Success in any subject area stems from confidence, and a thorough understanding of its core principles. I focus on building up a conceptual understanding from first principles, in a way that makes sense to the individual. I use different styles of teaching to keep students engaged, and provide them with skills and techniques which they can develop further in their own time before learning new skills in the next session. In the lessons we build on new concepts together, and I prepare materials to allow you to consolidate in your own time before we review it in the next lesson. My expertise is French at all levels. I use a wide range of resources online, and prepare word document materials for lessons and for you to use at home in your own time. I have been tutoring for three years and have had great reviews throughout. I can teach French at all levels, and provide GCSE biology and chemistry lessons. I have finished my 3rd year of Medical Degree (I am currently doing a masters in research), so I can provide very useful UKCAT/BMAT/UCAS advice in order to give you the best chance of getting into university for any chosen course.

I am a highly experienced tutor of A level (and GCSE) Physics and Chemistry with an additional specialism in GAMSAT, where I have many successful students. I provide support for students preparing for their entrance exams, and for their GCSE and A level exams. I also assist students with their UCAS applications and university interviews. I have much recent experience of teaching GAMSAT students, a specialism of mine. Recently I won a prize as the best new tutor at a tutorial agency, and last academic year my six A level Physics students achieved A*, A*, A*, A*, A* and A respectively. I am a top-rated GAMSAT tutor. My aim is to help my students to reach their full academic potential and get the grades they deserve. I believe in making sure that the underlying fundamental concepts are fully understood as this provides a solid foundation. There is nothing more rewarding than a student saying, "oh yes, now I get it". My tutoring style is to seek to identify the key areas where support is required and then patiently and sympathetically to help and encourage my tutees to master these areas. I have a post-graduate teaching degree and have taught in a number of Schools, Colleges and Universities. I am also a governor at two schools and chair of Council at one. I tutor individuals and also groups in schools, sixth form Colleges and Russell group universities. I was a lecturer at Imperial College for 26 years where I was an admissions tutor, senior tutor and postgraduate tutor and became deputy director of the Graduate school. I won the Rectors award for excellence in teaching at Imperial College twice. I have recent experience of tutoring and one to one teaching and also of tutoring in four central London schools, namely the City and Islington college, the Harris academy St Johns Wood, St Saviour's and St Olave' school and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school, Islington. I have also taught African student classes online. In my spare time I like to swim, exercise in the gym and kayak. I also love to travel and have lived and worked in Singapore, Sydney, Dallas and on a short placement in the Punjab. I support QPR more in hope than in expectation!

I am currently studying Biochemistry at University of Oxford having finished schooling at North London Collegiate School where I gained 45/45 in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. I have had previous experience tutoring IB biology, chemistry, English, maths and economics as well as GCSE French, English, maths, biology and chemistry. I believe in altering my teaching style according to the student and have had experience in tutoring a variety of different academic abilities and ages. I am extremely organised and am happy to go above and beyond in regards to preparation and gathering resources to help the student. My experience in tutoring for IB and GCSE means that I am good at ensuring that all parts of the syllabus are covered and that the student is well informed of what’s expected in the exam. One of my IB students was recently admitted to Tufts University in Massachusetts while other students that I am currently tutoring for SAT are currently applying for numerous highly ranked American Universities.

I am an experienced Maths and English tutor for GCSE students and below. I have previously studied at a grammar school and achieved a degree in Maths and Computer Science from a well known red-brick university. I currently work as an IT Manager and have done so for the last 16 years. Alongside this I have over 10 years tutoring experience in Maths and Computer Science and have seen significant improvements in several students during this time. Making the difference is my main objective as well as making lessons fun. I have worked with students both on a one to one basis and in groups. This has also included online tuition via Skype/Zoom alongside more traditional face to face tuition. I believe that my excellent communication skills and solid academic background enable me to be an effective tutor within my subject fields.

Hi, I'm Aleysha - a History tutor and a recent History graduate from the University of Oxford, graduating with First Class Honours. I can provide tutoring for History GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate. I also provide tutoring for personal statement writing (general), essay writing skills (general) and Oxbridge interview preparation. I am an academic and admissions tutor for voluntary organisation The Oxbridge Launchpad, and I help students with Oxbridge admissions and subject-specific tutoring. I am also an academic tutor and I have helped students excel in their History IB, A Level and GCSE. My students have gone on to achieve top grades and have a high Oxbridge acceptance rate. My approach to tutoring includes fostering independent thought. I develop students' pre-existing knowledge base further, providing them with insights outside the curriculum that will impress examiners. I also help students create essay plans and give them effective advice on exam techniques to help them approach exam questions. I also believe in the importance of providing balanced and objective feedback; feedback should never be overly critical and I strongly believe every student has something important to say. I will guide students to ensure their arguments are well substantiated. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to book a lesson!

