I graduated with first class honours on BA (Mathematics) degree at University of Cambridge. After graduating, I spent almost two years working as an Analyst at a consulting firm, where most of my work revolved around coding in C#. However, as my true passion lies in Mathematics, I left my job to look for something education related. I am currently working in two tutorial centers, Conbridge and Helios Education, located in Shen Zhen and Hong Kong respectively. I mainly offer tutoring services to high school students looking to apply to G5 universities in the UK. After more than a year of tutoring, I noticed three things that are crucial to being a teacher. Firstly, I change up the materials and speed of teaching based on the students’ ability. A teacher’s job is not just to go through the syllabus with students, but also to set the right pace of teaching in order to get the points across effectively. Secondly, I put a huge emphasis on the flow and clarity when explaining concepts. There are topics that seem like common sense to some, but are not as straight forward for others. It is therefore important to communicate ideas in a clear and concise way that suits everyone. Finally, I constantly check with my students that they understand what has been taught. I do this by giving out exercises regularly, as well as making the classes more interactive. I enjoy playing board games, which I think is useful in developing teenagers’ logical thinking through having fun. I also enjoy developing games in Unity in my free time. Combined with my previous work experience as a C# Analyst, I would be able to introduce my students to the world of computer science, which is becoming an increasingly important area in modern society.
