With over 12 years of experience in teaching, I have worked with students of all levels, including those with special learning needs such as visual impairments, ADD, dyslexia and more. My approach is patient, enthusiastic, and relatable, ensuring that lessons are both enjoyable and effective. I have a strong track record of helping students achieve outstanding results, with some progressing from predicted Level 4/5 to Level 8/9 in GCSE Maths within just two months. Many of my students have also gained admission into prestigious schools, including Latymer, City of London, HABS, and NLCG. Despite my academic background being in music—earning a First-Class BMus (Hons) from City University London, followed by postgraduate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (MMus Perf) and a second MMus qualification from Goldsmiths University, London - my specialism in tutoring remains in Maths. I aim to teach in an adaptable and accessible way, inspiring students to love learning in the way that is right for them. The most important thing for me as a teacher is that my students are enjoying themselves whilst learning and working hard to overcome challenges they may face.

I am a professional music teacher, performer and writer based in St Albans. I teach music history, theory, musicianship, analysis and university preparation at the Purcell School, the oldest specialist music school in the UK. In addition, I hold a doctoral fellowship in Musicology at the Juilliard School, New York City. I focus on fostering enthusiasm for the craft of music in all students, irrespective of age or ability. My experience ranges from teaching near-beginners to advanced/undergraduate level. For my younger/lower-level students I create a rounded, multi-faceted approach that focuses on accessibility, discovery and freedom, treating every musical skill as feeding into one another, rather than being treated as discrete elements. With my advanced students I encourage them to penetrate deeper into the music that they are studying; to consider and discover aspects of music history and context; to broaden their listening and musical experiences to include a variety of different genres and styles. Whether the student be at a beginner or advanced level, I try to tailor the programme and pace of study holistically to each student's needs, rather than being governed by examination schedules and syllabi. If my students show an interest in a particular style, genre, composer or artist, or perhaps if I believe that a specific piece, melody or song will most effectively open the door to a new topic or area of study, I will try to incorporate those into my tuition. Being a tutor requires a high level of organisation and time management, and I rigorously apply these principles to every aspect of my professional life. Keeping detailed records of a pupil's progress and trajectory is very important, as is maintaining active lines of communication via the relevant procedures. After graduating from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University with a Double First Class degree in Music, I undertook postgraduate study in Clarinet Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with highest honours and the prestigious DipRAM.

People tell me I come over as a friendly, intelligent, supportive tutor who helps students fulfil their potential. I have nearly 30 years' experience tutoring and teaching learners of all ages, from kindergarten to adult education; in sixth form colleges and on graduate courses, in state, private and home schooling environments. Unlike many recent graduates who take up tutoring, I don't do it as a stopgap to pay off a student loan. For me, it is a passion. I love what I do - and bring a wealth of experience and creative strategies to the learning environment. My approach is based on an integrated approach to the liberal arts, particularly the Trivium of Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric. I firmly believe in a sound foundation of logic, grammar and rhetoric as the basis for a disciplined approach to developing understanding, wisdom and enlightenment. And I encourage learning through the nurturing of natural inquisitiveness, confidence building, developing an eagerness for discovery. I take a holistic approach to dealing with students who appear unmotivated to learn, or have been put off learning by uninspiring teachers. I have several teaching qualifications, but the main core of my teaching is my integrated liberal arts approach. I am a parent as well as an educationalist and understand the frustrations parents sometimes have with an increasingly regimented schooling system, as well as the challenges that teachers face within that system. I aim to provide practical solutions that empower children to cope with learning both within and without the school environment. My approach is rooted in sound educational practice, has grown through a wealth of experience and is nurtured with a good dose of common sense. It is organic and constantly evolving. My key specialist subjects are English which I cover to degree level and Reasoning, based on Classical Logic. I also cover Maths up to GCSE level, and have also tutored students at KS2 and KS3 levels in Essay-based subjects such as History, Geography, and Social Studies and provided revision support for students across subjects for Common Entrance. I have built a reputation for helping students achieve offers from top schools such as Eton, Westminster, Winchester, and others.