I am a fully Qualified Secondary School Teacher (Dip. Ed. UNSW, Sydney Australia, 2011 - Science) and I am an accredited secondary school teacher in New South Wales, Australia. Over the last 15 years, I have been involved in classroom teaching (after 2019) and private tuition (2008-2019) in the areas of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics for Exam/College Preparation as well as University Level Courses. I have experience in the UK (GCSE/iGCSE & A-Levels - AQA, Edexcel, OCR exam boards), the International Baccalaureate curriculum in Physics (SL/HL) and Mathematics (SL/HL including the new curriculum), the Australian HSC (Year 11 & 12) School System as well as Oxbridge Admission tests (PAT/STEP/MAT/ENGAA). From the USA Curriculum, I am quite familiar with the AP AB and BC Calculus and AP Physics 1, 2, and C. I also have experience in the USA College/Universities Admission tests, such as the GRE Subject Tests (Physics and Mathematics) preparation as well as SAT and GMAT (Math/Quantitative/Analytic sections). Employment Summary I am currently a full-time Mathematics Specialist at ONCAMPUS, University of Southampton. ONCAMPUS teach pre-university programmes leading to a wide range of undergraduate and Master's degrees at leading universities across the UK, USA and mainland Europe. My most recent assignment was as Physics Lecturer at the Immerse Education Summer Academic Program at Queens College, University of Cambridge. This is a pre-university programme designed to facilitate engaged and motivated students to explore their subject in greater depth, providing them with insight into what it is like to study advanced content within their subject area at Oxbridge Universities. During the period from January to June of 2023, I was a Math and Physics teacher at Northridge School, Mexico City, Mexico (US curriculum). That assignment entailed both teaching in middle school (grades 7,8 ) and high school (grades 10, 11). Prior to this position (academic year 2022-23), I was a Math Teacher at the program “Swiss Semester”, Zermatt Switzerland (following US curriculum) and prior to that, I was a Math Teacher at the University of Brighton International College (on-site) and Kaplan International College London (remote) (GCSE/iGCSE and A-Level curriculum). Before these positions (academic years 2019-22) I was again a math teacher at the Swiss Semester, Zermatt Switzerland (on leave from Kaplan International College London), and I held a teaching position at the Department of Science and Engineering at Kaplan International College London, based at London Bridge, London, UK since August 2019 (GCSE/iGCSE and A-Level curriculum). The program Swiss Semester takes place annually and its duration is only from September to December. Also both Kaplan International College London and University of Brighton College are part of the Kaplan group. Hence the above positions are part of contracts with just two employers. Professional Experience My position at Northridge School, Mexico, included teaching Mathematics at the Middle School (Grades 7 and 8) and High School (Grade 10) as well as High School Physics (Grade 11). The School follows a loose US curriculum. During my six-month tenure at the Northridge School in Mexico, I made significant contributions to the academic environment while facing challenges in terms of student discipline and the school's focus on religious/music and sports activities rather than academics. Despite my dedication and commitment to the role, I made the decision not to extend my contract due to the school's lack of an academically respectable position and my preference for a more balanced academic environment. Additionally, I found myself primarily teaching middle school, which did not align with my initial preferences. Overall, my experience at Northridge School provided valuable insights and reinforced my desire to pursue opportunities that align more closely with my professional goals and interests. My previous position in the Swiss Semester entailed teaching math at the secondary level. The syllabus taught is mainly pre-calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus (also known as AP Calculus AB / BC) is a set of two distinct Advanced Placement Calculus courses and exams offered by the American nonprofit organization College Board. Swiss Semester is a coeducational program of academic, personal, and physical challenge for roughly fifty high school sophomores from the finest independent and public schools in the United States and beyond. Swiss Semester’s campus is Zermatt, Switzerland, an outdoor paradise that epitomizes the security, stability, healthfulness, and natural beauty for which Switzerland is renowned. In regard to the previous teaching role at Kaplan International College London: This role included teaching Pre-Master’s students Statistics, and Foundation Physics, and Mathematics. During the academic year 2019-2020, I was the Pre-Master's Advanced Statistics Module (PM608) coordinator. The module consisted of two intakes: The September Cohort and the January Cohort respectively - The duration of each is 20 weeks apart from some extra 10 weeks where students have to participate in the "Active Learning Weeks" as required by Kaplan. Each Cohort consists of approximately 100 students. Teaching is done in smaller groups of 20-30 students in a collaborative, interactive, "inverted classroom" setup. Each group has three hours of teaching every week on the topic. Over this period, I was in charge of the teaching curriculum, exam preparation, and online and offline content development for this particular course. Apart from the A-Level math courses, I have several teaching hours related to A-Level Physics (equivalent to Year 11, 12 Australian HSC Physics). During this period I taught mostly face-to-face but given the circumstances, a small part of the instruction during the national lockdowns was done online. Apart from the previous role, I am a part-time Private Tutor in Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics. A large part of my work is related to University Level tuition but also the last two grades of High School (exam preparation). Teaching Approach Obviously, apart from the context itself and the expertise in the related fields, there are other essential components of successful teaching like personality, enthusiasm, versatility, appreciation of the importance of outreach, and most important a relation of understanding between the lecturer and the students. Apart from the previous, I think that it is crucial to provide students with a working knowledge of physical systems and to teach them problem-solving skills for building upon this knowledge. Teaching a person to think analytically is at the core of what a student should take away from any science or mathematics course. For students not majoring in physics/math, it is important to teach them how science affects their daily lives and how to make informed decisions about it based on the information available. For physics/math majors it is crucial to teach them the knowledge pertinent to their course of study and how scientists solve difficult problems using approximation, computational, and other quantitative methods. These important tools are invaluable to future researchers because they aid in the careful design of experiments and in determining the predictions of a model or theory. I would also strive to cover a range of topics in my courses. This would enable me to teach an array of different methods for approaching physical problems and to demonstrate how similar approaches can be applied to problems from disparate fields. Furthermore, being a theoretician, I am well suited to teach physics majors how to construct theories and models, to derive predictions from these models, and to test these predictions against empirical data they have collected from the literature or obtained in the laboratory. From my experience, I learned the importance of engaging students through examples and of pitching material at a level that assumes intelligence but not necessarily knowledge, blending the known with the unknown in a combination that gives the student the feeling of possibility rather than that of impossibility that formal and impressive methods may impose. I would also enjoy teaching introductory physics courses. Although it is often challenging to teach introductory students, it is a challenge I thoroughly enjoy. Preparing lectures and solution sets forces me to communicate fundamental ideas in simple terms and to think deeply again about some of the most basic principles in physics and math. During my graduate school period, I had the chance to become familiar with the system of tutorials that some of the British universities offer. This much more personalized system provides the opportunity of outside-of-the-classroom discussion and interaction which are a crucial part of the learning process. Many students who are reserved in class, ask excellent questions in smaller settings and thus, learn much more. I greatly value the instruction and mentorship I received while in college and feel strongly about providing quality education to current and future students. In regards to teaching international students, I am aware and over the years I have used a number of strategies in order to make classroom management and lesson delivery more effective. For example, I always communicate classroom expectations and policies clearly from the beginning of the course. I always try to speak clearly and be concise in my instructions (verbal or written), provide vocabulary at the beginning of a new topic and allow students to use a dictionary and other equipment that would assist them in the learning process. I always encourage students to make use of office hours and make course materials available in print and on the electronic blackboard. Furthermore, I am trying to incorporate opportunities for collaborative learning. Over the years I have become a supporter of the “inverted classroom” approach, especially for the students that are used to a “lecture” type of teaching style or teachers that are distant and authoritative.

