Hi! I'm Collette and I've been teaching ever since the age of 16, when I began teaching music lessons to local children, during my A levels, as my school music teacher recommended me to them. I think what my pupils and students enjoy most about my lessons is how much they are treated as individuals; I tailor my teaching to suit the personality and strengths of the learner. I believe everyone has different strengths - my job is to find out what these are, and use them to build the learner's confidence and enthusiasm for whatever they are trying to achieve. Parents repeatedly report that their child's general wellbeing and confidence is hugely benefitted by my approach to their lessons. I achieved all grades up to and including Grade 8 Distinction piano then ABRSM Advanced Certificate piano, plus Grade 8 Merit classical guitar (and many Distinctions in previous grades) as a child. After school, I studied in London, graduating from King's College, London with a BMus (Hons) Music Degree (with piano lessons at Royal Academy of Music, London) and then a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education teaching qualification) from the Institute of Education, London (part of University College London). I've taught in a wide variety of capacities to children and adults, throughout my career, both face-to-face and, over the last few years, online, including: mainstream primary, nursery and pre school teaching; specialist music classroom teaching; peripatetic music lessons; home-based music lessons (piano, classical guitar, theory, beginner singing) and school tutoring; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teaching to homestay and online students. Please contact me if you would like further information. I am extremely adaptable in my one-to-one/small group teaching, and will always guide students in an encouraging and kind manner. As a mum to an 18 year old, I also know what parents and children need from their tutor. So, whether you are 4 or 94, I will be happy to help you achieve your potential. Looking forward to meeting you soon!

I have taught through the pop and rock guitar syllabus from grades 1-8 and enjoy encouraging students to craft their own style. I specialise in the blues/rock/jazz styles and am an experienced session musician having worked in a number of studios including Abbey Road. I am also a keen writer and like to encourage creativity in a student, having specialised in improvisation whilst I studied a Bachelor of Music at Goldsmiths University. I have also worked with Wolverhampton council, assisting and leading pop and rock workshops with ZIP Rock music. Teaching a summer school workshop over a number of months between 2015-2016. This taught me the skills to work with groups of students, working on their abilities to play a perform together. I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I have been working with students, teaching music and English for over three years. I love helping a student progress and work towards their own personal goals. This is at the centre of my teaching style, making the lessons as much about the student as possible. Alongside this I gig regularly and play in a number of bands. This is my passion and something I always hope to pass on to students, encouraging them to go out into the world and play music!

My name's Harry, I'm a second year music student studying at Goldsmiths University of London and I'm loving it. I started helping my friend learn the guitar 6 years ago, which sparked my passion for tutoring music / guitar. After gaining more pupils over time I started to build an established following as a teacher in my area. I believe everyone's creative side flourishes at different times to others. I am happy to teach at which ever time suits the student, enabling them to gain more out of the lesson and let me more information sink in comfortably. I play the guitar, drums, bass and I sing (although my first instrument is Guitar) I achieved my grade 8 when I was 14, since then I've been teaching to people of all ages, from as young as 4 to as young as 64! I can teach any style, from acoustic, to jazz, to blues, to metal. I can also offer songwriting guidance, coach people how to perform, deal with issues faced with performing and nerves. I can also prepare my pupils to play live shows, and introduce them to a range of opportunities to play around London. I grouped together 3 students a few years ago, taught them a song and allowed them to perform it live in front of audience. I also offer guidance on Rockschool Grades up to any grade. I'm 20 years old, and have been playing music since I was 10, sharing my knowledge and experience is something I love to do. Moving to London has helped me gain more students and I'm loving it, seeing something "click" with a student is a moment I always remember. I play in bands of my own, along side being a member of another. I have played many shows around London, been on BBC Introducing Radio, Eagle Radio and appeared on TV for London Live on Sky 117 with Old Swing. Other than indulging in musical activities, I enjoy surfing, cooking and running.

Do you want the advantage of real world experience? Having worked in the creative world of advertising for 20 years since graduating from one of the world's renowned universities, I have been teaching students from over 10 different countries across the Middle East and the UK. I have successfully tutored young learners, adults and undergraduates, both privately and in colleges to improve, strive and succeed. After graduating from University of the Arts London with a BA (Hons) in Communication I went on to work as an Art Director and then later as a Creative Director in advertising where I managed, art directed and wrote advertising scripts for radio and TV and digital media. Along the way, I also started training clients for their marketing and design requirements. I worked in London for fifteen years and in 2008 went to Dubai as a Creative Director for a multinational advertising agency. In 2012 I got married and went traveling with his wife and started teaching English with Dubai as a base. That same year I got a post teaching the academic English course to undergraduates at the Dubai branch of Shiraz University, one of Iran’s most prestigious universities. This was an incredibly challenging job with large classes of terrifyingly bright young adults studying subjects as diverse as Engineering and Architecture to Finance and Chemistry!
A baptism by fire like no other. Following that, I instructed at three colleges in Dubai as a freelancer. I ended up specializing in Business English, particularly in the areas of presentation skills and writing. I studied the IELTS exam and became the prime instructor for this at another college in Dubai. The classes were huge, but a lot of fun! Once a week the class was divided into a smaller Academic group, which I also planned lessons for and taught. These students were predominantly medical professionals looking to work for the NHS in the UK. Since returning to London from Dubai in 2016, I have been teaching as a freelancer in London colleges as well as privately. Having worked in the advertising industry for almost twenty years, I feel this gives me a natural edge in the education field because of my ability to effectively communicate difficult ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging and above all, memorable way. My approach is very student – centered as a result. Online, The Red Ink is now an invaluable resource for English language students looking to take the IELTS exam as well as a forum for writing and general English language knowledge.

I graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree from the University of Leeds. As a major academic scholar at Magdalen College School, Oxford, I studied maths and sciences at A-level, achieving grades of A* (Maths) AAA (Further Maths, Physics, Music). Although my greatest academic strengths are maths and physics, my personal interest led me to study Music at the University of Leeds, where I tailored my degree to included a mix of musicology, performance, pedagogical techniques, and a strong side component of philosophy. I'm patient and friendly, and am skilled at quickly developing a rapport with children and teenagers. I currently work as an instrumental tutor and freelance musician. I have been giving one-on-one guitar lessons since 2016. I teach both children and adults from beginners to advanced players. As well as this I have studied teaching techniques as part of my degree. I have also had experience in a language school working with teenage students visiting the UK to improve their English. This role required me to oversee groups of 10-20 students, plan their activities daily, develop a friendly yet authoritative rapport with them (which required excellent communication given their level of English). With a breadth of interests and skills that cross over sciences, arts and humanities, I am accustomed to approaching a range of problems using different conventions and styles of thinking. I aim to understand a student's own way of thinking and learning and use this to develop their weaker areas in ways to which they are most receptive. In doing so, I aim to develop their confidence in their own ability to tackle problems and produce work of a high standard in areas they might not initially feel so comfortable in.

- Hello, my name is João and I'm from Portugal. I began my musical studies by learning alto saxophone back when I was 12 years old. Since then I've experimented with various other instruments such as Piano, Guitar and Recorder and feel very comfortable teaching all of them. I've been teaching for the last 6 years and I have experience with students from 10 to 65 years old. I always try to tailor my lessons around the students, both their personality and musical taste, and I think that's very important factor whether I'm teaching young children, teenagers, or adults. Besides the standard music practice that goes on in a class, I often listen to music with my students, improvise and talk about the mechanics and theory the music language. You can expect a devoted teacher from me.

I am a University of Glasgow graduate with a BA in History. Following my graduation, I have been working as a private tutor, mostly with History and Politics/Economic students at A-level and undergraduate level. I have also tutored History and English at GCSE level. My lessons are tailored to the student's needs, and towards the exam, the focus of my approach is on exam practise and using past papers to understand assessment methods. In very simple terms, I find the process of helping rewarding; helping a student organise their revision, overcome anxiety or confusion and prepare for any eventualities that may occur in exams. I am inspired to teach history because I believe in the power of the subject to help us understand the present and to reflect on and learn about our own experiences. I cover the OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

I'm a guitar teacher, songwriter, producer, and composer based in London. With five years of guitar teaching experience, I’ve taught students from grade 1 to grade 4, both beginner and intermediate levels and with age ranging from five to 40. Being a versatile teacher, I focus on students’ individual strengths and interests while adapting my teaching methods to meet every student’s goals, whether he or she aims for a professional music career or just to play guitar as a hobby. I’m actively involved in London music scene and I’m eager to help students to develop their craft and find their unique style. If students are interested to learn about songwriting, I'm willing to share my passion and help to develop their songwriting skills. My aim is to listen to student’s needs and to build a strong practical and theoretical ground knowledge for students coming from different musical backgrounds. As a conservatory trained guitarist and singer, I read, write and transcribe music. Additionally, I have sound music theory skills. I've graduated from Helsinki Pop&Jazz Conservatory with electric guitar and songwriting as my major, and from Porvoo music school with classical piano (grade 6). Since 2014, I’ve released one EP and four singles for an indie-rock band Bye Mandu, co-written songs with Finnish popular artists like Sini Yasemin and Vesta as well as worked as a session songwriter at Volume Production Studios in Helsinki. My most recent work also includes a composition for musical theatre, film soundtracks and a debut album for my solo artist project. At the moment, I’m studying BA Songwriting at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London and teaching guitar students alongside my studies. I’m willing to teach anybody who wants to improve their guitar playing skills.

How much are guitar lessons in the UK ?

Guitar lessons vary in cost depending on how long the tutor has been teaching for and their qualifications. For newly qualified guitar teachers, you can expect to pay about £20 or £30 a lesson for beginners. If you want to learn advanced guitar with a highly experienced guitar teacher, a lesson might cost upwards of £40.

How many hours should I practice guitar for?

It's important to keep up with regular practice when learning the guitar. Practicing your new skills a few times a week will help you to remember new chords, strumming patterns and songs. If you're preparing for a concert, you might want to practice for a few hours a day. But if you're practicing in between lessons, a few hours a week will be fine.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

It can take years to fully 'perfect' your guitar playing and, even then, there are still always new skills and riffs to learn. As a complete beginner, you can pick up the most important chords and finger placements within a few months. With regular lessons from a guitar teacher, you'll gain confidence much faster than you would learning the guitar on your own.

Guitar lessons for students of all ages

Looking for a new guitar teacher?

Guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments for people of all ages. Learning guitar enables you to read music, play alongside others and accompany your singing. There's also a wide variety of guitar genres to choose from, including blues, classical, rock and folk. It's an instrument that suits all music tastes and abilities, as it's relatively easy to pick up.

With a guitar teacher from Tutor House, you can expect to see your playing improve quickly with regular lessons and guidance from an experienced guitar player. There's no wrong age to learn a musical instrument; picking up a new skill is enjoyable whether you're 14 or 54.

Some students learn to play guitar as part of a Music qualification, such as a GCSE or A Level, and require a tutor to ensure they improve their proficiency and pass their exams. Others might be taking Grade exams outside of school and need a tutor to help with this. And other students might simply want to learn guitar for their own pleasure!

We can match you with a fantastic guitar teacher, whatever your learning goals and requirements are!