Over my A-levels and gap year I worked face-to-face with many GCSE maths students (and a few younger) and lots of beginner, up to grade 5, piano students. I aim to be as enthusiastic and relatable as possible, as these subjects are the things I enjoy most and would love to see young people enjoy them as well, not just attempt to stay afloat. My absolute favorite parts of my subjects are algebra, which understandably is a struggling point for many young people, and in regards to music, that of musical theory and history, which I do try to incorporate a little of in my instrumental lessons as well. I also aim to help students with learning disabilities to overcome challenges as a result, and also to help them understand and incorporate the benefits of their neurodiversity. I myself have dyslexia, and am currently studying aspects of how dyslexics learn and memorize music. I have taught several students with dyslexia (and other learning disabilities), and hope to share strategies for coping with it, but also how it can actually help students in other aspects of education and life. My teaching style Maths - Firstly, every student is different, so in the first session I ask what the student struggles with the most, what they enjoy and how they prefer to learn (visually, practically, through theory or an example first etc). If they’re not too sure, I work through a range of questions with them, from a broad range of topics to establish their strengths, weaknesses and how they engage with problems. In subsequent lessons I prepare a topic to cover (or part of one), working through the theory by building up from important basics up to more complex questions and problem solving, working through questions together and then by themselves. I always ask at the beginning of sessions, however, if there is anything they struggled with during the week, at school or in homework, and cover that first if possible. If it is a bigger issue, meaning the basics of the topic are not yet understood, I plan a full lesson for a subsequent session. I have worked with many maths students, particularly at KS3 and GCSE level, and found this layout to be very successful (for both results and confidence in mathematical problem solving) and also encourages openness between myself and the student in terms of asking questions, discussing topics they find complex, and speaking up when they don’t understand something. In my experience, many students struggle with the principles of algebra and fractions, which have been rushed through when they were younger but form the basis of a lot of higher level maths. Once these topics are covered thoroughly, many students, I have found, are able to comprehend the rest of the course with considerably more ease. It was not too long ago that I sat these examinations myself, so I’m very familiar with what the exams include and how they expect the questions to be answered - of course every school and exam board is slightly different so I keep up to date with changes in exam board specifications. For younger students I ask to see if there is a year curriculum that has been handed out to the students, which there usually is, and if not we work through all the standard topics which are pretty much universal. Music - All lessons are different depending on the standard of the student and how they respond to different teaching methods. For beginners, I incorporate learning music notation as well as some learning by ear. As they grow with confidence with the notes and basic sight-reading and aural skills, I split the lessons into a fun warm up, where we might play through a short piece or they show me something they’ve enjoyed practicing that week, then some technical skills, such as scales, arpeggios, breath control etc, then work on pieces they’re learning, then finally a play through to finish and recap what we’ve learned that session. This lesson layout I generally keep with for more advanced students as well, although this depends on what they are working toward, be it exams, a recital, solo or group performance etc. I do not necessarily expect all my students to take ABRSM or other music exams if they do not want to, as it is not always helpful to the students in terms of what they want to be learning, and is in no way necessary. Often students want to do them, and I will have a conversation with parents and the student to establish what is best for them. I more encourage performances and finding what they love. The exams can be useful for UCAS and general experience, so I do not discourage taking them and am very familiar with the layout, having taken many and accompanied a few myself. I have taught from beginners, both children and adults, through to more advanced students performing regularly and guided them through exams, performance techniques, and some people starting to explore composition for their instrument. Some of the biggest difficulties that arise are students not being able to read music, which is imperative for exams and playing in (particularly classical and jazz) ensembles, so experience has taught me to really cover some theoretical and technical aspects every lesson, as well as the practical side. Most importantly I want to ensure my students engage with their studies in a positive way, and develop their own interests within the subject.

I Began studying music at the age of 8, I’ve started first with classical music achieving a Piano Bachelor with the highest marks of the session. During my studies besides Classical Music I've been focusing my interest and enthusiasm on jazz music. Until today I've worked as Classical and jazz Pianist, composer and session musician in Europe, USA and UK. I’ve always been teaching privately classical and jazz music, Theory, Harmony, composition and improvisation. I’ve started teaching to my students my own idea of music and my personal approach with the instrument, trying always to encourage and stimulate their own musical unicity as I have done and I still do with myself. I believe that any teacher must have a specific approach with students in order to analyse, investigate, focus and then just guide their personal attitude for the music. I believe that everyone has this attitude. It’s in our decision, desire, willingness and passion to find it in order to express without any type of constriction.

I am a Greek-born guitarist and arranger with extensive experience across a variety of music genres. My western music studies together with the music of my middle-eastern roots have brought me close to different musical styles since an early age. This background of classical, pop, folk and world music has led me to the idea of blending and combining all these styles. Having studied classical guitar at the Municipal Conservatoire of Thessaloniki, the Ionian University of Greece and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, I began performing professionally at the age of 16. My appearances include concerts as a classical guitarist as well as performances as a session guitarist with bands and orchestras. Career Highlights - Invited to join an orchestra as a soloist at the age of 16. - Prize-winner in multiple international competitions. - Holder of four titles in guitar performance from major European universities. - Performance as a soloist with the “Athens Camerata” for HRH Princess Irene of Spain. - Appearances in prestigious venues such as the Athens Concert Hall “Megaron” and the St. Martin-in- the-Fields, London. - Interviewed repeatedly by the Hellenic National Radio and the BBC. Since 2001, I have been touring extensively in Europe, USA and the Middle East and have been performing as a classical guitarist (solo and in ensembles) as well as being a leading guitarist in pop, folk and contemporary bands. My love for the guitar and my wish to present new musical experiences to my audiences caused me to look for ways to broaden its repertoire and help the instrument to develop. Since 2008 I have made my own transcriptions for the guitar of works by composers of the wider musical repertoire. My arrangements include works of different styles and genres for solo guitar as well as for ensembles. I am an independent recording artist and music producer. I have released three CD albums of music for solo guitar.

I am an enthusiastic tutor. I love teaching composition, piano, music theory or Italian. I like to follow a path with the student: so my aim is not just to say something new to the student, rather to go together on this path toward a larger knowledge. I like also working on new ideas of the student, for example as regards pieces to write or new pieces to learn to play. Thus, my aim is to make the student enjoying having a lesson. I think teaching is super fun and for this reason I am always happy to welcome new students!

I am a calm, friendly and disciplined musician and music teacher with 10 years guitar experience playing in groups and as a solo musician. I currently and write and play jazz, funk, soul, blues and bossa nova, and have played rock, punk and folk in the past. In July 2014 I was chosen to represent the UK as part of a guitar duo in the festival of street performance, Lisbon, for one week, and have been composing and performing with the groups Mariska Martina, Bandini and Lit FM for the last few years. I also have been playing the saxophone for 4 years, and have a music theory knowledge of up to grade 8. In terms of direct teaching experience I have been home teaching music over London for the past 2 years with another agency, using my own method whereby I understand the student's personality and desires and engage with those foremost, whilst also focusing on developing their musical skills to a well-rounded basis. I have also taught drums and piano in a school for the past 1.5 years, and am desiring to branch out to teaching students preparing for their music, and also Philosophy and English Literature A-Levels/GCSE's.