The Oxbridge tutorial system (going through essays forensically and discussing them in depth) is central to Maxim's tutoring. These were, in his own words, "the best years of my life, with a learning experience I'm keen to share." Testimonials “The amount of history and your ability to create a timeline in order to help me learn the syllabus, although (it) may seem like common sense, makes the course much easier to understand thanks to you.” Andreas (A-Level Politics student) “Maxim tutored our son regularly throughout his A level Politics course. He was awarded an A* in his exam. Maxim has extensive background knowledge about the subject, exam technique and offers patience and persistence. Our son said he misses the sessions now the exams are over, which is a real endorsement. I would thoroughly recommend Maxim.” Jane (parent of former Politics student) Bio Maxim is a Masters student in London, studying Broadcast Journalism. Before that, he spent two years working exclusively as a freelance History and Politics tutor. He spent three years at Trinity College, Oxford reading History and Politics. At Oxford, Maxim focused on British and international politics, achieving high marks in International Relations and US Politics. While a student, Maxim also appeared on University Challenge and was twice an elected member of the Oxford Union's governing body. At present in my early 50s. I began teaching, in a London tutorial college, straight after coming down from Oxford. A few years after that, I interrupted my teaching career to return to university to pursue doctoral research, but I continued to see a small number of private students throughout my time as a post-graduate student. Accordingly, I have somewhere in the region of thirty years’ experience of helping students to realise their potential and, quite often, to exceed their expectations of themselves. My original specialisms were English Language and Literature, and these remain subjects I enjoy teaching immensely, but I have equal experience by now in History of Art, Philosophy, Film Studies, and Religious Studies, each of which I have taught to A level students and undergraduates. I also specialise in Pre-U English. The following is a quotation from the reference supplied by the school from which I resigned last year, after twenty years as Head of English and de facto Head of Humanities, in order to focus on private tuition: ‘Bill’s main virtues as a teacher […] are his infectious enthusiasm for his subjects, his immense knowledge and erudition, his intimate familiarity with past papers and assessment criteria, his commitment to his pupils, his willingness to make supererogatory efforts on their behalf, his provision of extensive and meticulous course notes, and his generosity with his time.’

I recently graduated from Cambridge with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences and would love to share my passion for learning with others by supporting students to achieve their full potential. During my time as a UCAS tutor, I was able to clearly explain advanced scientific concepts by adjusting my teaching methods to suit the unique learning style of each student and applied my TEFL qualification to support English second language students, all of whom went on to receive offers from Russell Group Universities. Whilst tutoring an 11-year-old boy in Maths, he raised his average grade from a C to an A. Having been elected as the Welfare Officer for the Cambridge University Water Polo Team, I emphasise the importance of mental health and aim to promote the emotional wellbeing of all my students. My pet Labrador Goldie may also make occasional drop-ins in the background of tutoring sessions to provide a little well-needed dopamine. :)
