Currently, I am a Ph.D student in creative writing living in Manchester but I am available for Zoom lessons only. I am a published writer/poet and also run a successful small publishing press, focusing on writing in the experimental calibre.
My experience tutoring began working with a fifteen year old girl a 4 years ago who was struggling with social anxiety and panic disorder. She was unable to go to school and I stepped in to help her pass her GCSEs. The whole experience shaped how I could help influence the student in an engaging and sensitive way, and inspire them to enjoy developing their knowledge. This role included giving workshops to students on a one-to-one basis, and in larger groups. I was also a guest tutor for the MA Culture, Criticism and Curation course at Central Saint Martins.
Before my role at the university was made full time I was able to volunteer with the charity Beanstalk as a Reading 321 Helper, supporting three children twice weekly to improve their literacy. These were children in Primary School who had been identified as being behind with their reading skills. I have also been involved with The Girls Network Mentoring Scheme. I have to say, I very much agree with this statement. A keen understanding of how the English language is used to effectively convey ideas, creates an opportunity for students to not only develop a critical understanding of
how language is used to transfer thoughts, feelings and ideas. But more importantly, it enables students to communicate their own creative ideas.
Ultimately, I believe that developing a deeper understanding of the creative techniques used by artists, writers, poets et all is key to the success and continued development and of any student that I work with.
