Film and Media expert offering support across a number of subjects, including maths and English. I'm an active film producer and film theorist who takes on some private tutoring work on the side. As such, I tend to only have one or two clients at a time, meaning my time with you is focused and catered towards your individual needs. I started my career in film after completing an undergraduate degree in Media Production at Northumbria University in Newcastle. Before graduating, I was already working in film production offices in the city and delivering work which won awards globally, including a BAFTA nominated feature film, I Am Nasrine (2012, dir Tina Gharavi). My experience has also seen me working with the delivery teams as part of large British film festivals, including Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest and now London Short Film Festival. Over the last 3 years I have supplemented this work by offering my services as a tutor, specialising in media studies and film. I have worked with private clients of all ages: either to support a young learner in their understanding of filmmaking skills, film history or perhaps the basics of animation, to augment a college or academy application; or working with adult learners, delivering more targeted sessions on specifics such as video editing, script writing or project management. Having worked in the creative world of advertising for 20 years since graduating from one of the world's renowned universities, I have been teaching students from over 10 different countries across the Middle East and the UK. I have successfully tutored young learners, adults and undergraduates, both privately and in colleges to improve, strive and succeed. After graduating from University of the Arts London with a BA (Hons) in Communication I went on to work as an Art Director and then later as a Creative Director in advertising where I managed, art directed and wrote advertising scripts for radio and TV and digital media. Along the way, I also started training clients for their marketing and design requirements. I worked in London for fifteen years and in 2008 went to Dubai as a Creative Director for a multinational advertising agency. In 2012 I got married and went traveling with his wife and started teaching English with Dubai as a base. That same year I got a post teaching the academic English course to undergraduates at the Dubai branch of Shiraz University, one of Iran’s most prestigious universities. This was an incredibly challenging job with large classes of terrifyingly bright young adults studying subjects as diverse as Engineering and Architecture to Finance and Chemistry! A baptism by fire like no other. Following that, I instructed at three colleges in Dubai as a freelancer. I ended up specializing in Business English, particularly in the areas of presentation skills and writing. I studied the IELTS exam and became the prime instructor for this at another college in Dubai. The classes were huge, but a lot of fun! Once a week the class was divided into a smaller Academic group, which I also planned lessons for and taught. These students were predominantly medical professionals looking to work for the NHS in the UK. Since returning to London from Dubai in 2016, I have been teaching as a freelancer in London colleges as well as privately. Having worked in the advertising industry for almost twenty years, I feel this gives me a natural edge in the education field because of my ability to effectively communicate difficult ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging and above all, memorable way. My approach is very student – centered as a result.
