If you understand music, you can enjoy it! You love your favourite pieces of music - but there’s probably a lot of music that you don’t like. Whether you know it or not, you understand the music you love, just like you understand what someone is saying in English. Well, you can learn to understand other music - jazz, baroque classical, Indian music, anything! - and once you understand it, you might find you love what it has to say. Let’s discover some surprising new favourites! There's lots of mystery surrounding music - why does that bit of your favourite song make your hair stand up on end? Why are some songs good for dancing and others make you feel sad? What on earth is 'free jazz'?? Well, none of these questions need to go unanswered - we can explore them together. Hi, my name is Haniell. I'm 28 years old and I love music! It became my favourite subject at school when I was taking my GCSEs, and I carried on studying it - eventually I got an MA in Musicology from King's College London. I started playing music 20 years ago, and I play guitar, piano, bass, I sing and I write my own music. I really enjoy talking to people who are interesting in learning more about music. Whatever you want to know - whatever questions you have about music, whatever you don't understand, whatever fascinates you - I want to know, and we can talk and learn about it. I can help with GCSE, A-level and undergraduate courses in music theory, history and composition. The syllabuses you're working through can sometimes be intimidating, but they don't need to be. Whatever you're curious about, we can start there, and pick up all you need to learn along the way. I believe that feeling of curiosity is the best place to start when you're trying to learn something new. Together, we can put together an approach tailored to you - something that, understandably, your teachers and lecturers don't have time for. GCSE and iGCSE: AQA, OCR, Eduqas/WJEC, Edexcel/Pearson, Cambridge. AS and A-level: AQA, OCR, Eduqas/WJEC, Edexcel/Pearson.

I am an Engineering PhD student at the University of Manchester specialising in material science and metallurgy. I hold an integrated masters degree in Physics from Durham University and achieved A*/A*/A/B in my A level exams in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Music. I have been tutoring since 2019 and have experience from teaching from GCSE to university level and have also tutored adult learners looking to become mature students. My lessons are conducted online, and I will spend our first 15 minute meeting getting to know you and how I can best help you achieve your goals. Subsequent lessons will be tailored to the student, focusing on either learning new concepts, revision, practising exam technique or a combination of all three. As the student, you guide which topics we cover but I will offer advice if you are unsure as to what would be beneficial. As a current student myself, my sessions have a relaxed atmosphere and rather than having a 'teacher' I am more like a peer mentor. I am well acquainted with a variety of specifications, including international qualifications. In my spare time, I am a keen musician, playing the cello with multiple university orchestras and singing in one of the choirs. I also enjoy learning languages including German, French and Russian.

With over 12 years of experience in teaching, I have worked with students of all levels, including those with special learning needs such as visual impairments, ADD, dyslexia and more. My approach is patient, enthusiastic, and relatable, ensuring that lessons are both enjoyable and effective. I have a strong track record of helping students achieve outstanding results, with some progressing from predicted Level 4/5 to Level 8/9 in GCSE Maths within just two months. Many of my students have also gained admission into prestigious schools, including Latymer, City of London, HABS, and NLCG. Despite my academic background being in music—earning a First-Class BMus (Hons) from City University London, followed by postgraduate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (MMus Perf) and a second MMus qualification from Goldsmiths University, London - my specialism in tutoring remains in Maths. I aim to teach in an adaptable and accessible way, inspiring students to love learning in the way that is right for them. The most important thing for me as a teacher is that my students are enjoying themselves whilst learning and working hard to overcome challenges they may face.

Having graduated with a Bachelors (BEng) degree in Biomedical Engineering, Masters (MRes) degree in Medical Physics, PgDip in Medical Imaging, and also set to start my PhD in September 2022, triple science, maths, and further maths are consistently used within my daily life therefore where my tutoring abilities are strongest. Always having been a natural polymath, the ability to understand a multitude of subjects has been second nature. Ranging from playing the piano from the age of 5, taking up saxophone in high school and achieving grade 5 in both Alto Saxophone and Music Theory, to programming and computing with python, MATLAB, and a range of other software. I have been privately tutoring A-level students in physics for a number of years, and have spent many more years tutoring friends and family, alongside mentoring younger university students.

