I am a graduate from Imperial College London and Westminster School with a degree in Mechanical Engineering MEng and currently undertaking research at Imperial College London in the fields of green hydrogen and thermofluids. In my spare time I play basketball and I also participate in a number of musical societies. Instruments that I play include cello, piano, guitar, and singing. I have been tutoring for six years and find the process of improving a student’s understanding very rewarding. Over this period I have helped approximately fourty students gain entry to higher education, that are currently studying STEM subjects at top universties such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, UCL and many more. The vast majority have obtained As and A*s at A-Level. I also tutor several degree level students, five of which have just been awarded First Class and Upper Second Class honours in their respective subjects. I tutor at all stages from primary to degree level and focus on a wholesome learning experience. I always invite my students to ask questions and attempt problems by themselves, before explaining a solution, and subsequently work through similar problems with them step by step until they have grasped the content. The main emphasis in my lessons is to develop sound conceptual understanding, followed by fluency in answering practise questions, thus targeting excellent performance in exams. Looking forward to meeting you!

Hi! I'm Collette and I've been teaching ever since the age of 16, when I began teaching music lessons to local children, during my A levels, as my school music teacher recommended me to them. I think what my pupils and students enjoy most about my lessons is how much they are treated as individuals; I tailor my teaching to suit the personality and strengths of the learner. I believe everyone has different strengths - my job is to find out what these are, and use them to build the learner's confidence and enthusiasm for whatever they are trying to achieve. Parents repeatedly report that their child's general wellbeing and confidence is hugely benefitted by my approach to their lessons. I achieved all grades up to and including Grade 8 Distinction piano then ABRSM Advanced Certificate piano, plus Grade 8 Merit classical guitar (and many Distinctions in previous grades) as a child. After school, I studied in London, graduating from King's College, London with a BMus (Hons) Music Degree (with piano lessons at Royal Academy of Music, London) and then a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education teaching qualification) from the Institute of Education, London (part of University College London). I've taught in a wide variety of capacities to children and adults, throughout my career, both face-to-face and, over the last few years, online, including: mainstream primary, nursery and pre school teaching; specialist music classroom teaching; peripatetic music lessons; home-based music lessons (piano, classical guitar, theory, beginner singing) and school tutoring; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teaching to homestay and online students. Please contact me if you would like further information. I am extremely adaptable in my one-to-one/small group teaching, and will always guide students in an encouraging and kind manner. As a mum to an 18 year old, I also know what parents and children need from their tutor. So, whether you are 4 or 94, I will be happy to help you achieve your potential. Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Hello! I am an English Teacher, having taught English Literature and Language to a wide range of students from years 7 to 11. I have recently graduated from the Teach First programme with distinction, which has a mission of ending educational inequality in the UK by training great teachers and putting them where they're most needed. I taught for two years in a secondary school in Yorkshire. I have also taught at an international school in Spain, where I got on so well with the students that I ended up tutoring some parents in speaking Engilsh as well! My most recent school uses the AQA English GCSE, so I am very familiar with this specification. However, I am confident in teaching the variety of skills needed to approach most specifications used in the UK. Just ask! On top of this hands-on teaching experience, I have also studied educational psychology. In 2020, I gradauted with a first from Bournemouth University with a degree in Psychology. In the final year of this degree, after my year of teaching in Spain, I chose to specialise in educational psychology. This gave me a great insight into how much of an impact you can have when you address each student's individual needs. Transferring this to my tutoring, I always make sure to tailor the sessions to each student. Every student is different, and therefore needs a unique approach to their learning goals. I love teaching in a classroom to a large group, and thrive on the the spontaneity of having so many people focused on the same idea or task. However, I have realised that there is just as much satisfaction in coaching a student 1 to 1. I often teach students who I wish I could teach by themselves to see what they could really achieve with my undivided attention. For this reason, I have turned to tutoring so that I can help people master a variety of English skills. I have already helped my online students to achieve and surpass their predicted grades set by their teachers at school! My intention for my lessons is to encourage independent mastery as soon as possible. I will provide support for you to practice the skills you're looking to improve but I recognise that the aim of tutoring is to improve to a point of not needing it as soon as possible! I follow the tried and tested method of good quality models, joint practice, then independent practice. Book in a chat and let's see what I can help you with!

Do you want the advantage of real world experience? Having worked in the creative world of advertising for 20 years since graduating from one of the world's renowned universities, I have been teaching students from over 10 different countries across the Middle East and the UK. I have successfully tutored young learners, adults and undergraduates, both privately and in colleges to improve, strive and succeed. After graduating from University of the Arts London with a BA (Hons) in Communication I went on to work as an Art Director and then later as a Creative Director in advertising where I managed, art directed and wrote advertising scripts for radio and TV and digital media. Along the way, I also started training clients for their marketing and design requirements. I worked in London for fifteen years and in 2008 went to Dubai as a Creative Director for a multinational advertising agency. In 2012 I got married and went traveling with his wife and started teaching English with Dubai as a base. That same year I got a post teaching the academic English course to undergraduates at the Dubai branch of Shiraz University, one of Iran’s most prestigious universities. This was an incredibly challenging job with large classes of terrifyingly bright young adults studying subjects as diverse as Engineering and Architecture to Finance and Chemistry!
A baptism by fire like no other. Following that, I instructed at three colleges in Dubai as a freelancer. I ended up specializing in Business English, particularly in the areas of presentation skills and writing. I studied the IELTS exam and became the prime instructor for this at another college in Dubai. The classes were huge, but a lot of fun! Once a week the class was divided into a smaller Academic group, which I also planned lessons for and taught. These students were predominantly medical professionals looking to work for the NHS in the UK. Since returning to London from Dubai in 2016, I have been teaching as a freelancer in London colleges as well as privately. Having worked in the advertising industry for almost twenty years, I feel this gives me a natural edge in the education field because of my ability to effectively communicate difficult ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging and above all, memorable way. My approach is very student – centered as a result. Online, The Red Ink is now an invaluable resource for English language students looking to take the IELTS exam as well as a forum for writing and general English language knowledge.

