I am a highly experienced tutor with over 7 years experience teaching and tutoring in private and public schools, as well as privately and online, in the UK, France and Spain. I am familiar with all major exam boards, and have been frequently noted for the passion and rigor with which I introduce and teach my subjects. I am a firm believer in the idea that education should be available to all, and that there is is student without potential. I thus make a point to help the student see the attraction of the subject. My methodology is focused on ensuring immersion in both the more theoretical and abstract principles of the subect and their application through practice and concrete examples. I aim to get the student applying themselves consistently as soon as possible, keeping a constant eye out for areas for improvement. I studied at the University of Warwick, Sciences Po, and the Sorbonne. I have worked as a teacher, tutor, translator, researcher, as well as business research and charity. I am fluent in 6 languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German. I am also a teacher of Latin and Greek.

My name is Joana Massana and I'm Portuguese but I've been living in the UK since 06/2016. I’m working presently as a Teacher Assistant in some schools (as an Agency) and I Teach Online as well, so I’m trained to put the others first, to make sure that their needs are satisfied as learners and that I do my best to provide them all the materials and information needed. Also, I’ve worked in a Residential Childcare with some children with learning disabilities and many different problems, there I was able to see their real struggles on a daily basis. In the past, I worked as a Designer / 3D Programmer for almost 5 years and I just loved it. This was a really exciting job that gave me the opportunity to explore my creativity and share it with others. I also really enjoy writing, designing, building websites and trying to learn everything that is available about all the amazing things that can be done using different computer programs. I have a Computer Technician course (2006-2009), this made me aware of how important and essential the new technology is nowadays, so it made me more curious. I also have different courses that allow me and trained me to be a good teacher, Teaching Assistant and Special Education Needs (2019). In 2015, while in University, I worked as a volunteer in an association providing support for children and young adults with learning disabilities and autism. There, I did different activities, including helping them to do their homework and to prepare for tests and exams. And before that, I had given private lessons for children and teenagers in different subjects. I think this experience allowed me to develop skills needed to support people and made me see the world differently in regards to how to look at people, make myself more caring, empathetic and thoughtful, I understood how important it is to put their needs first, assist them in benefiting from education and enable them to develop their skills. I believe that my passion for people and my knowledge would help me to be a good tutor, taking into consideration that every student is different and has different capacities, goals and passions for what they are doing/learning. For me, the best way to learn is "playing", I mean, in a relaxed way, playing some games, doing some exercises, activities, projects, listening and translating music, without any pressure. I will have some materials ready for each lesson - different things and nothing heavy. Lessons need to be enjoyable if students are to learn quickly. I promise good results! No matter how old you are, my lessons will always be interesting, funny, simple, light, productive and efficient - I'll aim for perfection!

I graduated in 2019 with a 2.1 in English from the University of Cambridge, and have since Qualified as a teacher with two years experience at an Ofsted Outstanding school. I work tirelessly to ensure my students achieve the best possible results, by combining attentive and strategic planning, with high-energy lesson delivery and responsive marking. I have two years' experience teaching KS3 and KS4 English at different schools, respectively awarded Good and Outstanding by Ofsted. Beyond this, I also have a wealth of experience teaching English as a Foreign Language not only in UK schools but also in a variety of locations abroad (Brazil, Chile, China) and to a variety of ages, ranging from college students and pensioners. I teach in a way that balances enthusiasm with results. I've seen time and again how the modern education system can sap the joy from young people's learning, and I love finding new ways to change that. At the same time, I know that good qualifications are a significant indicator of young people's life chances. With this in mind, I plan my sessions carefully and responsively, looking at where students need to improve and how they can build on their existing knowledge to achieve their personal and academic goals. I look forward to hearing from students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities!

