I graduated university with two degrees in 2014, one a BA majoring in Drama and Japanese and a BEd (Secondary Education). I've been working as a supply teacher in London for 5 years working both short and long term contracts (having worked at more than 30 schools across the city). I'm currently working at an International School doing internal cover. I primarily teach English because of my love for books and Shakespeare! Other than English, drama and Japanese I also can teach KS3 Humanities if need be. As a teacher I am patient, understanding and strive to get the best out of my students no matter their age or ability level. Most of my long term contracts have involved me coming in to take on a normal teaching schedule and building students back up to where they should be. I'm flexible and think very well on my feet. When it comes to a students ability level, knowledge and work ethic I can say I've seen and experienced it all even in my 5 years of teaching. My lesson structure begins with a starter/question that usually gages where a students knowledge might already be for example; What makes a good play?. The body of the lesson is to work on the subject at a pace that I believe will work with the student (which obviously I adapt as time goes on) and make sure it has a level of interactivity for them to not only learn but hopefully enjoy! And the conclusion of the lesson would involve a reflection to see what they have learned and even asking what they would like to learn next time as it gives the student some control in what they're learning thus furthering their level of engagement. Finally a bit about myself... I'm from Australia moving here with one suitcase 5 years ago. I'm big into drama and public speaking, regularly performing at the Southwark Playhouse with multiple theatre companies - I've also started getting into short film work. I love writing, reading, music and travelling. I'm also a massive Rugby League fan being from Australia, I know it's the less popular rugby in the UK but that won't ever stop me from loving it. If you have any question about myself, what I can teach and how I teach it please just let me know! Melissa

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree in ‘Chinese with Japanese,’ and after being awarded an academic scholarship at Eton College, I was number 1 globally in the Pre-U (A level equivalent) Mandarin examinations. Since graduating, I have worked in education for 6 years as a qualified secondary school Mandarin and French teacher, private tutor, consultant and translator. I specialise in English, EAL (English as an Additional Language), modern languages (Chinese, Japanese and French), Oxbridge preparation, 13+ and 11+ school and scholarship entrance exams. I have well over 1000 hours’ tutoring experience with Year 4 to Year 13 (ages 8 to 18) and have successfully prepared students for entry to 40 of UK’s top schools and universities.
