiast and my debut play has been shortlisted for multiple awards. I train regular to help develop a winner’s mindset and recently completed my first half-marathon. In my free time, I can be found curled up with an ancient philosophy book, eating cake or travelling abroad.

Soon after winning an academic scholarship to Eton College, I decided I wanted to study Classics at university. Whilst reading Classics at Oxford, I began to tutor in Latin and Greek; since then, I have taught both beginners and A Level/IB students and feel comfortable teaching at any level. Other teaching stints include working as an English teacher at a school in Tanzania and at a university in Myanmar. After university, I was an education worker for a year at a successful educational charity called IntoUniversity. My role at IntoUniversity involved running workshops in schools and a homework club for both primary and secondary school students (as well as giving UCAS advice). As such, I have a wide breadth of teaching experience- largely in the Humanities. My own interests are wide-ranging: in particular I love languages, travel and reading. This combination of interests has led me to undertake bike rides around Turkey (in the footsteps of Alexander the Great) and Uzbekistan (through the oasis cities of the Silk Road), and, more recently, a walk through Armenia. As a tutor, I aim to combine academic achievement with a passion for learning which goes above and beyond school curricula.

I earned my PhD in Classics many years ago, but all the while I have been teaching the subject I have continued to pursue it as a student. I have a great love of the classics. I've previously been the head of the Classics department at Queen's Gate School where I taught all Classical subjects -- Latin, Ancient Greek Ancient History and Classical Civilisation -- at all levels. I also helped students prepare for the Common Entrance examinations in Latin and Ancient Greek. I have tutored students individually over many years, including online in many different subjects including English, History and Philosophy. I walk my dog twice a day and have a keen interest in the sport of horse racing. Whether it's improving your grades or getting the most out of your studies, I'd love to help!

Is GCSE Latin hard?

Latin is often seen as one of the toughest languages to study. It's an ancient language and the grammar rules are pretty complex. GCSE Latin students will have to learn about declension, which is when the form of a word changes to indicate its grammatical tense, gender or number. This is the most difficult part of GCSE Latin to get your head around and it does mean you'll need a good memory.

Why should I take Latin GCSE?

Lots of people wonder why they should bother taking Latin if it's a 'dead' language (meaning it's not spoken anymore in everyday life). However, Latin is so much more than ancient, complex grammar and declension. Latin GCSE will teach you about the history, philosophy, literature and culture of ancient civilisations. Latin was the building block for many of the modern languages we speak today and, understanding Latin will help you to understand other languages and the root of their words - like Italian.

How do I revise for GCSE Latin?

Revising for languages is tricky as you don't know what exactly will come up in your exams. The best way to prepare for GCSE Latin exams is to try and learn as much vocabulary as possible and to be really confident on the rules of grammar. If you're confident on the grammar, you're most of the way there when it comes to succeeding in your Latin GCSE.

Looking for a Latin GCSE tutor near me?

GCSE Latin students are expected to become familiar with a specified list of Latin vocabulary and be confident in understanding the linguistic structure of the language. They are required to also understand the syntax and accidence of the Latin language. Students will also study ancient literature and other texts to gain a comprehensive view of the values and society of Ancient Rome.

Whether your child is following an iGCSE, OCR, Eduqas or other specification, Tutor House can find an excellent tutor to suit their educational needs. Learning a new language is tricky, and often students require additional help to full get to grips with the new vocabulary and grammar. Private tuition is proven to improve students' confidence, enjoyment of their subject and success in exams.