I am an enthusiastic and highly experienced tutor who has helped hundreds of students to improve their performance in their subjects and excel in their exams. I have always ensured that I found out what students' individual needs were and made it my business to meet those individual needs during the course of their classes. I discuss my students' goals during their first lesson so that they start with clear aims in mind. I encourage students to become aware of their strengths rather than their weaknesses and make sure that they practise anything they are unsure of until they improve. I taught English as a Foreign Language for 6 years in Spain, during which time I had the opportunity to teach people of different age groups, from young children to middle-aged adults. It was with this type of experience that I taught both adults ad children when I started teaching in London, which I still do in Manchester today. I teach mostly Maths and English to children and French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian to adults. I have successfully taught a number of language students online. If you need a tutor who will inspire confidence in you, I can do this. Here are some of my students' testimonials: Andy: Paul has been teaching me Portuguese for the last two and half years and during that time I have learnt enough to be able to have an enjoyable conversation with my partner's family. Paul is both patient and methodical and always ensures that I practise the language well and learn what I need. I look forward to learning more from Paul so that I feel even more part of my partner's family Karoline: Paul taught me conversational Spanish for two years. he helped me widen my vocabulary, understand more key words and phrases and even learn the subjunctive. When I visited my friends in Spanish I was able to talk in more depth and enjoy my conversations with them much more. Thank you, Paul for being so supportive and patient. Mark: Paul taught me Spanish conversation for three years. During that time he helped me to practise the kind of words and phrases that I would use in real life. I improved from being a hesitant intermediate student to being a very confident advanced student and cannot thank Paul enough for his guidance. Harriet: Paul taught me advanced French conversation online. I am a journalist and needed help to improve my French conversation so that I could go on assignments to French-speaking countries and do research on situations which I would end up writing about. Paul was an excellent tutor, teaching me lessons on a wide variety of different situations, which were to prove very useful once I went abroad to work on assignments. Paul's lessons were invaluable and prepared me well. When I'm not tutoring I like participating in local 5km park runs, cycling, watching rugby or cricket. I also like seeing live music and plays.

I have a real passion for languages and travel and feel that this is reflected in my teaching. I love sports, particularly rugby and football (both watching and playing). I am a big reader of both classic and foreign language literature but also a massive film buff. As one of four children, I have learnt to be independent and individual while understanding the importance of listening to and working well with others. I have had extensive experience both tutoring while I was at university and also teaching at a variety of schools for charity, including: Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund in Uganda. I worked at a secondary school 6 hours from Kampala, the capital. I taught English and Mathematics to children between the ages of 13 and 16 (July - August 2012) L.I.F.E. Children's Charity in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I worked with underprivileged children in the slums on the outskirts of the city. The work was with a wide variety of age groups and involved teaching Mathematics and Spelling in a fun environment (July 2011) Eton Wick First School, part of a community work scheme, helping with 6+ teaching at that school once a week for seven months (September 2008 - March 2009)

Learning languages and feeling confident expressing myself in English has opened so many doors for me, both professionally and personally. I want to help students have the same amazing opportunities and feel energized rather than bored by whatever language they are studying. Since graduating in German and Hispanic Studies from the University of Nottingham (2:1 with distinction in Spanish) five years ago, I have been lucky enough to live and work around the world. I worked as an editor for an educational publishing house in Berlin, as a tutor in Valencia and as a teacher in Rio de Janeiro and Medellin. The part I loved most about these jobs was working face-to-face with students and seeing them grow in confidence over time. I have taught languages to all ages and levels from primary school children to professionals. I have been teaching and tutoring for over 6 years both in person and online. Over the last 2 years, since returning back to London, I have also mentored students applying for universities as well as guiding them through the scholarship process. The beauty in learning is that the experience is different for everyone. Many people I have worked with in the past have felt frustrated because the way they learn isn’t celebrated in a typical classroom setting – this is where I come in. From your first session, we will map out your goals, look at who you are as a learner (VARK), discuss your strengths and weaknesses and how you assess your own progress. My teaching method is based on building confidence and making sure the student realizes their potential. I believe that once these barriers are broken down, learning a new language or analysing our own is a lot easier! One of the approaches I often use is a blended learning approach, whereby students use online resources such as podcasts, videos and articles and then we strengthen their knowledge of topics they have learnt through putting it in to practice in a real life situation. Through discussions and interactive exercises, I make sure that students aren't just memorizing but really understanding the language used.

I have a degree in Chemistry, with more than 4 years of experience as a tutor and intern-researcher during the years in the University. Although I´m actually working as an on-line General Chemistry tutor, my other areas of expertise are: Analythical Chemistry, Bio-physiscs and Physical-chemistry. I offer really interactive and dynamic classes. My main tutoring method is guiding the student through the learning process, teaching all the concepts and giving all the examples needed to fully understand the subject/s. I can also offer classes to review/reinforce a specific subject (from zero if needed), for students who are really struggling with the theory of it.

