Hi! I'm Collette and I've been teaching ever since the age of 16, when I began teaching music lessons to local children, during my A levels, as my school music teacher recommended me to them. I think what my pupils and students enjoy most about my lessons is how much they are treated as individuals; I tailor my teaching to suit the personality and strengths of the learner. I believe everyone has different strengths - my job is to find out what these are, and use them to build the learner's confidence and enthusiasm for whatever they are trying to achieve. Parents repeatedly report that their child's general wellbeing and confidence is hugely benefitted by my approach to their lessons. I achieved all grades up to and including Grade 8 Distinction piano then ABRSM Advanced Certificate piano, plus Grade 8 Merit classical guitar (and many Distinctions in previous grades) as a child. After school, I studied in London, graduating from King's College, London with a BMus (Hons) Music Degree (with piano lessons at Royal Academy of Music, London) and then a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education teaching qualification) from the Institute of Education, London (part of University College London). I've taught in a wide variety of capacities to children and adults, throughout my career, both face-to-face and, over the last few years, online, including: mainstream primary, nursery and pre school teaching; specialist music classroom teaching; peripatetic music lessons; home-based music lessons (piano, classical guitar, theory, beginner singing) and school tutoring; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teaching to homestay and online students. Hello! I am an English Teacher, having taught English Literature and Language to a wide range of students from years 7 to 11. I have recently graduated from the Teach First programme with distinction, which has a mission of ending educational inequality in the UK by training great teachers and putting them where they're most needed. I taught for two years in a secondary school in Yorkshire. I have also taught at an international school in Spain, where I got on so well with the students that I ended up tutoring some parents in speaking Engilsh as well! My name's Harry, I'm a second year music student studying at Goldsmiths University of London and I'm loving it. I started helping my friend learn the guitar 6 years ago, which sparked my passion for tutoring music / guitar. Following that, I instructed at three colleges in Dubai as a freelancer. I ended up specializing in Business English, particularly in the areas of presentation skills and writing. I studied the IELTS exam and became the prime instructor for this at another college in Dubai. The classes were huge, but a lot of fun! Once a week the class was divided into a smaller Academic group, which I also planned lessons for and taught. These students were predominantly medical professionals looking to work for the NHS in the UK. Since returning to London from Dubai in 2016, I have been teaching as a freelancer in London colleges as well as privately. Having worked in the advertising industry for almost twenty years, I feel this gives me a natural edge in the education field because of my ability to effectively communicate difficult ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging and above all, memorable way. My approach is very student – centered as a result. How often should I practice guitar?

Most new guitar students will have lessons once a week or once a fortnight and it's really important to practice in between. To progress and learn guitar quickly, you want to be practicing a few times a week. Whether your teacher has just taught you a new chord progression or asked you to work on your strumming techniques, it's important to practice these skills right after the lesson so that you retain the new information.

What age is too late to play guitar?

You can start learning the guitar at any age. Guitar is a universally loved instrument and you can learn whether you're 11, 42 or 75. Whether you want to progress to being an advanced player or you want to be able to play your favourite song on guitar, picking up a new instrument is a great way to express yourself at any age.

How much are guitar lessons?