Hi! I'm Collette and I've been teaching ever since the age of 16, when I began teaching music lessons to local children, during my A levels, as my school music teacher recommended me to them. I think what my pupils and students enjoy most about my lessons is how much they are treated as individuals; I tailor my teaching to suit the personality and strengths of the learner. I believe everyone has different strengths - my job is to find out what these are, and use them to build the learner's confidence and enthusiasm for whatever they are trying to achieve. Parents repeatedly report that their child's general wellbeing and confidence is hugely benefitted by my approach to their lessons. I achieved all grades up to and including Grade 8 Distinction piano then ABRSM Advanced Certificate piano, plus Grade 8 Merit classical guitar (and many Distinctions in previous grades) as a child. After school, I studied in London, graduating from King's College, London with a BMus (Hons) Music Degree (with piano lessons at Royal Academy of Music, London) and then a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education teaching qualification) from the Institute of Education, London (part of University College London). I've taught in a wide variety of capacities to children and adults, throughout my career, both face-to-face and, over the last few years, online, including: mainstream primary, nursery and pre school teaching; specialist music classroom teaching; peripatetic music lessons; home-based music lessons (piano, classical guitar, theory, beginner singing) and school tutoring; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teaching to homestay and online students. Please contact me if you would like further information. I am extremely adaptable in my one-to-one/small group teaching, and will always guide students in an encouraging and kind manner. As a mum to an 18 year old, I also know what parents and children need from their tutor. So, whether you are 4 or 94, I will be happy to help you achieve your potential. Looking forward to meeting you soon!

I am a qualified academic and practical musician, and English tutor. I specialise in SEN. I have proven results, with my students averaging an increase of two grade boundaries and 100% achieving A*-B results. My academic background means that I enjoy teaching the theoretical side of music alongside practical music making - and ensure good grades are obtained at primary level, through to GCSE and A Level. I have experience teaching and leading in a range of settings, from one-to-one instrument lessons to group coaching to sectional conducting. This has taken place privately, in a prestigious public school and with the BBC Proms (among others). I offer rehearsal and recital accompaniment and coaching, as well as performance exams preparation sessions covering aural and sight-reading tests. I am also available for proof reading or editing of essays, UCAS applications and job applications. I am an enthusiastic, young tutor and have experience working with people of all ages and abilities. I enter at the student's level and create engaging content to encourage rapid progression. I am personable and patient with an understanding, and personal experience of, additional needs - with proven effective strategies. I believe it is my duty as an artistic citizen to contribute to the provision of arts and humanities education, and I love working with students to provide them with the tools to enable them to achieve their goals.

My name's Harry, I'm a second year music student studying at Goldsmiths University of London and I'm loving it. I started helping my friend learn the guitar 6 years ago, which sparked my passion for tutoring music / guitar. After gaining more pupils over time I started to build an established following as a teacher in my area. I believe everyone's creative side flourishes at different times to others. I am happy to teach at which ever time suits the student, enabling them to gain more out of the lesson and let me more information sink in comfortably. I play the guitar, drums, bass and I sing (although my first instrument is Guitar) I achieved my grade 8 when I was 14, since then I've been teaching to people of all ages, from as young as 4 to as young as 64! I can teach any style, from acoustic, to jazz, to blues, to metal. I can also offer songwriting guidance, coach people how to perform, deal with issues faced with performing and nerves. I can also prepare my pupils to play live shows, and introduce them to a range of opportunities to play around London. I grouped together 3 students a few years ago, taught them a song and allowed them to perform it live in front of audience. I also offer guidance on Rockschool Grades up to any grade. I'm 20 years old, and have been playing music since I was 10, sharing my knowledge and experience is something I love to do. Moving to London has helped me gain more students and I'm loving it, seeing something "click" with a student is a moment I always remember. I play in bands of my own, along side being a member of another. I have played many shows around London, been on BBC Introducing Radio, Eagle Radio and appeared on TV for London Live on Sky 117 with Old Swing. Other than indulging in musical activities, I enjoy surfing, cooking and running.

I specialise in jazz piano as I am a performer with many years experience. However, I can also teach piano and keyboards in blues, funk, soul, and classical styles. Some of my beginner students just like playing simple classical or popular pieces. I am able to teach performance, improvisation, ear training, practicing techniques, and group playing to students of any instrument. Many students get tired and/or bored in traditional piano lessons. Yet learning to play piano can and should be a joy that also helps the student grow in all respects: as a musician, student, and human being. With my piano lessons in Cheltenham, this is exactly what you will get: the best piano instruction, as well as personal mentoring to gain skills needed to accomplish your musical goals. This can lead to enormous fulfilment and personal joy, which will benefit you in your whole life! I am a patient and thoughtful tutor. As a person I am kind and unassuming. I am a good listener and I treat all my students with respect.

I have taught for a number of years in a variety of styles and genres to all age ranges and abilities. After a number of years teaching privately and from a music shop, I started my own music tuition business which I have been running for over 10 years. In addition to teaching around the SW London area and beyond. I have also taught in an Independent Day School for over 5 years teaching simple and popular songs to children aged 4-11 which they then perform at the end of each term to an audience of parents, teachers and children. I also teach for a not-for-profit organisation which counts Bill Bailey and Sophie Ellis-Bextor amongst its patrons. I also perform occasional gigs as a jazz guitarist/vocalist and bassist. I have played many different styles and genres in various bands over the last 30 years and for a number of years I played in a touring band and have played in the UK, Serbia, USA, Canada, Costa Rica and France.