Hi, I’m Lukene, a Chemical Engineering graduate. I have always loved the Science and Maths and followed this field of study through to university by completing a BEng. I chose to study engineering because I believed it would give me the opportunity to indulge myself in a range of scientific and mathematical concepts simultaneously. However my time as a student was not without its challenges. I found that I often had to commit to a lot of independent studying in order to truly understand concepts being taught during my time at school. I did this because in a classroom of 30 children, it’s often easy to be the kid who gets 'left behind'. My aim as a tutor is to ensure no student of mine feels that way! I discovered my passion for teaching others when tutoring a household of 3 children ages 3, 6 and 9. All three children required my attention and knowledge in a different way. Through this experience I also learn how to adapt my tutoring style according to the necessity of each child. However I found that there were similarities in their needs – they all needed lessons that were engaging and motivating, not only to keep them focused but to also help build their self-esteem. I assess my students to determine the level at which they are currently working on and tailor my teaching style accordingly, setting clear objectives for the pupil. The objectives act as a guidance for the student and varies checkpoints throughout their journey act as a motivational boost. I have also covered 11+ content; within 3 months of engagement with my student her school teachers had already begun to see a change in her attitude, her speed and subsequently her results in both her Maths and English Comprehension. Aside from school I have always been someone who enjoys extra-curriculum activities such as debating and public speaking. I also like to read non-fictional historical books, especially autobiographies of amazing people who have done world-changing things! Thank you for reading my profile and I look forward to meeting you in person!

I'm an extremely passionate and experienced tutor. I am a polyglot, having learnt over 15 languages to various levels (of which I am at least conversational in 10) and I have an MA in French and Italian from the University of Cambridge. My considerable language learning experience is very helpful in enthusing and helping my students. As well as languages, I love foreign cultures and so often use foreign music, films or reading in my lessons. I am also an avid reader and sports enthusiast - I play tennis, badminton and football and sometimes squash and table-tennis. I'm a big Manchester United fan and one of my most embarrassing moments came when Manchester United were winning the title with 3 minutes to go in May 2012 and I got so excited that I changed my Facebook status celebrating our title victory in front of my friends, only for Man City to score 2 goals in 3 minutes to pip us to the title and leave me feeling very humiliated! I have over 4 years’ experience as a tutor. I have taught English as a Foreign Language, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Latin to various levels as well as English (Language/Literature) and Maths to 13+ level and below. My teaching experience has allowed me the opportunity to get to know a range of different people from all ages and backgrounds, as I have taught students from 5 years old to over 60 years old and of all different levels! I often develop great rapports with my students. One of my students, to whom I have been teaching French for over 3 years, achieved an A* in French GCSE under my guidance. I continue to teach her French for A Level and she said that the influence of my teaching was a big factor in her choosing to keep studying the subject. The parents of an 11+ student, to whom I taught English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and with whom I had a great rapport, left me the following review (they also gave me five out of five stars): “An outstanding tutor who inspires great self-confidence in his pupil, who works with great calm and efficiency, utterly convincing, a true model for a young student.” I hope to achieve similar results with you! As a polyglot, I am extremely passionate about language learning, one of my favourite hobbies. My considerable experience as a learner means I know common pitfalls and difficulties for students, as well as how to explain these and break them down in simple terms. My teaching style therefore revolves around enthusing my student by transmitting my passion for languages to them. I believe that, if a student sees the advantages of learning languages, whether this is communicating with foreign people or getting to know literature in a different language, they will start to learn proactively and so improve faster. However, I do also have high standards. There are some language learning techniques that are more efficient than others and, given my experience, I’d like to think I’m well placed to know them!

Why is learning in a one-to-one environment the best?

Often teachers in schools have to manage large classes and so don’t have time to get to know each student well and give them essential attention and feedback. Working with a tutor is the opposite, they will understand your strengths and weaknesses and so be able to plan lessons around that. You know the feeling you get when you find a lesson really useful and interesting, with Tutor House that will be every time.

What does a one-to-one Portuguese lesson look like?

There isn’t one answer to this question. As you are the only student your tutor can centre the lesson around your needs, focusing on grammar, speaking practice or expanding your vocabulary. Whichever suits you best!