I have been teaching since 2000, of which 1 year as a supply teacher in Greater-London. I have a large collection of animations, 3D-visualization, AR and VR apps about all sorts of biological processes. As a classroom teacher, I always tried to activate the pupils by using alternative methods, rather than just talking in front of a powerpoint, however, sometimes this is necessary too. After a huge recalibration, I decided to become a full-time biology tutor, both in the UK and Belgium, exclusively online. This way, I get to spend a little more attention to my family and myself. I'm also completing a football coach course. In the past, I was a windsurf instructor at Camp Moosilauke in the US. I hold a degree in first aid as well.

My name's Harry, I'm a second year music student studying at Goldsmiths University of London and I'm loving it. I started helping my friend learn the guitar 6 years ago, which sparked my passion for tutoring music / guitar. After gaining more pupils over time I started to build an established following as a teacher in my area. I believe everyone's creative side flourishes at different times to others. I am happy to teach at which ever time suits the student, enabling them to gain more out of the lesson and let me more information sink in comfortably. I play the guitar, drums, bass and I sing (although my first instrument is Guitar) I achieved my grade 8 when I was 14, since then I've been teaching to people of all ages, from as young as 4 to as young as 64! I can teach any style, from acoustic, to jazz, to blues, to metal. I can also offer songwriting guidance, coach people how to perform, deal with issues faced with performing and nerves. I can also prepare my pupils to play live shows, and introduce them to a range of opportunities to play around London. I grouped together 3 students a few years ago, taught them a song and allowed them to perform it live in front of audience. I also offer guidance on Rockschool Grades up to any grade. I'm 20 years old, and have been playing music since I was 10, sharing my knowledge and experience is something I love to do. Moving to London has helped me gain more students and I'm loving it, seeing something "click" with a student is a moment I always remember. I play in bands of my own, along side being a member of another. I have played many shows around London, been on BBC Introducing Radio, Eagle Radio and appeared on TV for London Live on Sky 117 with Old Swing. Other than indulging in musical activities, I enjoy surfing, cooking and running.

I have taught for a number of years in a variety of styles and genres to all age ranges and abilities. After a number of years teaching privately and from a music shop, I started my own music tuition business which I have been running for over 10 years. In addition to teaching around the SW London area and beyond. I have also taught in an Independent Day School for over 5 years teaching simple and popular songs to children aged 4-11 which they then perform at the end of each term to an audience of parents, teachers and children. I also teach for a not-for-profit organisation which counts Bill Bailey and Sophie Ellis-Bextor amongst its patrons. I also perform occasional gigs as a jazz guitarist/vocalist and bassist. I have played many different styles and genres in various bands over the last 30 years and for a number of years I played in a touring band and have played in the UK, Serbia, USA, Canada, Costa Rica and France.

I have been playing the guitar for 14 years and tutoring for two. I love music, so my priority is to spark that enthusiasm in my students. Obviously the approach varies with each student, but generally speaking, working around a student's favourite song/artist is a great way to develop musical understanding, enthusiasm and creativity. I started tutoring adults during my final year of uni. Since graduating, I have gained more experience teaching children in the local area. I teach adult lessons for 45 minutes and kids for 30 minutes. I can confidently say that I'm very good at picking up on what each student's strengths are. I can then give you the tools to grow even better!

I am a University of Glasgow graduate with a BA in History. Following my graduation, I have been working as a private tutor, mostly with History and Politics/Economic students at A-level and undergraduate level. I have also tutored History and English at GCSE level. My lessons are tailored to the student's needs, and towards the exam, the focus of my approach is on exam practise and using past papers to understand assessment methods. In very simple terms, I find the process of helping rewarding; helping a student organise their revision, overcome anxiety or confusion and prepare for any eventualities that may occur in exams. I am inspired to teach history because I believe in the power of the subject to help us understand the present and to reflect on and learn about our own experiences. I cover the OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

How often should I practice guitar?

Most new guitar students will have lessons once a week or once a fortnight and it's really important to practice in between. To progress and learn guitar quickly, you want to be practicing a few times a week. Whether your teacher has just taught you a new chord progression or asked you to work on your strumming techniques, it's important to practice these skills right after the lesson so that you retain the new information.

What age is too late to play guitar?

You can start learning the guitar at any age. Guitar is a universally loved instrument and you can learn whether you're 11, 42 or 75. Whether you want to progress to being an advanced player or you want to be able to play your favourite song on guitar, picking up a new instrument is a great way to express yourself at any age.

How much are guitar lessons?

The cost of guitar lessons varies between tutors. It depends on the experience of your teacher, their years in the profession and sometimes on the number of lessons you book in. Guitar lessons can cost as little as £20 a lesson up to £60 a lesson for the most established teachers.
